I wish anyone knows what happened in Acts 2! Did Jesus not ask His disciples to tarry in Jerusalem untill power comes upon them so they can witness for Him? Was that not on the day of Pentecost that this occurred? Is that not where the name Pentecostal originated? So some people do not know that the original Church, the church of Jerusalem, Corinth, Thessalonica, Ephesus, etc, were PENTECOSTAL? Back to the Bible where the truth is found!
I grew up in a pentecostal church. Didn’t know it was a Pentecostal church until I was older. To me, it was just church. I’ve always been sceptical of people who speak in tongues and when people fall on the floor.
I was in Pentecosta but thought it was evangelical. Though sometimes people would speak in tongues it didn’t happen often. It was mostly wailing and moaning for an hour of prayer and shouting in agreement with the pastor.
First let me say I am a retired Minister I have been a minister for over 30 years. I am currently trying to get back into good health after suffering Guillain-Barre syndrome. I have what I would call spoken in tongues but it was more in a prayer attitude then as part of a service or gathering of people. I tend to believe that if a person in a gathering of people to worship speaks in tongues then as scripture says there should be someone to interpret the tongues. If there is no one to interpret the tongues then those that speak in tongues need to do it in private. I am a charismatic and that I believe in all the gifts of the Spirit and I believe that they should be employed in churches everywhere.

You mix law with grace and you put yourself back under the curse of the law to justify signs and wonders the even the antichrist will be performing. We live in the age of grace. Nothing physical brings forth spiritual life. The language of angels? Satan and his are angels. Separate what scripture is for you and what scripture is for the Jews. The truth is there but you have to research both sides of the subject whether you disagree or not.
No one should be against any spiritual gift ... It is not biblical to be cessationist or dispensationalist. It's true that there are plenty of people with fake gifts I don't have speaking in tongues personally but I get visions and they come true I hear God's voice out loud that's happened about 10 times in my life And God changes what I'm praying when I'm praying in English he might change it into a different English word and I know that's going to be prophetic because God changed what I was saying. Besides visions and hearing God's out loud voice I can also tell if spirits are angelic or demonic and where they are and see them visibly. So that's my life I'm not going around to some sort of charlatan Minister making people fall down I also don't speak in tongues but when people try to say that the spiritual gifts are closed and over that's extremely insulting to me in my relationship with God. In fact I can't even handle that like that is on another level and when one thing goes wrong in your life They are going to judge you harder than everyone else because you are the person that heard the out loud voice and that's not allowed and they are going to roast you and skewer you and it's going to be painful and basically they're making your relationship with God illegal instead you have to follow their Church which is really more of a Catholic teaching than a Baptist teaching but it's the Baptist to do that.
I was raised in a very stuffy Calvinist church. I always felt something was missing in my spiritual walk. Six years ago I visited a Pentecostal church and have never looked back. I have no judgement against other churches. We all worship God in our way. Speaking in tongues is a vital part of my spiritual experience. As long as you believe in the tenets of the Nicene Creed, you are my fellow Christian. I once mocked people speaking in tongues. Until it happened to me.
If you are born again, you are Christian. The Nicene Creed doesn't mean anything if a person who follows it is not born again as described by Jesus. While the Nicene Creed lays out essential Christian doctrine, it does not define whether or not a person is Christian. Only Jesus does that.

So, in reply, I pointed out that the deviation came from the Nicean council. If the belief of One God is a deviation, it's a deviation from false doctrine. Have some respect P R. We believe in the power of the Holy Ghost mentioned on every page of the New Testament. A better focus of Pentecostals and Charismatics should NOT surround speaking in tongues. But around these verses 1st Corinthians 2 1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. ... 4 For my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, *but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,* 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. In other words we believe that the Gospel should not be presented in mere SPEECH only but in MIRACULOUS signs that follow the lives of those who believe. And they do. And there is evidence of healings and casting out of demons all over RUclips following Charismatic Christians if your interested in looking into that. So I dont really see how a believer, who rightly believes in the whole cannon of scripture could be anything less then a continuationist. Theres no solid doctrinal case against the power of the Spirit with signs following believers. So why make such a contentious ruckus fighting against what is totally apparent in modern days. The power of God to heal and deliver is self evident in our times. Speaking in tongues is practically a side note at this point. Its mostly just the major hang up of our critics. And in my view its prohibiting them from getting a deeper experience of the Spirit of God in their lives. Do to their lack of faith in what God is capable of doing.

Hello Joshua, I'm really enjoying all your videos , and am blessed to have stumbled upon them. I hate to nitpick or correct people but one note that I have is this, about the Calvary Chapel. While they are in both Charismatic evangelical denominations, these churches were not started by Evangelical church members. Chuck Smith the founder of Calvary Chapel was an ordained minister of the Church of the Foursquare Gospel, who felt that the Pentecostal church was out of line in its preaching and practices he left to start his own church based on exegetical preaching, and orderly worship.
Hi Aron, Most Pentecostal churches can be considered a subset of Evangelical. Unless you are aware of something I am not, Chuck Smith did not deny any Evangelical essential doctrines. Foursquare is an Evangelical Pentecostal denomination.
Reading back over my transcript though, I see what you are saying. In this video I did make it sound like Calvary Chapel and Vineyard came out of non-charismatic churches, and you are right in that they did not. I wouldn't describe it as I did here if I made the video again. Thanks for pointing it out. I made this two years ago and I tend to forget what I said, and I have also learned more about Calvary Chapel and Vineyard since this video too.

@@ReadyToHarvest i have been attending calvary chapel for 4 years now and we are not charismatic much. at most hands raised during worship, I've also been to barnyard vineyard church and let me tell you that was quite far off from calvary. They were very much Pentecostal. Just wanted to state that calvary (at least the one i go to) is very middle of the road, not charismatic but not bland
These are good, informative videos and well researched. Fair observations made based on fact and not conjecture. I would be continuationist in my view of the sign gifts but reject charismania and wouldn't consider myself pentecostal/charismatic.
Thank you for being respectful in your presentation. Many other denominations make a false caricature of Pentecostals but we still believe in the full Gospel and earnestly desire to build the Kingdom on earth, we simply place a heavy emphasis on the work of the Holy Spirit, as it seems many other denominations are neglectful of His work.

Since a lot of people who are not Pentecostal find tongues as strange and different, they make us out to be only focused on tongues and the Holy Spirit. That's just not true. We focus on all three of the Trinity. It's just that we affirm speaking in tongues, other spiritual gifts, and the presence and active ministry of the Holy Spirit where many other Christians do not.
There seems to be different elements to the pentecostal church. Full gospel. Apostolic. Charismatic. I was born into and grew up in the full gospel faith. We did not dance jump around or do anything that is detrimental to the other 2. We sang hymns and choruses, offered praise and worship to God by word of mouth and raising our hands. We prayed. We took communion and we sat quietly and listened to the pastor preach the sermon. There were no antics, no carry on and we were not told that an essential part of believing was being able to speak in tongues. We believe what 1 Corinthians 14 says about speaking in tongues. Listen with your Spiritual ear. Seek with your Spiritual mind and your Spiritual heart and you will find the truth that will set you free! God bless you all.

I was baptized at the age of 16 at the first Foursquare church in Van Nuys Ca.(more commonly known as " the church on the way) I always uncomfortable when people spoke in tongues. I don't know why, but that is the way I felt.
I think a correction is needed beginning at :30. Concerning methodism and Wesleyan holiness. Methodism did not originate from Wesleyan holiness. It's the other way around. Wesleyan Holiness sprung out of Methodist Episcopal (M.E.) churches especially in the Midwest of America. During the transition out of the Methodist Episcopal Churches in the late 1800's there were actual Methodist churches called "Pentecostal Unions" that were non tongue speaking churches. Some of these never transition to tongue churches but remained within the non tongue speaking aspect of wesleyan-holiness that ultimately became things like Pilgrim Holiness/ Church of the Nazarene etc. The label Pentecostal actually started with Methodist churches and was essentially taken/adopted by tongue speaking groups after 1901. The label "Pentecostal" originated in America before tongues entered the scene.
I grew up in the Pilgrim Holiness (hand and hand with the Wesleyan Holiness movement) but my family became Assemblies of God (Pentecostal) when I was 14.
I was saved in a charismatic baptiCostal church ... And it turns out the part that I didn't like was the Baptist part I do not speak in tongues I get visions I have a voice from God that I get that is out loud I can hear it I'm praying for people to be healed from social security level permanent injuries including myself and also prayed people back to life. To me this was just normal however evidently there's some sort of fight between the charismatics which I'm a charismatic and the cessationist dispensationalists And boy I loathe them totally I cannot believe that they just reject the gifts of the Spirit now I don't speak in tongues but I have like almost every other gift.

Some people think that I could have a better relationship with God if I spoke in tongues even though God actually changes what I say in English while I'm speaking into words that I don't expect that are English words and then that comes to pass like that is a prophetic word and I know it's a prophetic word because God changed what I was saying while I was speaking I know that's going to be prophetic. The thing is I don't mind that if you think I can have a better relationship with God because I could speak in tongues even though I don't currently that doesn't bother me as much as the people that say the gifts that I do have are fake those people are just the oh my goodness I cannot stand that that is the worst.

The first few years of my life I went to Pentecostal churches and I never understood people speaking in tongues. I understand it now but my understanding is that it is a perfect prayer from the Holy Spirit within us praying a perfect prayer to God and that it is a gift given along with the Holy Spirit which was given to us when Jesus said it is finished. So everyone can speak in tongues assuming you have the faith to believe you are speaking a perfect prayer to God which nobody can understand or translate as it is a Holy language. My confusion now is , based on scripture, most of the time I see people speaking in tongues would then be wrongly used. Like during prayer for another person, which is one of the most common ways (and during worship which I agree with) when people would speak in tongues.

Pastor Chuck Smith was in a Pentecostal denomination. I believe it was the foursquare. He left the denomination and went to a church that was already named Calvary Chapel. There is where the Calvary chapel distinctives were developed. The primary sources for Calvary Chapel should start with Chuck Smith’s writings. Charisma versus charismania. Living Water. And Harvest. Etc. I saw your video in Calvary Chapel a while ago I’m sure you mentioned these
So it is not quite accurate to say that Calvary chapel grew out of an evangelical church. More accurately it was a formally Pentecostal denominational pastor left and founded an evangelical charismatic church and a movement grew out of that
When you are baptized for the forgiveness of your sins you are being baptized by the baptism the Holy Spirit announced through Peter (Acts 2:38). That is the real baptism of the Holy Spirit.
The main focus of those seeking salvation is to recieve the Holy Spirit. The main reason that pentecostals focus so much on speaking in " tongues" is because there are only three instances, in scripture, to where it is written that believers recieved the Holy Spirit and what happened the moment that they recieved, Acts ch.2,10, and ch.19. The first thing that happened was that they spoke in tongues. It is the only sign given in scripture confirming that the Holy Spirit has been recieved.
God is inside every human who treats humans and humanity with love respect and care! Never ever abandoning human. If otherwise they arent even animals.
Finally someone who speak objective 👏👏👏 Pentecostal is different from Charistmatic, in Chile most of the church is Pentecostal and reject most of charistmatic teachings and use to call them "modern churches" or "emotional churches"
It upsets me that Christians make such a big deal about this whole thing! The Believers are the church of God, we’re children of God; the Word of God is ONE; and since we’re still humans that mean we all not agree in everything or believe but that doesn’t mean we should divide ourselves; let us just Follow God, His Word and the Guidance of his Spirit.

I've been in three christian denominations and all interpret the same words written in the bible very differently. If the words in your holy book are truth everyone no matter the ethnicity, culture or nationality, everyone would believe the same and there would not be interpretations of the scriptures, but rather a unified belief based on that absolute truth. Another big split came when the Apostolic Oneness Jesus only movement gave birth to the United Pentecostal Churches their doctrine has a formula for baptism as part of salvation along with speaking in tongues also for a requirement of conversion .
I was raised Pentecostal but am looking into maybe non denominational. I've got a bad taste for pentecostals that I don't think I can get rid of. My husband is a non practicing catholic and I can't seem to see myself going with that religion. It's too different then what I was taught. Trying to find the balance.

I grew up Pentacostal and become confessional Lutheran. I'm fairly well informed about the errors of Pentacostal theology and why it may have left you feeling "icky" about it. I'd advise against going non-denominational as virtually all supposedly "non-denominational" churches are either Pentacostal in all but name or Baptist in all but name. Baptists have somewhat better theology than Pentacostals but you still won't get the full gospel from them. Catholics are better in some ways but worse in other ways. If you'd like I can direct you to resources about confessional Lutheranism and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, including how confessional Lutheranism differs from Pentacostalism.
Mark 16:17 "These Signs" = Tounges. Aso see Acts 2,8,10, and 19 "Have you recieved the holy ghost SINCE you believed." Tounges is reguarded as a "sign". The gift of tounges is seperate!
Is there any Pentacostal who isn't a shameless liar? "Have you received the holy ghost since you believed" refers to people who believed John the Baptist's teaching, not believing Jesus. Paul asked, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John's baptism.” And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in[b] the name of the Lord Jesus. Paul learned they were disciples of John, not Jesus, when they said they hadn't received the Holy Spirit. This verse contradicts Pentecostals by associating receiving the Holy Spirit with believing, and not with a later event.

I think this is a pretty good summary. It's refreshing to hear intelligent conversations about the Pentecostal/Charismatic/Full Gospel churches, doctrines and theologies, without having to listen to the lambasting, lampooning, and degrading meted out by the modern day "heresy hunting" so-called "discernment ministries".
What has always tripped me out was the celebration of Pentecost but not the Feast times leading up to Pentecost/Shavuot, which determines when Pentecost is celebrated! So frustrating.
I have never in my life hurt somebody explain the denominations with such integrity and non partial or somewhat discrimination on the ones he may or may not agree with I know nothing about your history and where you come from but I'm thankful to see somebody with such integrity I was raised in the gospel assembly movement the school of the prophets founded by William sodders in 1909 and have been studying the Bible to see where I fit in God's big plan not reading in studying the scriptures from the prism or perspective reading into it the way we were taught I find myself not liking being around dogmatic people but a studying people I have more questions than answers but I am thankful for God's grace and mercy in my life but I've also been wrong so many times I'm going to be wrong again I'm just sure of that if I'm not wrong already LOL
As a cessationist, I accept the possibility of someone having the legitimate gift of tongues today, but only in the same sense that I consider it possible for unicorns to be real or for dinasaurs to still be alive. And just as I'd need to see a unicorn to believe they do exist, I would need to see tongue-speaking in a way that aligns with how Paul said the gift was to be used to believe someone today has that gift. You will not see that Biblical use in Pentacostal or Charismatic churches.

It is also not a “wild ox”, Hebrew word for ox/cattle/bovine is either baqar/miqneh/behemah are what are frequently used for anything in the bovine family. The word unicorn comes from the Latin, ie Vulgate, and Old Latin(90-130 AD)means single horned beast. The Hebrew word is “re’em a large unruly, untrainable, powerful single horned beast. Rabbinical scribes refer to it as an aurochs or urus, a now extinct creature. The KJV translators were absolutely correct, and there is no problem with this term in proper context. As far as dinosaurs, this is a modern term, in antiquity all around the world what we see is an ancient term called “Dragon”! Once again the buying into the world’s philosophy? There are two “Dinosaurs/Dragons mentioned in Job, Bohemoth matches the description of a type of Sauropod 🦕, most likely a Brachiosaurus. Because “it is Chief in all its way, meaning Chief or largest of all land creatures”. Having a tail like a cedar tree! This is definitely not a hippopotamus or an elephant as some have suggested since they do not meet the description written in the text. Many people misunderstand the way things are translated into English, especially the KJV. Which is translated just fine, there are misunderstandings, but no errors! No one should be against any spiritual gift ... It is not biblical to be cessationist or dispensationalist. It's true that there are plenty of people with fake gifts I don't have speaking in tongues personally but I get visions and they come true I hear God's voice out loud that's happened about 10 times in my life And God changes what I'm praying when I'm praying in English he might change it into a different English word and I know that's going to be prophetic because God changed what I was saying. Besides visions and hearing God's out loud voice I can also tell if spirits are angelic or demonic and where they are and see them visibly. So that's my life I'm not going around to some sort of charlatan Minister making people fall down I also don't speak in tongues but when people try to say that the spiritual gifts are closed and over that's extremely insulting to me in my relationship with God. In fact I can't even handle that like that is on another level and when one thing goes wrong in your life They are going to judge you harder than everyone else because you are the person that heard the out loud voice and that's not allowed and they are going to roast you and skewer you and it's going to be painful and basically they're making your relationship with God illegal instead you have to follow their Church which is really more of a Catholic teaching than a Baptist teaching but it's the Baptist to do that.
It always confuses me why people get so crossed on the fact that pentecostals can be energetic during worship service and even call us hysterics with speaking in tounges. There is nothing biblically against the energetic part of worship and seems to get criticism from church tradition mostly. I know for a fact that god honors this worship from my own and others' personal divine experiences with instant healing and prophetic messages from a few. So please, if you see a pentecostal online, I would ask that you would stop critiquing their worship style and even shaming them and calling them manipulated by their pastures. Mark 16:17-18 Jesus said these signs "shall" follow those who "believe", they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover, they shall speak with new tongues and Corinthians also says forbid not to speak in tongues, the promise is unto us and to our children and to all who are a far off as many as our lord shall call! I say seek Jesus until he finds you, "you will know when he finds you".
Trinitarian water baptism is baptism of the Holy Spirit. The idea of a "baptism of the Holy Spirit" apart from regular baptism is unbiblical and leads many Christians to despair over their salvation when the spiritual gifts that their pastors promise they should get fail to materialize. Even in the Pentacostal/Charismatic churches that don't claim tongue praying is necessary for full sanctification (the Assemblies of God are pretty moderate on the matter from my experience), there is often still a lot of pressure on people to speak in tongues and those that don't are often made to feel as "lesser" in the church even if the church doesn't tell them they're not saved. This results in many people just faking it (and I would make the case that all Pentacostals claiming to be speaking in tongues are faking it.)
That...doesn't make sense. No where in the Bible does it state the water baptism is the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Just read Acts 10 where Peter preaches to Gentiles. Verse 44 says that they recieved the Holy Ghost as they heard the word, but if you continue reading in to verse 47, Peter admonishes them to be water baptized. Also, there is no such thing as a "Trinitarian baptism", nobody was baptized in Father, Son, Holy Ghost. People were only baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins.
Unbiased awesome..Let me add; If there is nothing after salvation, then all these people that were saved in Acts chapter 2 what was the purpose? Why did Paul devote couple of chapters in the Bible.? Why did he emphasize be filled with the Spirit?
Question(s) - see about 3:50 to 4:10 ish. Am I considered charismatic because “I believe in the Bible as God’s Word and therefore believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit exist” ? My previous independent evangelical church believed that. But we also believed some of those gifts are far less in use by God presently. We didn’t have people speaking in tongues at church or other gatherings. Well, maybe once at church. From a visitor. 😁 I am in a Calvary Chapel now. It’s identical as far as I can tell from my previous church. So maybe I don’t understand the concept of what makes someone charismatic. Break out the snakes and tongues (that’s a joke), and I’m likely looking for a new church. Edit- Ah - I’m a continuationist. But now I need to go back and look at the definition of charismatic. Its amazing to me as someone who was in the new age but later became saved by my saviour Jesus Christ who broke the bondage to divination, just how much the 'speaking in tongues' sounds like the new age 'light language' which new agers believe is actually a language of spirit guides and angels, but is actually demons. It was the first thing I noticed when I heard of 'speaking in tongues' as I was unknowingly going down the Pentecostal path when I first got saved. Its suprising how much the new age and the Pentecostal/charismatic movement are extremely similiar.
I was raised in a Pentecostal church as a child/teenager. I returned to church back in 2017 and got baptized in the name of the father, son and Holy Spirit . I never agreed with the speaking in tongues or laying of hands to receive the Holy Spirit but I was used to this since this was all I knew and saw. Recently, I left the church and joined one where no one in the congregation “speaks” in tongue 👅
That's sad to hear. First off, no one in the Bible got baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Instead, the were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins. Jesus Christ is the only name given unto men whereby we must be saved, according to Acts 4:12. Also, you say that you don't believe in the laying on off hands and speaking in tongues, but that's exactly what the apostles do in Acts. Acts 19:6 states.... "And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied." Don't let bad teaching hinder you doing what the Bible says, to worship God in spirit and truth.

I agree with you I see it as nonesense and false teachings seeing the speaking in unknown words rapidly I don’t see them as tongues honestly since the Bible said the apostles spoke in languages of the world not unknown and random words which is what happens in some if not all Pentecostal churches. Plus what’s worst than all is that they say if you have that then you are saved 100% while anyone could say those words just by saying anything randomly But the laying of hands happened it’s written in the Bible by the right hand too but the authority was given to the apostles only to lay hands then ordination to bishops etc. Not any priest or pastor of our lord.

Pentecostals are cool because they actually try to not look like the world and really truly love the Word. They abstain from things that other Christians are permissive on because there's actually something to lose. Also, speaking in tongues is not a central part to the faith, it's one of the manifestations that happen when you have a healthy prayer life and crucify yourself on the daily. Not everyone has the same experience but the Lord will give the tongues to those who ask. It's really a beautiful experience especially when there is someone to interpret them. You also gotta understand, these 'pentecostal' mega churches are not good representatives of them. They're typically low income, small to medium sized congregations where women never wear pants and there's a lot of missionary work involved for the men.
I've heard Pentecostals argue that God restored tongues in preparation of Christ's imminent return. With all their false dates and the years flowing by, it makes that argument, pulled out of their behinds, look increasingly Imbecilic.

Doesn't your love for your spouse create a new poem for you that he or she only fits in the framework of it. A word to the wise when you pray, do not quote the bible to the Lord, this is what I mean. Lord, you said, do you think he's an idiot? He knows his promises and he knows what he said, and he doesn't need a reminder, he hasn't forgotten. Those production prayers and songs you say and sing every week make the moving of God of non-effect in your church, he is not pleased. I had prayed for a woman that had gotten in a car accident and the Lord spoke to me when I was done praying. He said, let's suppose that was your wife you were praying for, would the prayer be different? I answered him, maybe. Okay, so let's pray again, this time put your heart in it. He said this to me over 20 years ago, if I pray for you, you're a family member, my family's life is not more important than your life. If your spouse is sick, I pray like it's my spouse. I have no partiality, when I pray, I don't quote the scriptures, he told me not to, and he said, I will answer the prayers that come out of your heart, not out of your understanding. Please don't ever give up, don't lose hope. And above all, do not rely on your understanding, your knowledge will do nothing in God. Your brain cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. I know a Pastor that I love dearly, and he thinks his brain is his mind. The mind of Christ, dwells in your midriff, I didn't make that up, he told me that. I have a plan here, why don't you ask God a question, I waited 6 years once for an answer, do you know what I learned, patience. We can only love God the right way, when Jesus Christ is in us, he is the love of God. And that new heart we get is his, and that new spirit we get is his. In the natural we are equal, I have a brain, you have a brain, I have arms and legs, you have arms and legs, but in the spirit realm we aren't equal, you have scriptures, I have Jesus, the author. You have the book; I have the author. Trust me beloved, without the author, you don't know what the book says, that's why you water baptize. He told the Jews, baptize in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, and he didn't mention you. You've taken that scripture and made it today, and it's not today. Do not look at him just as a savior. He still has wants and desires, and it's our job to satisfy that. I can tell when the Lord moves in me, that he's enjoying where he is, he's not grieved. After going to such Pentecostal prayers i lately realised this not helping me, i realised as a fellow human as pastor or priest they dont even attempt to help people who are in need of job, food, or money. people interpret the Bible to custom fit there needs like Pentecostal churches they interpret the scriptures that says the disciples began to speak in tounges they had never spoken before they don't explain the entire verse what the lord ment was they began speaking in other people's native language so they could spread the word of god 1 Corinthians 14: The gift of speaking in tongues is described as a spiritual gift that allows a baptized person to speak a foreign language they don't know. It's said to be a way to edify someone who does speak that language, and that the speaker is speaking to God, not people. 1 Corinthians 14:27 also suggests that speaking in tongues should be done in groups of two or three, with someone interpreting. This is why I don't attend any church but I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ
im 16 and a pentecostal holiness church goer (mainly bc i was born into it and know nothing else hahaha) but hardly anyone in my church, including me, speaks in tongues...so I'm left completely confused about, like, everything lol. plus, hardly anyone in my church ever talks about be baptized in the Holy Spirit so idrk
pentecostal and charismatic churches need to read 1st Corinthians capter 14 in regards to "intelligibility" in worship.....if it does not edify the whole church...with interpretation....you need to worship God in prayer by yourself in edification for yourself....
There is need to clarify baptism of the Holy Spirit and salvation. Assembly of God and Foursquare hold that salvation and the giving of the Holy Spirit occur in John 20:22 "And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit." This was salvation but it was not 'baptism of the Holy Spirit'. In Acts 2 and later we see the baptism of the Holy Spirit, either coming with tongues of fire, or later (Acts 8) by apostles laying on their hands. The point here is that salvation and baptism of the Holy Spirit are separate givings of the Holy Spirit. One can believe in Jesus and be baptised in water (receiving the Holy Spirit) yet not be baptised with the Holy Spirit. Acts 8 is an example of this where Simon (aka Sorcerer) believed in Jesus yet was not baptised in the Holy Spirit. What function does baptism in the Holy Spirit play? The function is to minister to the body of Christ, and build believers up.
Authentic tongue speaking during biblical times were Real languages not the gibberish uttered in Pentecostal churches. If you normally speak English and you speak in tongues you must speak in a language that you don't know such as German, French, Russian etc. The reason for miracles and speaking in tongues were to authenticate the Gospel. That was done 2,000 years ago. There is no need for it today. Pentecostals spread lies.
The correct terminology to use referring to the "Pentecostal" experience is being "Baptized in the Holy Spirit". Not Baptized with. I am on my smartphone right now but later when I am on my computer I will state the Scriptures to support this statement. I was raised as a kid in a mainline church and was Born Again as a high school sophomore in spite of and not because of the teaching of the actual Pastors of my home mainline church. I later became a Pastor in one of the traditional Pentecostal Denominations mentioned in this video. There is one point where I disagree with the guy who made this video is this. He claims Pentecostals speak in gibberish or a heavenly language. While this does happen the true definition of speaking in tongues is to speak in a language unknown to the speaker. When a group of Afghans got saved at an Evangelical Event in Afghanistan about ten or fifteen years ago, a group if Afghan men were saved and Baptized in the Holy Spirit on the same day. When those Afghan men began speaking in unknown tongues to them, members of the U S Army and Marine Corps who were present to "keep the peace" noticed that the unknown tongue spoken by these Afghan men turned out to be English.
Its only gibberish to those who cannot (or refuse to) understand. Remember in Acts, the only people who could understand the "unknown tongues" were the foreigners on pilgrimage. Those who discount tongues are the ones today who would say "these men are drunk"
Wrong I’ve heard it many times it’s gibberish now not once could I relate to any languages of the world. Everything is good until the dancing and that words comes into the scene when god made the apostles speak in tongues they spoke understandable known languages of the world to spread the word but those Pentecostals speak those gibberish words instead of speaking what the people know even though both are English speakers So obviously it’s a stunt by them. ( See 1 Cor 13:1 ) So, what sounds like gibberish to you, might be a language on earth you know nothing abot or a languiage of angels. During a revival in Afghanistan, many Afghan men got saved and filled with the Holy Spirit and God give them a language they had never learned, which turned out to be Englsih. I have been identified as speaking Hebrew, on one occation by a sceptic just like you. So, while you think it is gibberish, it isn't. Also, at no time in the Bible did the Apostles use tongues to evangelize groups where they didn't know the native language of a people group, with the exception of what happened on the Day of Pentecost itself. Pentecostals and Charismatics have the largest groups of missionaries on the foreign field, more than any other non Pentecostal or Charismatic group. I became a Pentecostal, age age 17. In the following passages John the Immerser (Baptist) tells us that Jesus is the One Who will Baptize with or in the Holy Spirit. Matthew 3:11 with Mark 1:8 with Luke 3:16 with John 1:33 in In all of these verses in the most literal translations, have footnotes to indicate the word "with" could also be translated, "in". The fact is that Baptism means to immerse into a fluid substance. So the correct translation of the above should be "in" and not "with". Acts 1:8 refers to this same event which was fulfilled in Acts 2:4. Therefore we should use the phrase, "Baptism in the Holy Spirit" to refer to the Pentecostal experience. The language is unknown to the speaker, and sometimes sounds like gibberish and sometimes are known languages. I have heard message in tongues in the Pentecostal Church I attended in college, which came out in German and was interpreted by another person, into English, yet neither of them knew German. The mother of one of the recently saved college students was visiting that morning and she told us that the message was not only in German, but with the accent of low German, spoken in her home town in Southern Germany. And she told us the Interpretation, was the exact translation into English. Needless to say that helped this German born Roman Catholic eventually get save. I have been identified, by a Cessationist Pastor, when I was praying out loud in tongues, when I though I was alone. I knew God had given me a different language that day, but that language was later identified as Hebrew by the Cessationist Pastor. Please note that in other videos, this speaker has identified himself as a Pastor Bible College or Baptist Seminary teacher/professor. Which means he is most likely a Cessationist. That said, he did a pretty good job of covering this topic, of which he is apparently not a part himself.
Baptists, and Pentecostals, are dishonest in redefining baptism to mean immersion. Oh, and if you're going to make up that John the Baptist was speaking of Pentecostal's "Baptism in the Holy Spirit" when he said Jesus would baptize with the holy spirit and fire, then don't forget to immerse yourself in fire. Actually, don't do this. As a Pentacostal, I'm afraid you might try it.
@@jamesreed5678 The Greek words BAPTO or BAPTIZO literally means "immerse". This word is transliterated into English not translated in most English Bibles. So your assertion is completely all wet, forgive the pun.
@@pastorart1974 Heb 6:2 and Heb 9:10 both use the same word. In 6:2, it refers to Christian baptism. In 9:10, it refers to sprinkling. You can't show from the Bible the word means immersion.

You do get the image of being buried when you are submerged in water. There are many in the Navy who have been BURIED AT SEA. Unlike you I am a Navy Vietnam Veteran, so I know bit more about people being buried at sea than you do. Ancient Greek Literature such as the Iliad and the Odyssey confirm the meaning of the Greek words in question.
@@pastorart1974 Your mind is made up. All you did was point to some verses saying "baptism in the holy spirit". That doesn't show your fiction (lie) that "baptism" means immersion. The Greek word for "in" in those verses in en, which is used numerous times where "immersion" doesn't work (most commonly en a location), and not once where "immersion" is required by the context. Hebrews 9:10 refers to the ritual cleansing of sprinkling in the Old Testament. And, of course, you just ignored that fact, which I pointed out, which contradicts your faction. Let's try again: Mark 7:4 refers to the Old Testament practice of sprinkling furniture, using the word baptizo. Baptizo dinning tables. It's not realistic to immerse tables. And, if you did immerse your table, you'd cause water damage. And, it's a reference to the Old Testament practice of sprinkling furniture (tradition of the Jews). So, sprinkling is a valid form of baptism. Deal with it. You can't show a single verse in all the Bible where baptism is shown to be immersion. BTW, Dispensationalists are not Christians.

Was that not on the day of Pentecost that this occurred? Is that not where the name Pentecostal originated? So some people do not know that the original Church, the church of Jerusalem, Corinth, Thessalonica, Ephesus, etc, were PENTECOSTAL? Back to the Bible where the truth is found!

I grew up in a pentecostal church. Didn’t know it was a Pentecostal church until I was older. To me, it was just church. I’ve always been sceptical of people who speak in tongues and when people fall on the floor.

I was in Pentecosta but thought it was evangelical. Though sometimes people would speak in tongues it didn’t happen often. It was mostly wailing and moaning for an hour of prayer and shouting in agreement with the pastor.
First let me say I am a retired Minister I have been a minister for over 30 years. I am currently trying to get back into good health after suffering Guillain-Barre syndrome. I have what I would call spoken in tongues but it was more in a prayer attitude then as part of a service or gathering of people. I tend to believe that if a person in a gathering of people to worship speaks in tongues then as scripture says there should be someone to interpret the tongues. If there is no one to interpret the tongues then those that speak in tongues need to do it in private. I am a charismatic and that I believe in all the gifts of the Spirit and I believe that they should be employed in churches everywhere.

I don't have speaking in tongues personally but I get visions and they come true I hear God's voice out loud that's happened about 10 times in my life
And God changes what I'm praying when I'm praying in English he might change it into a different English word and I know that's going to be prophetic because God changed what I was saying.
Besides visions and hearing God's out loud voice I can also tell if spirits are angelic or demonic and where they are and see them visibly.
So that's my life I'm not going around to some sort of charlatan Minister making people fall down I also don't speak in tongues but when people try to say that the spiritual gifts are closed and over that's extremely insulting to me in my relationship with God.
In fact I can't even handle that like that is on another level and when one thing goes wrong in your life
They are going to judge you harder than everyone else because you are the person that heard the out loud voice and that's not allowed and they are going to roast you and skewer you and it's going to be painful and basically they're making your relationship with God illegal instead you have to follow their Church which is really more of a Catholic teaching than a Baptist teaching but it's the Baptist to do that.

I was raised in a very stuffy Calvinist church. I always felt something was missing in my spiritual walk. Six years ago I visited a Pentecostal church and have never looked back. I have no judgement against other churches. We all worship God in our way. Speaking in tongues is a vital part of my spiritual experience. As long as you believe in the tenets of the Nicene Creed, you are my fellow Christian. I once mocked people speaking in tongues. Until it happened to me.

So, in reply, I pointed out that the deviation came from the Nicean council. If the belief of One God is a deviation, it's a deviation from false doctrine. A better focus of Pentecostals and Charismatics should NOT surround speaking in tongues. But around these verses
1st Corinthians 2
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. ... 4 For my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, *but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,* 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
In other words we believe that the Gospel should not be presented in mere SPEECH only but in MIRACULOUS signs that follow the lives of those who believe. And they do. And there is evidence of healings and casting out of demons all over RUclips following Charismatic Christians if your interested in looking into that.
So I dont really see how a believer, who rightly believes in the whole cannon of scripture could be anything less then a continuationist. Theres no solid doctrinal case against the power of the Spirit with signs following believers. So why make such a contentious ruckus fighting against what is totally apparent in modern days. The power of God to heal and deliver is self evident in our times.
Speaking in tongues is practically a side note at this point. Its mostly just the major hang up of our critics. And in my view its prohibiting them from getting a deeper experience of the Spirit of God in their lives. Do to their lack of faith in what God is capable of doing.

Hello Joshua, I'm really enjoying all your videos , and am blessed to have stumbled upon them. I hate to nitpick or correct people but one note that I have is this, about the Calvary Chapel. While they are in both Charismatic evangelical denominations, these churches were not started by Evangelical church members. Chuck Smith the founder of Calvary Chapel was an ordained minister of the Church of the Foursquare Gospel, who felt that the Pentecostal church was out of line in its preaching and practices he left to start his own church based on exegetical preaching, and orderly worship.
Hi Aron, Most Pentecostal churches can be considered a subset of Evangelical. Unless you are aware of something I am not, Chuck Smith did not deny any Evangelical essential doctrines. Foursquare is an Evangelical Pentecostal denomination.
Reading back over my transcript though, I see what you are saying. In this video I did make it sound like Calvary Chapel and Vineyard came out of non-charismatic churches, and you are right in that they did not. I wouldn't describe it as I did here if I made the video again. Thanks for pointing it out. I made this two years ago and I tend to forget what I said, and I have also learned more about Calvary Chapel and Vineyard since this video too.

@@ReadyToHarvest i have been attending calvary chapel for 4 years now and we are not charismatic much. at most hands raised during worship, I've also been to barnyard vineyard church and let me tell you that was quite far off from calvary. They were very much Pentecostal. Just wanted to state that calvary (at least the one i go to) is very middle of the road, not charismatic but not bland

Thank you for being respectful in your presentation. Many other denominations make a false caricature of Pentecostals but we still believe in the full Gospel and earnestly desire to build the Kingdom on earth, we simply place a heavy emphasis on the work of the Holy Spirit, as it seems many other denominations are neglectful of His work.

Since a lot of people who are not Pentecostal find tongues as strange and different, they make us out to be only focused on tongues and the Holy Spirit. That's just not true. We focus on all three of the Trinity. It's just that we affirm speaking in tongues, other spiritual gifts, and the presence and active ministry of the Holy Spirit where many other Christians do not.

There seems to be different elements to the pentecostal church. Full gospel. Apostolic. Charismatic. I was born into and grew up in the full gospel faith. We did not dance jump around or do anything that is detrimental to the other 2. We sang hymns and choruses, offered praise and worship to God by word of mouth and raising our hands. We prayed. We took communion and we sat quietly and listened to the pastor preach the sermon. There were no antics, no carry on and we were not told that an essential part of believing was being able to speak in tongues. We believe what 1 Corinthians 14 says about speaking in tongues. Listen with your Spiritual ear. Seek with your Spiritual mind and your Spiritual heart and you will find the truth that will set you free! God bless you all.
Keep your faith and stay away from such wrong teachings the extra dancing shouting and speaking without thinking etc may our lord help us and them to see his true way.

I was baptized at the age of 16 at the first Foursquare church in Van Nuys Ca.(more commonly known as " the church on the way) I always uncomfortable when people spoke in tongues. I don't know why, but that is the way I felt.

I think a correction is needed beginning at :30. Concerning methodism and Wesleyan holiness. Methodism did not originate from Wesleyan holiness. It's the other way around. Wesleyan Holiness sprung out of Methodist Episcopal (M.E.) churches especially in the Midwest of America. During the transition out of the Methodist Episcopal Churches in the late 1800's there were actual Methodist churches called "Pentecostal Unions" that were non tongue speaking churches. Some of these never transition to tongue churches but remained within the non tongue speaking aspect of wesleyan-holiness that ultimately became things like Pilgrim Holiness/ Church of the Nazarene etc. The label Pentecostal actually started with Methodist churches and was essentially taken/adopted by tongue speaking groups after 1901. The label "Pentecostal" originated in America before tongues entered the scene.
I grew up in the Pilgrim Holiness (hand and hand with the Wesleyan Holiness movement) but my family became Assemblies of God (Pentecostal) when I was 14.

I'm praying for people to be healed from social security level permanent injuries including myself and also prayed people back to life.
To me this was just normal however evidently there's some sort of fight between the charismatics which I'm a charismatic and the cessationist dispensationalists
And boy I loathe them totally I cannot believe that they just reject the gifts of the Spirit now I don't speak in tongues but I have like almost every other gift.

Some people think that I could have a better relationship with God if I spoke in tongues even though God actually changes what I say in English while I'm speaking into words that I don't expect that are English words and then that comes to pass like that is a prophetic word and I know it's a prophetic word because God changed what I was saying while I was speaking I know that's going to be prophetic.

The first few years of my life I went to Pentecostal churches and I never understood people speaking in tongues. I understand it now but my understanding is that it is a perfect prayer from the Holy Spirit within us praying a perfect prayer to God and that it is a gift given along with the Holy Spirit which was given to us when Jesus said it is finished. So everyone can speak in tongues assuming you have the faith to believe you are speaking a perfect prayer to God which nobody can understand or translate as it is a Holy language. My confusion now is , based on scripture, most of the time I see people speaking in tongues would then be wrongly used. Like during prayer for another person, which is one of the most common ways (and during worship which I agree with) when people would speak in tongues.
Just for me, in personal, I don't exactly control when I can speak in tounges. If it does happen, while praying over someone, then it just happens

Pastor Chuck Smith was in a Pentecostal denomination. I believe it was the foursquare. He left the denomination and went to a church that was already named Calvary Chapel. There is where the Calvary chapel distinctives were developed. The primary sources for Calvary Chapel should start with Chuck Smith’s writings. Charisma versus charismania. Living Water. And Harvest. So it is not quite accurate to say that Calvary chapel grew out of an evangelical church. More accurately it was a formally Pentecostal denominational pastor left and founded an evangelical charismatic church and a movement grew out of that
When the Holy Spirit baptises you , you will know the truth. Until then you will have the understanding of man kind.
When you are baptized for the forgiveness of your sins you are being baptized by the baptism the Holy Spirit announced through Peter (Acts 2:38). That is the real baptism of the Holy Spirit.
The main focus of those seeking salvation is to recieve the Holy Spirit.
The main reason that pentecostals focus so much on speaking in " tongues" is because there are only three instances, in scripture, to where it is written that believers recieved the Holy Spirit and what happened the moment that they recieved, Acts ch.2,10, and ch.19. The first thing that happened was that they spoke in tongues.
It is the only sign given in scripture confirming that the Holy Spirit has been recieved.

I've been in three christian denominations and all interpret the same words written in the bible very differently. If the words in your holy book are truth everyone no matter the ethnicity, culture or nationality, everyone would believe the same and there would not be interpretations of the scriptures, but rather a unified belief based on that absolute truth.

Another big split came when the Apostolic Oneness Jesus only movement gave birth to the United Pentecostal Churches their doctrine has a formula for baptism as part of salvation along with speaking in tongues also for a requirement of conversion .
I was raised Pentecostal but am looking into maybe non denominational. I've got a bad taste for pentecostals that I don't think I can get rid of. My husband is a non practicing catholic and I can't seem to see myself going with that religion. It's too different then what I was taught. Trying to find the balance.

I grew up Pentacostal and become confessional Lutheran. I'm fairly well informed about the errors of Pentacostal theology and why it may have left you feeling "icky" about it.
I'd advise against going non-denominational as virtually all supposedly "non-denominational" churches are either Pentacostal in all but name or Baptist in all but name. Baptists have somewhat better theology than Pentacostals but you still won't get the full gospel from them.
Catholics are better in some ways but worse in other ways.
If you'd like I can direct you to resources about confessional Lutheranism and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, including how confessional Lutheranism differs from Pentacostalism.

Mark 16:17 "These Signs" = Tounges. Aso see Acts 2,8,10, and 19 "Have you recieved the holy ghost SINCE you believed." Tounges is reguarded as a "sign". The gift of tounges is seperate!

Paul asked, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John's baptism.” And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in[b] the name of the Lord Jesus.
Paul learned they were disciples of John, not Jesus, when they said they hadn't received the Holy Spirit. This verse contradicts Pentecostals by associating receiving the Holy Spirit with believing, and not with a later event.

I think this is a pretty good summary. What has always tripped me out was the celebration of Pentecost but not the Feast times leading up to Pentecost/Shavuot, which determines when Pentecost is celebrated!

I have never in my life hurt somebody explain the denominations with such integrity and non partial or somewhat discrimination on the ones he may or may not agree with I know nothing about your history and where you come from but I'm thankful to see somebody with such integrity I was raised in the gospel assembly movement the school of the prophets founded by William sodders in 1909 and have been studying the Bible to see where I fit in God's big plan not reading in studying the scriptures from the prism or perspective reading into it the way we were taught I find myself not liking being around dogmatic people but a studying people I have more questions than answers but I am thankful for God's grace and mercy in my life but I've also been wrong so many times I'm going to be wrong again I'm just sure of that if I'm not wrong already LOL

As a cessationist, I accept the possibility of someone having the legitimate gift of tongues today, but only in the same sense that I consider it possible for unicorns to be real or for dinasaurs to still be alive.
And just as I'd need to see a unicorn to believe they do exist, I would need to see tongue-speaking in a way that aligns with how Paul said the gift was to be used to believe someone today has that gift. You will not see that Biblical use in Pentacostal or Charismatic churches.

I don't have speaking in tongues personally but I get visions and they come true I hear God's voice out loud that's happened about 10 times in my life
And God changes what I'm praying when I'm praying in English he might change it into a different English word and I know that's going to be prophetic because God changed what I was saying.
Besides visions and hearing God's out loud voice I can also tell if spirits are angelic or demonic and where they are and see them visibly.
So that's my life I'm not going around to some sort of charlatan Minister making people fall down I also don't speak in tongues but when people try to say that the spiritual gifts are closed and over that's extremely insulting to me in my relationship with God.

They are going to judge you harder than everyone else because you are the person that heard the out loud voice and that's not allowed and they are going to roast you and skewer you and it's going to be painful and basically they're making your relationship with God illegal instead you have to follow their Church which is really more of a Catholic teaching than a Baptist teaching but it's the Baptist to do that.

It always confuses me why people get so crossed on the fact that pentecostals can be energetic during worship service and even call us hysterics with speaking in tounges. There is nothing biblically against the energetic part of worship and seems to get criticism from church tradition mostly. I know for a fact that god honors this worship from my own and others' personal divine experiences with instant healing and prophetic messages from a few. So please, if you see a pentecostal online, I would ask that you would stop critiquing their worship style and even shaming them and calling them manipulated by their pastures. Trinitarian water baptism is baptism of the Holy Spirit. The idea of a "baptism of the Holy Spirit" apart from regular baptism is unbiblical and leads many Christians to despair over their salvation when the spiritual gifts that their pastors promise they should get fail to materialize.
Even in the Pentacostal/Charismatic churches that don't claim tongue praying is necessary for full sanctification (the Assemblies of God are pretty moderate on the matter from my experience), there is often still a lot of pressure on people to speak in tongues and those that don't are often made to feel as "lesser" in the church even if the church doesn't tell them they're not saved. This results in many people just faking it (and I would make the case that all Pentacostals claiming to be speaking in tongues are faking it.)
That...doesn't make sense. No where in the Bible does it state the water baptism is the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Just read Acts 10 where Peter preaches to Gentiles. Verse 44 says that they recieved the Holy Ghost as they heard the word, but if you continue reading in to verse 47, Peter admonishes them to be water baptized. Also, there is no such thing as a "Trinitarian baptism", nobody was baptized in Father, Son, Holy Ghost. People were only baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins.

My previous independent evangelical church believed that. But we also believed some of those gifts are far less in use by God presently. We didn’t have people speaking in tongues at church or other gatherings. Well, maybe once at church. From a visitor. 😁
I am in a Calvary Chapel now. It’s identical as far as I can tell from my previous church.
So maybe I don’t understand the concept of what makes someone charismatic.

Its amazing to me as someone who was in the new age but later became saved by my saviour Jesus Christ who broke the bondage to divination, just how much the 'speaking in tongues' sounds like the new age 'light language' which new agers believe is actually a language of spirit guides and angels, but is actually demons. It was the first thing I noticed when I heard of 'speaking in tongues' as I was unknowingly going down the Pentecostal path when I first got saved. Its suprising how much the new age and the Pentecostal/charismatic movement are extremely similiar.
I was raised in a Pentecostal church as a child/teenager. I returned to church back in 2017 and got baptized in the name of the father, son and Holy Spirit . I never agreed with the speaking in tongues or laying of hands to receive the Holy Spirit but I was used to this since this was all I knew and saw. Recently, I left the church and joined one where no one in the congregation “speaks” in tongue 👅
That's sad to hear. First off, no one in the Bible got baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Instead, the were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins. Jesus Christ is the only name given unto men whereby we must be saved, according to Acts 4:12. Also, you say that you don't believe in the laying on off hands and speaking in tongues, but that's exactly what the apostles do in Acts. Acts 19:6 states....
"And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied."

I agree with you I see it as nonesense and false teachings seeing the speaking in unknown words rapidly I don’t see them as tongues honestly since the Bible said the apostles spoke in languages of the world not unknown and random words which is what happens in some if not all Pentecostal churches.
Plus what’s worst than all is that they say if you have that then you are saved 100% while anyone could say those words just by saying anything randomly But the laying of hands happened it’s written in the Bible by the right hand too but the authority was given to the apostles only to lay hands then ordination to bishops etc. Not any priest or pastor of our lord.

Most of the Messianic Jewish people I know are Pentecostal (Assembly of God).
Pentecostals are cool because they actually try to not look like the world and really truly love the Word. They abstain from things that other Christians are permissive on because there's actually something to lose. Also, speaking in tongues is not a central part to the faith, it's one of the manifestations that happen when you have a healthy prayer life and crucify yourself on the daily. Not everyone has the same experience but the Lord will give the tongues to those who ask. It's really a beautiful experience especially when there is someone to interpret them. You also gotta understand, these 'pentecostal' mega churches are not good representatives of them. They're typically low income, small to medium sized congregations where women never wear pants and there's a lot of missionary work involved for the men.

From out of the abundance of the hearth the mouth speaks, or sings. I was at a church online a few minutes ago, and they're singing the scriptures out of the Old and the New Testament. That means they're worshipping with their brain. Do me a favor church world, put the bible down, put the scriptures down and sing what's in your heart. Doesn't your love for your spouse create a new poem for you that he or she only fits in the framework of it. A word to the wise when you pray, do not quote the bible to the Lord, this is what I mean. Lord, you said, do you think he's an idiot? He knows his promises and he knows what he said, and he doesn't need a reminder, he hasn't forgotten. Those production prayers and songs you say and sing every week make the moving of God of non-effect in your church, he is not pleased. I had prayed for a woman that had gotten in a car accident and the Lord spoke to me when I was done praying. He said, let's suppose that was your wife you were praying for, would the prayer be different? I answered him, maybe. Okay, so let's pray again, this time put your heart in it. He said this to me over 20 years ago, if I pray for you, you're a family member, my family's life is not more important than your life. If your spouse is sick, I pray like it's my spouse. I have no partiality, when I pray, I don't quote the scriptures, he told me not to, and he said, I will answer the prayers that come out of your heart, not out of your understanding. Please don't ever give up, don't lose hope. And above all, do not rely on your understanding, your knowledge will do nothing in God. Your brain cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. I know a Pastor that I love dearly, and he thinks his brain is his mind. The mind of Christ, dwells in your midriff, I didn't make that up, he told me that. I have a plan here, why don't you ask God a question, I waited 6 years once for an answer, do you know what I learned, patience. We can only love God the right way, when Jesus Christ is in us, he is the love of God. And that new heart we get is his, and that new spirit we get is his. In the natural we are equal, I have a brain, you have a brain, I have arms and legs, you have arms and legs, but in the spirit realm we aren't equal, you have scriptures, I have Jesus, the author. You have the book; I have the author. Trust me beloved, without the author, you don't know what the book says, that's why you water baptize. He told the Jews, baptize in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, and he didn't mention you. You've taken that scripture and made it today, and it's not today. John the Baptist said I use water, don't you. See, you're getting people to put their faith in the water, and they shouldn't be. And that a man might save them because you baptized them. 1 Corinthians 14: The gift of speaking in tongues is described as a spiritual gift that allows a baptized person to speak a foreign language they don't know. It's said to be a way to edify someone who does speak that language, and that the speaker is speaking to God, not people. 1 Corinthians 14:27 also suggests that speaking in tongues should be done in groups of two or three, with someone interpreting.
This is why I don't attend any church but I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ
im 16 and a pentecostal holiness church goer (mainly bc i was born into it and know nothing else hahaha) but hardly anyone in my church, including me, speaks in tongues...so I'm left completely confused about, like, everything lol. plus, hardly anyone in my church ever talks about be baptized in the Holy Spirit so idrk
pentecostal and charismatic churches need to read 1st Corinthians capter 14 in regards to "intelligibility" in worship.....if it does not edify the whole church...with interpretation....you need to worship God in prayer by yourself in edification for yourself....

There is need to clarify baptism of the Holy Spirit and salvation. Assembly of God and Foursquare hold that salvation and the giving of the Holy Spirit occur in John 20:22 "And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit." This was salvation but it was not 'baptism of the Holy Spirit'. In Acts 2 and later we see the baptism of the Holy Spirit, either coming with tongues of fire, or later (Acts 8) by apostles laying on their hands. The point here is that salvation and baptism of the Holy Spirit are separate givings of the Holy Spirit. One can believe in Jesus and be baptised in water (receiving the Holy Spirit) yet not be baptised with the Holy Spirit. Acts 8 is an example of this where Simon (aka Sorcerer) believed in Jesus yet was not baptised in the Holy Spirit. What function does baptism in the Holy Spirit play? The function is to minister to the body of Christ, and build believers up.
Authentic tongue speaking during biblical times were Real languages not the gibberish uttered in Pentecostal churches. If you normally speak English and you speak in tongues you must speak in a language that you don't know such as German, French, Russian etc. The reason for miracles and speaking in tongues were to authenticate the Gospel. That was done 2,000 years ago. There is no need for it today. Pentecostals spread lies.

I was raised as a kid in a mainline church and was Born Again as a high school sophomore in spite of and not because of the teaching of the actual Pastors of my home mainline church.
I later became a Pastor in one of the traditional Pentecostal Denominations mentioned in this video.
There is one point where I disagree with the guy who made this video is this. He claims Pentecostals speak in gibberish or a heavenly language. While this does happen the true definition of speaking in tongues is to speak in a language unknown to the speaker.
When a group of Afghans got saved at an Evangelical Event in Afghanistan about ten or fifteen years ago, a group if Afghan men were saved and Baptized in the Holy Spirit on the same day. When those Afghan men began speaking in unknown tongues to them, members of the U S Army and Marine Corps who were present to "keep the peace" noticed that the unknown tongue spoken by these Afghan men turned out to be English.
Its only gibberish to those who cannot (or refuse to) understand. Remember in Acts, the only people who could understand the "unknown tongues" were the foreigners on pilgrimage. Those who discount tongues are the ones today who would say "these men are drunk"

Also, at no time in the Bible did the Apostles use tongues to evangelize groups where they didn't know the native language of a people group, with the exception of what happened on the Day of Pentecost itself. Pentecostals and Charismatics have the largest groups of missionaries on the foreign field, more than any other non Pentecostal or Charismatic group. I became a Pentecostal, age age 17. The Pentecostal Movement is the most powerful movement of the Holy Spirit of all time.
Speaking in tongues is not essential.
In the following passages John the Immerser (Baptist) tells us that Jesus is the One Who will Baptize with or in the Holy Spirit.

In all of these verses in the most literal translations, have footnotes to indicate the word "with" could also be translated, "in".
The fact is that Baptism means to immerse into a fluid substance. So the correct translation of the above should be "in" and not "with".
Acts 1:8 refers to this same event which was fulfilled in Acts 2:4.
Therefore we should use the phrase, "Baptism in the Holy Spirit" to refer to the Pentecostal experience.
The language is unknown to the speaker, and sometimes sounds like gibberish and sometimes are known languages.
I have heard message in tongues in the Pentecostal Church I attended in college, which came out in German and was interpreted by another person, into English, yet neither of them knew German. The mother of one of the recently saved college students was visiting that morning and she told us that the message was not only in German, but with the accent of low German, spoken in her home town in Southern Germany. And she told us the Interpretation, was the exact translation into English. Needless to say that helped this German born Roman Catholic eventually get save.
I have been identified, by a Cessationist Pastor, when I was praying out loud in tongues, when I though I was alone. I knew God had given me a different language that day, but that language was later identified as Hebrew by the Cessationist Pastor.
Please note that in other videos, this speaker has identified himself as a Pastor Bible College or Baptist Seminary teacher/professor.
Which means he is most likely a Cessationist. That said, he did a pretty good job of covering this topic, of which he is apparently not a part himself.
Baptists, and Pentecostals, are dishonest in redefining baptism to mean immersion. Oh, and if you're going to make up that John the Baptist was speaking of Pentecostal's "Baptism in the Holy Spirit" when he said Jesus would baptize with the holy spirit and fire, then don't forget to immerse yourself in fire. Actually, don't do this. As a Pentacostal, I'm afraid you might try it.

The Greek word for "in" in those verses in en, which is used numerous times where "immersion" doesn't work (most commonly en a location), and not once where "immersion" is required by the context.
Hebrews 9:10 refers to the ritual cleansing of sprinkling in the Old Testament. And, of course, you just ignored that fact, which I pointed out, which contradicts your faction. Let's try again: Mark 7:4 refers to the Old Testament practice of sprinkling furniture, using the word baptizo. Baptizo dinning tables. It's not realistic to immerse tables. And, if you did immerse your table, you'd cause water damage. And, it's a reference to the Old Testament practice of sprinkling furniture (tradition of the Jews). So, sprinkling is a valid form of baptism. Deal with it.
You can't show a single verse in all the Bible where baptism is shown to be immersion. BTW, Dispensationalists are not Christians.
