O'Dimm is based on multiple slavic legends involving Wandering Devils. There's not just one devil in hell - it's a whole hierarchy, from Satan, Lucipher the almighty great arch-devil, and great devil lords responsible to him directly, all the way to crude cauldron-pushers, mischevious imps, and lost, crude, feral devils that haunt swamps and forests. The Wandering Devils are the "upper middle class", powerful, highly skilled operatives, agents of hell tasked with tempting powerful mortals and collecting their souls. They have a lot of liberty as to how they perform their work, but they are still bound by the codex of hell and respond to their lords, O'Dimm has quite enough power and skill to murder Eredin without trouble, but he has no authority to do so. He can operate within confines of his mission, serving its goals; the gifts to Geralt are trinkets minor enough he doesn't violate the rules - and I'm quite sure he'd kill Eredin without a blink of an eye if Geralt offered to trade his own soul for that specific service. But currently Eredin is one of the mighty and unrelated to O'Dimm's mission, so he's not allowed to get involved.

As interesting as that sounds, he is a villain. He murders an innocent man who offers Geralt a drink. He specifically tempts those downtrodden and desperate enough to make deals with him. And these deals often ruin other lives who weren't even invoved in the deal indirectly. He blinds a man just for learning his real name and tricks him into a circle for half a year by treathening death. He corrupts those he tempts and settles them into a fate worse than death. And he never gives Geralt a chance to refuse his quests despite manipulating him every step of the way as his pawn. Make no mistake. Master Mirror is a manipulative and malevolent being. Just because he does not subscribe to human morality and the laws of physics and its limitations as we know them doesn't make him any less of a villain.
I don't agree with you. As we were shown in both DLC (in "Blood and Wine" quest with wight), Gaunther strictly follows the agreements: both oral and written. He punished a woman who violated the tradition of a festival during which rich people should feed the poor and turned her into a wight. And this is the true nature of the Mirror Master. It reflects the nature of the people it deals with. We don't know what the drunk had to do with the O'Dimm or whether he was as "innocent" as he seems. However, we know that Shakeslock voluntarily agreed with bill on the establishment of the circle, where it's safe. Master Mirror never does anything that is not described in the contract or agreement. And never caused another person to fall. The Professor lost his sight because he read a lot in the dark. The drunkard became a drunkard by own choice. Olgierd also stupidly formulated his desires and had a very bad person before the deal with the "Devil" (engaged in robbery, easily sacrificed his brother for the sake of fulfilling the desire, cursed the Ophir Prince long before receiving the heart of stone). And he sends Geralt to his death three times. And if it wasn't for Gaunther and his desire to finally get what was due, Geralt would have died at the hands of the Ophir executioner. Or from the clutches of the inhabitants of the von Everek's mansion. Or from the swords of the guards of the Borsodi Auction House. You forget that O'Dimm was the same hostage of a contract with Olgierd, like Iris or, later, Geralt. How to live calmly and regularly, if there are debts that must be repaid? Von Everek wanted to deceive Master Mirror, so he came up with a meeting on the moon, and three absurd, almost impossible wishes. For which he was quite naturally punished. He got what he deserved. And this, as for me, is beyond the "good-evil" gradation. Please forgive me for my terrible illiteracy. I am very bad at English because it is not my native language. I understand you, but I formulate the idea poorly and in a confused way.
Gaunther O'Dimm is a being of both retribution and spite - He only became enthralled by Geralt and allowed his more personal side to flourish due to Geralt's ability to complete all the quests G.O.D set out of him. Besides, you do not know if that man he killed failed to pay a debt, or committed some vile crime, enough for someone to seek out his death. You need to think outside the box. I do not disagree with you, he IS an antagonist but he's not malevolent, manipulative? Yes. Yet he doesn't manipulate situations to stir in his way - Humans are just too stupid to outsmart him. But Geralt wasn't. And even when Geralt defeated him, Master Mirror resigned and left by his OWN contract. I'm sure he could had broken it and stayed. Greed is something he despises, and you can clearly see when Geralt's curiosity gets the best of him and asks G.O.D to reveal what he was. I'm sure it's not a huge deal, but Gaunther despises this sort of insolent behavior. I think G.O.D is MUCH more complex than people give credit for. But they were too enthralled on Olgierd's story to truly dig deep into what makes Master Mirror so fascinating.
I completely agree with you! Gaunter is an extremely complex entity, which is clearly not worth fitting into the framework of ordinary morality. That's what he's good at.

Wew, I'm a bit late to this one. But I just want to say that this piece is beautiful. It captures the essence of Gaunter O' Dimm on a broader scale. Those newly introduced dramatic elements overlapping with the original flute reflects how he manipulates the grand plots of the world behind the scenes, in contrast to the rather exclusive story of Hearts of Stone (in my interpretation anyways). You didn't just improve an already amazing piece, you redefined it. Keep up your work.
That wallpaper reminded me of Pennywise for some reason...seeing people floating, taking their souls, ushering into darkness. A dark and evil being incarnated!
When I let him take Olgierd it felt very unnerving to watch, as he slowly paced towards him. and then while he walked away whistling his own theme and juggling the skull i thought to myself how Gaunter truly is something worse than a devil and how I did not want to ever meet him again. Although his song is stuck in my head. I had my friend who doesn't know anything about the Witcher series watch the scene and they were also very disturbed about Gaunter but enjoyed the song.
This "man" is still shrouded in mystery. Who is he, and I say "is" because it's clear you can't kill him like you'd kill a mortal being. What's his purpose, why the contracts, how much powerful he truly is? Unless I missed something (totally possible), these questions haven't been properly answered yet. Probably never will lol
we know why the contracts and why those people due to that everyone that has been in debt to him has been some kind of evil person. the contracts is only a game for him and to keep those who has a contract with him in check. only the professor that was blind was not evil but he was a professor in dark magic and he was too close to know who master mirror is so he got blind and yeah you know what happened to him if you played that part of the hearts and stone dlc for The Witcher 3 the wild hunt. how powerful he is yeah if he can take someones soul, walk in the air, stop time, make a mark that even a powerful witch (Yennefer) can make so yeah he is pretty strong. but the master mirror does everything just to have fun.
As a Supernatural geek, when Geralt went to meet him at a crossroad at midnight, this imediallty came to mind lol supernatural.fandom.com/wiki/Ruler_of_the_Crossroads
I don’t know why, but this reminds me of music you’d hear in Dragon Quest while visiting the long abandoned ruins of a town, or a derelict castle. There’s an air of mystery surrounding the location, and the uneasy feeling that there are creatures lurking within, the kind that you don’t want to meet. Also I would love for this to be available on Spotify, but I suspect that’s quite unlikely, because copyright.
Those who have the Blood and Wine DLC, pay attention to the spoon quest. Even though he does not physically appears in Blood and Wine, his presence is still felt.
In my opinion Gaunther is the Devil or some kind of demon/devil. His initials spells G.O.D but he is master mirror the reflection of God which is good and light is evil and darkness. At least that’s how I interpreted it lol
Such an epic piece of music. Many thanks for uploading this - I spent so much time in Gwent's main menu just to listen to this song. I knew it was new... All i have tosay is WOW . This is pure GENIUS !
That's so awesome!Good job guys. That track is amazing
To było mocne w tym trailerze
O'Dim cośtam zasugerwał Uzurpatorowi i jeb!
Cała historia układa się w całość
Uwielbiam Gauntera O'Dima i muzykę z nim związaną
Holy shit that'S something I want to hear Apocalyptica playing.
Somehow i feel sadness in this song. What a work.
Scariest thing is the thing that doesnt look scary. Thats Gaunter to a T.
Oh shit... he is back.
gotta be the best version of his song
Probably never will lol
we know why the contracts and why those people due to that everyone that has been in debt to him has been some kind of evil person. the contracts is only a game for him and to keep those who has a contract with him in check. only the professor that was blind was not evil but he was a professor in dark magic and he was too close to know who master mirror is so he got blind and yeah you know what happened to him if you played that part of the hearts and stone dlc for The Witcher 3 the wild hunt. how powerful he is yeah if he can take someones soul, walk in the air, stop time, make a mark that even a powerful witch (Yennefer) can make so yeah he is pretty strong. but the master mirror does everything just to have fun.
we know enough tho, i think part of what makes him awesome is that sense of ¨Mystery¨
As a Supernatural geek, when Geralt went to meet him at a crossroad at midnight, this imediallty came to mind lol supernatural.fandom.com/wiki/Ruler_of_the_Crossroads
This is so fucking good, actually unreal.
How very near us stand the two vast gulfs of time, the past and the future, in which all things disappear.
by far the most terrifying character in the witcher universe
This is the song whenever Gaunter tryna take someone‘s soul dramatically lmao
Remember, people rarely do you a favor if they don't expect something in return...
i wanna see chills! chills everywhere!
Also I would love for this to be available on Spotify, but I suspect that’s quite unlikely, because copyright.
youtube been recommending this for months now
This is beautiful 😥
Psychiatrist: Gaunter is not real
Me randomly browsing on RUclips:
Love This. Always classic ver is better. Thank u Adamczyk .
Sound like Dark Souls boss fight music. Awesome
Holy G.O.D.
Wiedźmin grający na flecie. Najgroźniejszy z wiedźminów.
Gaunter Odimm made me realise that people don’t only fear what they don’t understand
But they also fear a Hard riddle
His appearance in a Crossroads has a strong implication about his True Nature.
GOD KEEP SPITTIN KING!!!
Did anyone know when u play gwent in android, there is violin ost when reaching climax in battle? If u guys know the name lemme know.
Those who have the Blood and Wine DLC, pay attention to the spoon quest. Even though he does not physically appears in Blood and Wine, his presence is still felt.
man I love your music
A masterpiece!
In my opinion Gaunther is the Devil or some kind of demon/devil. His initials spells G.O.D but he is master mirror the reflection of God which is good and light is evil and darkness. At least that’s how I interpreted it lol
Notice gaunter can just kill Eredin with a spoon. Then just casually walk away off the battlefield.
Such an epic piece of music. Many thanks for uploading this - I spent so much time in Gwent's main menu just to listen to this song. I knew it was new...
Is there a chance CDPR is going to update the Gwent soundtrack (GOG Game Library > Gwent > Downloadable Extras) so we get all the tracks added since launch in uncompressed quality?
Well, it’s not up to me to decide. But because you’re not the first one to raise this question, I think I need to push this a bit ;)
Skip to 1:02 , gosh, how powerful is that.
Slenderman's been real quiet since o'dimm showed up.
