Very nice reaction Britt. Remember this about Angelina. She never sings a song the same way twice. So they'll all be 1st time reactions. Quincy Jones asked Angelina to open for his 85th birthday in London in 2018 when she was 12 and she did and surprised everyone, for she wasn't on the list of singers. He had her with her family back stage with him and he asked her to sing a short song "Dream alttle dream for you" a capella. He said he hasn't seen this amount of talent in someone so young since Michael Jackson. You should react to it.

Whenever I encounter the young Angelina I am astounded by the pure, raw talent she was and is. In a video interview when she was 12 she explains that when she sings her mind goes into a different place where only music exists and she described that place as beautiful. You can see it in her eyes when she is focusing and just about to sing…her eyes fade and sometimes move back and forth almost as if she is in a dream. It is almost like she is a conduit to where a world of music exists on its own…. maybe Plato was right.
Her talent is beyond anything obtainable by training a child of that age. Angelina seems to have an innate grasp of timing, word emphasis, and phrasing that many senior singers strive to reach. It is a gift…. one that blazes so brightly that it can peal the paint off walls and melt your heart.

By 8 yo, Angelina was already a jazz "artist" with unique beautiful performances of such classic songs like Summertime, What a Difference a Day Makes, Fly Me To the Moon, At Last & many others, all with her own arrangements. In the dictionary under "child prodigy," there should be a picture of Angelina!

Yes her diction is good, and let's remember that this is her second (or third) language. Her grandmother (Mary Zamani) is Iranian - so Angelina speaks Farsi. She probably used it when she spoke with a homeless girl in the middle east and gave her shoes. Besides that, (people say) she speaks a little Japanese (her grandfather was Japanese) - she sang a cover of a Japanese song at a concert in Japan 11 years old "Like a river flow | 川の流れのように (Misora Hibari)" ruclips.net/video/VKBg4IeTMu0/видео.html (link to the original song ruclips.net/video/_JPKop-dYJ8/видео.html)

I love that you are discovering and experiencing her special voice and the lovely person she was and is. This was just months after her Norways Got Talent win. She just got a mouth full of her permanent teeth which she didn't have during the competition. You've got to see her at the beginning when she first was introduced to the international audience. She did four songs through the process. The first two were Billie Holiday songs, "Gloomy Sunday" was the first and captured everyone's attention. The second was "I'm a Fool To Want You" and was done with her competitors standing directly behind her on stage. She was the smallest one. She sang it a Capella in her third language, English, without a full set of teeth, and she killed it without an ounce of fear or self consciousness. Just did it perfectly and thanked the judges. I believe the first one got their attention but the second one sealed the deal. The last two songs were absolute icing on the cake. Each song more incredible than the last. All four are here. ruclips.net/video/O2bX15tYFVk/видео.html Good reaction. It's obvious you really appreciate her.

Granma Mery speaks Farsi and mom and Uncle Mike are fluent in Japanese having been raised there. Angelina has also taken French and German in school and of course has sung in Japanese and Spanish, as we all know. Thanks for another great reaction to & appreciation of another great performance by Angelina - this time at the age of 8. This was Angelina's debut in the US, shortly after winning Norway's Got Talent. This is definitely amazing for an 8 year old, but what's even more amazing are her 4 Norway Got Talent performances (Gloomy Sunday, I'm A Fool To Want You, Bang Bang & Summertime) - at age 7. Pretty amazing to see a 7 year year old have conversations with judges in Norwegian & then -when the songs start - singing in perfect English. Anyway would love to see your reactions to those. Since each is a fairly short talent show performance, there is at least one compilation video available (with subtitles) that includes all 4. Thank you. Notice how, when Rosie brings out the stuffed toys to her, Angelina hardly even glances at the toys. She embraces Rosie with a hug. But it's not just any embrace! You mentioned how you visualized the atmosphere of a jazz club, Britt. She appeared in the final episode of a Netflix series produced by Steve Van Zandt....formerly with Bruce Springsteen's band. Van Zandt plays the older character in the scene. It was recorded in 2014 within months of this performance on The View....still 8 years old. The scene is a party in a jazz club and Angelina plays the club's entertainer and sings Billy Holiday's I'm A Fool To Want You. Mostly you just hear her in the background, but the camera cuts back to her a number of times. There's another video of her as part of that TV show's cast at some awards show (Golden Globe or something) walking the red carpet and getting interviewed by the press. Here's the link to her performance on the show. I'd say there are more important performances for you to review, but this might be something you check out on your own. Loving your reviews!!

But also consider that she had just flown in from Oslo for this appearance -- and was interviewing at 8 years old, in English, better than many (if not most) native-born American adults could. I suspect she could have done this interview in Swedish or Farsi and sounded equally articulate. She's a remarkable young lady, for sure.

And people forget that she is speaking and singing in English, her third language. This is her arrangement, like the way she pronounces many words (stars and mars for example). Right on pitch and rhythm, and only falters just a little at the end when she unexpectedly runs out of air... Isn't it impressive how she can reduce the amplitude, still maintaining that signature vibrato, in making what becomes a comment at the end of a sentence? Yes, her vocals are self-taught from listening to the jazz greats of the 20th century.

one main thing to remember with Angelina, ENGLISH is her 3rd language, and i do believe she was still learning it at this time in life. she has always sung in english because the songs she liked and learn from back then were english recordings. ANgelinas 1st language is Norwegian and her other languages are persian, english and japanese, if i am not mistaken.

About her diction, let's also not forget that she is Norwegian-born, has a Swedish father, Iranian grandmother, Japanese grandfather, and English is her third language after Norwegian & Farsi! Yet, in other videos where she is singing in her school's music studio at the age of SIX (first grade), she is not only singing in English, but she is reading the musical score sheets in English, while keeping perfect timing! I have to keep convincing myself that, yes, she really is an Earthling!

She certainly taught herself a lot about how she wants to sing, but I don't think you can say she hasn't received training. In Norway they offer extensive educational opportunities to the youngest students in all of the arts. She participated in a number of programs both through her school and beyond that. It was through those programs that we get to see and enjoy her preforming in professional level sound studios when she was as young as six.

@@stevenhambek846 Angelina attended the most prestigious school in Norway.
Jordan attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training and piano lessons. In addition to singing and playing the piano, she plays violin, guitar and flute, and also paints.
She had every conceivable advantage from a fabulous family with means to all things professional because they all recognized Angelina's gift.

Hi Britt I have a suggestion for a song you can react to " Angelina Jordan sings James Brown " [ I feel good ] this is from a concert in Norway its live and it is the full song from 2015 she is 9 years old and she rocks the stage. You want to click on the Rusty Shackelford version its the best one vocally, Rusty is a super fan who records many of AJ's performances.

Hi Britt - I enjoy your insights - please keep them coming. Here's a video of Angelina rehearsing "Cheek to Cheek" which illustrates the effort she puts in to correctly pronouncing words - in this case she mispronounced "gambler" as "glamber", but actually realized it and jotted the mistake down on her notes. She discusses the mispronunciation with the band leader later in the rehearsal. ruclips.net/video/UcpED1nPkXA/видео.html There are other examples of her dedication to preparing performances like this short clip of another rehearsal of her original song "Oslo" ( the youtube title is incorrect) ruclips.net/video/YZj8S40QeVY/видео.html

In fact, it wasn't a mispronunciation, it was a typo in the lyric sheet and Angelina noticed it immediately. Such a pro at age 11.
