Great points you make. There are real people who bust their butts to restore these movies. If we want them to keep doing it we need to support them and not talk crap. We may not like every movie they put out but at least they are putting things out and driving other boutiques to keep creating as well.
This community has been so good I really hope it doesn’t turn into people being whiny entitled babies like everyone else. You are right I appreciate what these boutiques are doing. I dont necessarily want or like all the movies that are redone but I can appreciate them for those that do. I love that physical media is making a come back!
"Matinee" and "Explorers" both have that fantastic Joe Dante celebration of the awkwardness, excitement, and longing and dreaming for better things of adolescence...I love both of them. I had a blast seeing "Matinee" theatrically when it was first released as I was, by that point, really into William Castle and older genre films.
I'm new to the whole boutique buying physical media. I have a big movie collection and I've always been a big movie fan but I didn't know this whole restoration thing existed and I'm so glad that you are giving us all this knowledge. Thank you so much I am a huge fan
I saw Matinee for the first time on TV about 2 years ago, and I just loved it. I looked it up and saw how it underperformed at the box office and honestly just left me suprised.
@LanceThigpen that's kinda my goal...everyone can easily read specs but I feel like explaining those specs and how they work and affect how you actually view the film in practical ways is of more use and often gets overlooked
Wow, very cool, thank you for giving some explanation on the Atmos conundrum. I guess what kind of bothers some of us by some of us I mean me, kind of lol, is certain movie studios that have the direct tracks to these movies such as Paramount or Warner Brothers don’t seem to want to make the effort to give us an upgrade and sound, but scream factory for me has always made an effort to do that. Halloween for a perfect example they did their own Atmos track separate from the one that Lionsgate did. I thought that was super super cool. A company like Errol video though it’s kind of odd every now and then, pitch black received an Atmos track For the UK version but not for the US, so I am looking everywhere to see if I can get that import but yeah to me that’s kind of odd. Again, thanks man. I appreciate videos like this good stuff. 8:39
People are always so negative, it really drives me crazy. I love ALL of the boutiques and the fact that they all bring something different to the table. Physical media sales may be down from what they used to but I feel we're living in the golden age of film collecting. Even if alot of the movies don't appeal to me, it's pretty effing cool to see such a diverse range of films getting the love they get from the boutiques!
100% agree!!! This is the best that film collecting has ever been! I am the same way too man, if the movies arent for me, I am still excited to see them come out! They me be someone else's favorite and that is cool....So I will never say a boutique sucks because they didnt put out exaclty what I was looking for on a given month LOL
@@AVAPopCulture Absolutely! I just picked up the blu ray of Death to Smoochy from Shout Factory. I saw this film in the theater with my gf, she hated I loved it. It flopped at the box office and widely considered a bad movie but I still love it. Would’ve loved a 4k but I was just amazed and super happy that Shout gave it a blu ray in 2024. I just enjoy looking forward to what comes next, every month we get all these announcements and releases, just a fun hobby to be part of
Interesting, this is the only movie that I liked with Ben Affleck, it had a reminiscence theme to John Carpenter the thing and it did it in a way that kept me watching, loved this movie and will purchase soon. Screen factory for me has always been a pretty good gamble, I was very, very pleased that they put the original Child play movies in Atmos, I mean wow just can’t get over how good the first two child’s plays sound so phenomenal, I wasn’t really a fan of any of the movies after part two. The only one I could say so far that they kind of dropped, the ball on was species, I thought it was kind of odd that my DTS laser disc track sounded way better than what they put on their 4K but yeah, maybe I just got a bad disc. I don’t know. I mean remember back in the day when sometimes you hear an MP3 track and you hear that kind of water gurgle on the background, on the vocal track in species for some reason it’s very very low Rez, but you win some you lose some, I still support scream factory 100, to putting out poltergeist too soon in Dolby Atmos and I am excited, it’s my favorite one. 19:42
Oh yeah, another one scream factory did, Candyman, the Atmos track on that was awesome and I’m saying was awesome and a very slow dramatic. Wow, kind of way.
nobody said you cannot critique them...but attacking them just because they didnt announce specific releases that you were looking for is ridiculous.... SF is broad my friend, they have a deal with walmart and other retailers...they put out plenty of non-horror via Shout and are clearly trying to expand that

it is such a good movie...honestly it may have been a little ahead of it's time...this 4k release blew me away
They are doing great work!
Toy story 3 was the first film to introduce the Dolby 7.1 surround sound format in 2010. Brave was the first film to introduce Dolby Atmos in 2012.
It great to hear the opinions of a filmmaker. I’ll still listen to the “specs”, but this information gives me more context.

Scream factory is not broad... It's mainly horror films. Just because they were the first doesn't mean we can't critique them.
