We are doing BJU with the DVDs this year for my son, who will be going into 3rd grade. I actually just found your original video about switching from TGATB, and was like I wonder if she's given an update, so I was so excited to see you had literally just uploaded this! This video gives me so much peace about this program, and I feel like the Lord walked us right to it after a different program fell through! Gained a new follower today!

I was told that BJU does offer tours throughout the week, where you are able to see the sets and everything that goes into making the videos.

Very helpful! Thank you! We tried Abeka, but sometimes it moved too fast, and the classroom setting distracted my son. We may try BJU. :) - Michelle

Yes that’s the main reason I leaned towards BJU-the setup. Hope you find something that works for your family.

This is helpful! We have done Abeka video for 8 years… but I just ordered BJU for one daughter; the class room style and speed of Abeka are too much. I’m excited to get my books this week. I also love their Homeschoop Hub!

It’s my first year homeschooling and I’m so overwhelmed with picking a curriculum. I need to make my decision in a few days….my son will be in kindergarten. I’m currently leaning towards BJU. Do you suggest the online format or textbook only format? Before I knew they had an online option I had anticipated I would teach him the curriculum. My son is very active like your son. Is it possible to teach some of the lessons and not use the online lesson if the child ends up not liking it?

It can be overwhelming as you’re starting out and learning everything.
For younger grades like preK, kinder I did the good and the beautiful. And I taught them. The lessons were simple yet effective. I wasn’t crazy about how they taught reading (teaching sounds) so I supplemented with the book teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons.
I am going to try BJU DVD option for my daughter going into kindergarten and see how it goes.
For kindergarten and even 1st grade they need a solid foundation. And it can be easier to teach them and guide them.
But at the same time the teachers at BJU are professionals in the field and do a great job at teaching. So I think if you sit alongside him and watch with him, or listen in and help him with the worksheets, it would be of great benefit.

The way the lessons are setup is they have the teacher teach the online portion and usually they work on worksheets during the lesson but usually after based on what they learned. So you could sit with him and then help with, guide him etc..

You may have already answered this and I'm sorry if you have. This will be my first time homeschooling my two kids. They're going into 2nd and 3rd grade. Did you do the DVDs or the online? I was about to get the textbooks before I found your video but now, I'm unsure. Also, at their school in 1st and 2nd, their curriculum was only Math and English. I was just going to get the complete 3rd grade and add 2nd grade Math and English so my daughter can catch up but can learn everything else together since everything else will be new for my son as well. I was wondering what your take is on this since you have two kids in different grades.

Hey. No problem. I'd love to answer as best I can. I did the DVD option since I was worried if we ever lost internet service, they wouldn't be able to access the materials. The DVDs do take up a lot of room though, unfortunately. But if a DVD isn't working, you reach out and they give you online access for those lessons.
I did the entire curriculum, textbooks + DVD. You will need the material (textbooks). But you can choose if you want to teach it yourself or if you want them to teach it (DVD option or online).
It's up to you if you want a full curriculum or just certain subjects. I had a friend that chose one or two subjects from BJU and did The Good and the Beautiful for Math and then something else for other subjects. You can most definitely mix and match. Or simplify it to your child.
I would do the entire curriculum because they sort of do Language Arts which consists of English, Spelling, Writing, and Reading. So I find all of them to be important. But it's totally up to you.

How long did it take for your 3rd grader to complete his school day?

    • @TashVitorsky
      @TashVitorsky  5 месяцев назад

He gets more easily distracted 😆 so I would say prbly 4 hours on average, give or take

We give them a few 15 min breaks, lunch break and a few bathroom breaks
It helps to give breaks imo
