I was going to hard-wire my FPV equipment TX cam etc directly to my qaud but I really like your camera-shoe philosophy! You're the 1st person that I have ever seen do this (self-contained thing) and it makes total sense!
Ahh another compliment, thats fantastic and thanks so much. You probably didnt miss the batteries as they are just tucked into the rear of the case under the panel, hidden by the wiring. I have fuses built into the switches, volt meters and lipo alarms on each battery. As for Amps, the video powered side runs about 4 Amps steady and the side running the fans lights charger and temp guage runs at 3 Amps and of course goes up if I'm charging or running something from the Usb Hub. 2 HR case runtime
Thanks Mike. I actually have the Fat-Shark Antennas on order from Hobbyking, 5.8G to match my Fpv Video Gear. I already run a 2s battery for my video RX, but I`m running a 3s on the quad for the Video TX and it also powers some leds as well. No heat issues on the TX unit, not as yet anyways. Thanks for the tips.
It's not a problem to power up the receiver without an antenna (although it won't work very well). It's the video transmitter that you must always have an antenna on when its powered - especially the higher output ones. Good effort and much better than mine!
In order to split your video signal you will need to use a video booster, for instance using a video recorder and a set of goggles, it's the same stream going to 2 feeds so to ensure good quality video a booster is recommended / needed.
it is the prettiest one i have seen, i like the under the panel wiring, did i miss the spot where the batteries go when it is working? those switches look great, and of course there are fuses under that panel or circuit breakers, how many amps do you draw? your system would be good for me to copy.
Whoa, great looking ground station! all I'd have to recommend is a bigger screen and maybe a directional antenna you can set up outside of the ground station.
Im in the process of building my own ground station and i wanted to ask why some of the components are included. Could you explain why you have the video booster and media center if you are simply monitoring the video feed from the plane? Im using a gopro so it is recording as it plays back to the ground station. Great job and thanks for sharing for all us guys that are in the process.
Best case I've seen. Can you PLEASE share the link for the blue switches you used. I have spent $50 online for blue switches (not carried by any local store) and they don't look blue when lit. They look green.... Anyway, again great job!
Wow thank you very much. Here`s the link to the same seller and some exact switches.@itm/12-12V-Blue-LED-Lighted-illuminated-CAR-BOAT-Switch-S-/400667645988?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d49a71824
Thank you, yes lots of work and lots of planning lol. I'm in for just above $400 total for the 2 FPV ground stations I built, so not too bad at all really. However i did get the Pelican Case used at a great savings, the 2 cpu fans were used and free, lots of aircraft grade wiring lol, so I had some deals along the way.
Nice work on the box. How much did it cost total to make. I have. Hexa but struggling to get it in the air. I am going to buy a idea-fly soon. Need to get flying and recording. Keep putting out videos man!
I have a pyle amp, but thats about it. Please tell me the set up as in souldering what, how a battery hook up,,,,by the way, awesome set up---_i have my drone but my ground stinks!!
Are the two fans used to keep the wiring or the LEDs cool ? Having no antenna on a receiver has never been a problem. TX definitely but not RX. I never thought of using all those lights on my system, mainly because I don't fly at night I guess.
Do you have any kind of schematic or plans of what you did and how you wired it? I'm about to build a ground station and yours looks like a good base to work from. BTW the no antenna rule is for TX so you don't burn up the output, not RX, not a problem for RX but of course you won't get anything with no antenna.
Hii, beautiful set up. Can you guide me on a pyle distribution amplifier set up?, would you know it? Are you familiar with it?, like to run fpv in the future
Hi, Thank you for this video, very useful for a beginner like me ... But I'm french, and my english is ... crap ... So I've not understood every thing : especially the explanation about the item situated between the video recorder and the video booster. I just see the brand : Neox .. what is it ? what use ? and where can I buy it ... Thank you so much again. Jean
Hi, thanks for the view. The centre unit is a all purpose Media Player, will play all types of formats of videos and also how i can spread the feed to any TV or recorder. The video booster om the top right is for video quality when splitting it. Audio can be delivered various ways and as many as possible but its not the same for a video feed, if you want to split the video feed you will need a booster, for example 1 wire to youre goggles and another to your ground station without a booster is too much. All parts came from eBay
YellowBonz69 Hi, thank for the answer. Now, I understand the trick. I've found on Ebay the SP-AVB14G and the DVR recorder, but no way to find this bloody media player Neox ...!! Can you, please, give me the ebay's store where you found it ? If other people are interested, the Ebay addresses : - DVR recorder :on "Top-bidding12" store - Video booster : on "FEELDO" store And, as a well known guy said : yes, we can ...!
Here is the eBay link to find the same player in white ,the MultiMedia Player called the NBOX, lol. www.ebay.ca/itm/NBOX-HDTV-HD-Media-TV-Player-RM-RMVB-DivX-HDD-SD-USB-HD-/151185975425?pt=Other_MP3_Players&hash=item233362e881
YellowBonz69 Yesss ! I have to change my windows ... I've read "NEOX" instead of "NBOX" !?!? Thanks for the link, but they don't want to send to France from Canada. Why ? I don't know ... So I found an other one, and ... I get it ! Now, I can build my own ground station, following your project. This will complete my Naza Dji 450, with gps, osd, and recently the bluetooth Datalink driven by iPad. and what about your Quadcopter ?
I work in the Alberta Oil Sands and live in the Niagara area. I am a communication System Technician. I work with GPS systems, cellular, wireless data communication/cameras and 2 way radios. My shift is 20 days on and 10 days off.
Station looks grest!, on a technical note, the first thing i'd get rid of is those terrible rubber ducky antennas...get yourself a 5.8ghz skew planer wheel for the homestation and a clover leaf for your quad. Also, of you run a 2s(7.4v) for the vtx, she won't get so hot but be aware, most cameras run between 5v and 12v...you may have to alternate the power source if you do this. I run a 6v rmrc 520tvl 5gram cam($40) right off the rx(empty channel)...so my vtx alone doesn't take that much power.
You know, this setup looks pretty sniifty there.. Umm, and yeah, I'm looking to at some point get a good dashcam, maybe even get some gear and do a radio show field appearance video.. Times've changed, and I'll be makin' some changes of my own as well... When my setup is up n running I just may look to post a video and show some footage.
I'm building one myself but I'm trying to find the strongest and lightest mounting board to mount everything to and that has me in a pause until I find it. What kind did you use.
audley burrell I used 3/8" Masonite board, since there isn't a bunch of weight onto it and it is supported on all sides from underneath. Easy to work with too
Thanks for watching, I've since got a second video TX and camera and have hard mounted it. Started to get some vibrations but it did make it easy to move it between vehicles.
Thanks for watching. I actually have my receiver velcrod in so it can come out, but I use a different antenna mounted on a pole 9' up. I'm not doing long range so no need for diversity as yet, thanks for comment.
audley burrell It's just Masonite... Home Depot or Rona or any hardware store should carry it. It's nothing special just a piece of 1/4" board, you can use anything
FYI receivers are not damaged from power up with no antenna,, transmitters on the other hand will almost always fry with no antenna,,and what devices are inside the box that creates so much heat that you need fans drawing power for no reason ?
Jason Duncan Hi, not sure why everyone is so hung up on the antenna plug in procedure because it IS good practice but whatever. I installed the fans cause its a black box which sit in the sun and I have lipo batteries sitting in the bottom of it, I like having the airflow go through-out the underside, it's a choice maybe not needed in some opinions but since I constructed it I wanted to do it overkill as I always do. But hey thanks for watching.
YellowBonz69 I agree about good practice ,, no antenna= no fpv! As a ham radio operator i Just figured I'd enlighten everybody on Tx vs Rx ,,,, But a disagree about the sun, I fly with the same screen w/ a homemade visor and if your setupingup in open sun you ain't flying shit from it ...
Jason Duncan I meant the black color attracts the heat sitting in the sun, thus cooling fans to create constant airflow. Agreed about the sun but I bought goggles now lol
You should set up an anti-theft system. On the screen it says "WARNING: Call technician to disarm countdown" with your number on it. Then it begins counting down for 1 minute with beeps that get louder with each second.
kennethpappas Ur gonna have to watch and take notes Bro, I didn't have any plans, just a picture in my head of what I wanted to do and have it look like. I list/talk about the parts I bought for the build in the video.
You got it backwards, the vTx is the one that you should never power up without an antenna. Actually, any Tx... But vTx gets very hot even with antenna, without it will burn up. VRx is ok to power without ant. but in your configuration I don't see any need to remove the antenna anyways. Very nice execution for a first try over all. Good work.
Look pretty good :) but from a technical viewpoint, if you want Range, you might want to pot the receiver on a pole and change the Antenna. If you want more Range / Freedom you might also want to get a diversity setup. The Receiver looks pretty "trapped" right now, the RF-Wafes are even blocked by the lid of your suitcase i guess..
SkyCaptureAerialimaging Easily gets 1km almost in any environment but if you get that patch antenna high up in the air you get a great video signal from 2km. Trial and error lol
That thing is Sick. You can take the antenna off the receiver and power it up. You should NOT take the antenna off the Transmitters and power it on. The power being sent will be reflected back and destroy it without an antenna.
You can power a receiver without an antenna. Receivers do need an antenna to lose RF energy. The only negative there is you'd receive a weaker signal obviously. Your trouble only will come if you power a TRANSMITTER without an antenna and really it takes a while for bad things to happen. If you accidentally power your Tx without an antenna don't worry unless it has been on for more than a few hours.

Great job! I like how the masonite board turned out. It looks very professional yet without the hassle of using sheet metal.
Dieter Preiser thank you, lots of sanding and thin coats made it turn out like black glass.
Dude those words are like music to my ears, awesome thank you. Maybe in early in retirement I can revisit it lol.
Awesome video and set up. Can you walk me through the wiring on the DVR and your media and incoming video? Please?. Need your help. Thanks a milliom
In order to split your video signal you will need to use a video booster, for instance using a video recorder and a set of goggles, it's the same stream going to 2 feeds so to ensure good quality video a booster is recommended / needed.
Very impressed with your FPV Station. Glad you found my video usefull. You had some clever ideas there that i may pinch for my V2 ;)
Thank you, around $400 total, however I used some recycled / used / gifted parts as well.
it is the prettiest one i have seen, i like the under the panel wiring, did i miss the spot where the batteries go when it is working? those switches look great, and of course there are fuses under that panel or circuit breakers, how many amps do you draw? your system would be good for me to copy.
Wow this is nice that's a lot of effort! Great job

Very nice. Obviously a LOT of work put in there. What does a rig like that cost?
How did you mount the monitor,,,beautiful set up....i want oneeeeee. Show me. Pleaseee. Thanks
Jos jo I used 4 bolts going through the top of the case into the monitor supports.
Nice work on the box. How much did it cost total to make. I have. Hexa but struggling to get it in the air. I am going to buy a idea-fly soon. Need to get flying and recording. Keep putting out videos man!
Looks awesome. I'm making one my self I hope at the end looks neat like yours.
Thanks for the video. Mask you where you get your electronic switches and cables? Especially the Coax. I'm trying to find a good source for parts.
Hey what are the parts u used? Could u make us a list with prices? Thanks!
Can you tell me how did you hook up your DVR in terms of wiring. Which one goes where and what not.....thanks a million....
Jos jo Video Receiver to Video Booster and then you can run the wiring to the Screen and the DVR
Thanks brother. I live in Ottawa but work in Nunavut. What is ur rotation? I do 3 weeks in and 3 weeks off
I have a pyle amp, but thats about it. Please tell me the set up as in souldering what, how a battery hook up,,,,by the way, awesome set up---_i have my drone but my ground stinks!!

Thanks for watching, sorry Bro it was all in my head so I just ran with it. Simplicity is the key.
Great video man!! I unfortunately could not make it cus my budget is not sufficient
Hii, beautiful set up. Can you guide me on a pyle distribution amplifier set up?, would you know it? Are you familiar with it?, like to run fpv in the future
Very nice, clean set up. Just quads or do you do some airplanes too?
Just MultiRotors my friend

Glad I could help. Good Luck and please keep me aprised of your progress. My Quad is AOK, just on the shelf for the winter is all.
What is that plastic you have all your switches mounted to and where did you source?
kennethpappas it's not plastic its Masonite board, I just sprayed painted it with a glossy finish. Any hardware store, Home Depot Carry it
I work in the Alberta Oil Sands and live in the Niagara area. I am a communication System Technician. I work with GPS systems, cellular, wireless data communication/cameras and 2 way radios. My shift is 20 days on and 10 days off.

Thank you
awesome setup, really looks good dude

Timothy Taylor Awesome, looking to seeing it
don't you get some loss out of that antenna extension on the patch?
Shane McDowell not that I have ever noticed

Any chance you have a build thread to go along with this?
No sorry, I had the ideas in my head and just ran with it.
i like to build that FPV case. looks great.

I just watched your video and you gave me an idea to make something just like that thanks bro keep videos coming
You should be proud Brother what a job man that is awesome looks like a bomb lol
You should set up an anti-theft system. On the screen it says "WARNING: Call technician to disarm countdown" with your number on it. Then it begins counting down for 1 minute with beeps that get louder with each second.
Barnibus Snaples awesome lol
Can you send me parts list and build plans. I really like this.
kennethpappas Ur gonna have to watch and take notes Bro, I didn't have any plans, just a picture in my head of what I wanted to do and have it look like. I list/talk about the parts I bought for the build in the video.
you did a great job brother..
Maybe I could afford it. How much would you charge to build me a setup like this one?
Id love to see you go through the airport with that lol
lol, somehow I dont think its gonna be a carry on item .
Good work.
Thats awesome, perfect comment dude ! Thank you so much, appreciate the view and the comment.
And where do yo get the tv
Sources most of my parts off of eBay
What cace did you use
Pelican case 1450
How did u power the nbox
aaron harnett Lipo batteries run everything and I also installed a 5v Stepdown for the items that require less input power.
Damn! it's so.....awesome
what do u mean by don't split the video signal?....I'm building a set up and don't know what that means?......nice rig btw
Look pretty good :)
but from a technical viewpoint, if you want Range, you might want to pot the receiver on a pole and change the Antenna. If you want more Range / Freedom you might also want to get a diversity setup.

Nice work!
SkyCaptureAerialimaging Easily gets 1km almost in any environment but if you get that patch antenna high up in the air you get a great video signal from 2km. Trial and error lol
Great job, well done. You must be proud of it?
Thank you, I am.
Nice job, well done !
What is the delay from the video booster?
Milliseconds
But how many?
WICKED, I love inspire. Feel free to ask any questions Bro
Good job!
Dude I'm serious! You should build this rig and market it. I'd buy one from you if I could afford it.
I can just imagine a bomb squad getting a hold of this thing and trying to defuse it. "CUT THE RED WIRE, JIM!" ----"THEY ARE ALL RED DAMMIT!"
Where did you buy the temp gauge?
I found it on eBay for around $13
Where did you source the case.
The Pelican Case I found used off the internet
That thing is Sick.
You can take the antenna off the receiver and power it up. You should NOT take the antenna off the Transmitters and power it on. The power being sent will be reflected back and destroy it without an antenna.
Thanks dude, appreciate it and good luck
You can power a receiver without an antenna. Receivers do need an antenna to lose RF energy. The only negative there is you'd receive a weaker signal obviously. Your trouble only will come if you power a TRANSMITTER without an antenna and really it takes a while for bad things to happen. If you accidentally power your Tx without an antenna don't worry unless it has been on for more than a few hours.
very nice! great work well done!
Nice setup.
looks amazing
HOLY SHIT !
Sweet setup
Arlo
Very impressive.
nice setup!
Thats awesome, thank you.
now your monitor looks cheap in that big case!
Time for the Foxtech 10
Thanks I'm working on it, cheers
nice work
Very nice!
All you need is a party switch that folds out speakers, woofer, strobe, lasers, smoke machine and strippers in a cage.
2019 still a nice ground station
Thanks dude, too funny.
Thank you much appreciated
In my opinion that "Blue Screen of Death" derisive phobia is an entirely an habitual misplaced carry over from early computers which could die in such a fashion leaving one up the creek. It has no real relevance to this application. Blue screen or static-irrelevant. Your creation is an inspiration.

cool!
Very nice
You must be reading my mind, I'm trying to find a relatively priced 15" LCD touch screen Shhh don't tell anybody
Hey man ya cant blame me for trying! hahah I still think you would making a killing if ya did...... :)
Thank you
well good start selling!
if only i had the time lol
