Edit: Just realized that I neglected to mention exactly what 3 chords are being played for the rhythm. They are C minor, Bb Major and Ab Major. Sorry about that.
Hey gang! Now if you know me and tutorials, I usually stick (for the most part) to doing tutorials for the tough to find and slightly obscure ones.
Not this one obviously. But it was fresh in my head so I thought that I would sit down and throw my hat in the ring to add a bit more content to my channel, by doing a tutorial for it.
Somewhat of an intermediate tutorial as I shied away from the note by note approach and just played each passage slowly and explained what needed to be explained.
Hope this helps you out.
Cheers, Kelly

good to hear a Canadian accent! I was living in Toronto until January, now im back in Australia. Miss my buds
Thanks mate, but just to clarify, we don't have accents, it's the Australians who have accents.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar oh for sure bud, sorry about it.
I like how detailed you are with the steps, thank you!
You're right, there's loads of tutorials for this song, this is one of the best though!
How kind! Thank you.
SUPER JOB
Thank You...❤❤❤
I only have a Les Paul here with me, looks like I have to skip this one I guess!
Don't , great lesson
No you don't a les paul is the best sounding guitar there is in my humble opinion you could even use an SG I just happened to be a Gibson guy that's all
Your playing the intro wrong. Starts at the B(2x) then to C#m (4x) then back to B(2X) then A(4X). Maybe you should try the Les Paul so Jimi can show you. lol.
The best tutorial on this song I’ve seen. Thanks for a great lesson.
And as I am a huge Hendrix fan I do have a Strat. So no danger of the ghost of Jimi Hendrix appearing.
Although maybe I should use my LP. A few things I’d like to ask Jimi 😂
This is a brilliant no nonsense fast track lesson/demo! Great playing and absolutely great teaching technique . Thank you so very much for this Kelly. It’s a 5 star lesson 🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠. 😉👌🕊
Wrong timing!!!
Yes
Great job mate. So many players sliding into Texas blues while playing "Hendrix", it's refreshing to hear someone hit straight on Hendrix blues and those rhythm licks during the vocal; I've not heard anyone hitting them like you do. Kudos.
For what it's worth, I've never really been able to describe Hendrix but after listening to you it has become more clear to my ear, I think the closest I can come is, "west coast pre-grunge mixed with delta blues, and you do it so very well. Thank you for your wonderful ear and interpretation. Amazing, wow!
27:30 great info your uncovering stuff would’ve taken a lot of trial and error thx man nice ending 😎 I thought that “woods” sounded cool👍
What a wonderful and patient lesson. And may I say highlighting Jimi’s extraordinary lyricism, subtlety and imagination, not to mention the very advanced production techniques he was deploying in 1968 including using phasing to make sounds on this track appear to come from behind you in the Stereo soundscape along with the careful use of reverb (years before 5.1) I don’t know that music has ever got much better than this really. As a kid back in 1968, it was spellbinding…
Usually when I’m trying to learn new songs, I get bored of the tutorial dude going on and on about things, but you’re very charismatic 👌
Thanks man! Appreciate that. I like to chatter sometimes, haha.
I play it on my SG and haven't seen the ghost of Hendrix yet. Lol.... I kinda wish I would. 😂
Merci ! Grande leçon....
Loved your cover, great lesson. Would love to know you tone settings as part of your lesson.
I play it on a Telecaster and it still pisses Jimmy off.
You're very polite and excellent with words to help others understand
Thank you for the awesome content!
Thanks man! It's my pleasure.
IT WAS DAVE MASON ON ACOUSTIC (I think) 😂
Thank you sir. You're cool guy. 😃
Absolutely famtastic Kelly- the subtlety and octave alternates for slide - plus your technique are such a joy and inspiration to all guitarists, Thank you for sharing these wonderful musical gems!!
Brian
What a way to die! Now where’s my Les Paul 😊
Excellent lesson, on a great tune thanks.
Thanks for this!
Pleasure mate!
I can't thank you enough for the effort you put into sharing this in detail. You play all the low bass runs I have wanted to learn for years to influence my songs. I just couldn't get it all with other tutorials. Thanks So Much Kelly ....
Great lesson !! Im a beginner transitioning to intermeidate guitar player but i dont know nothing about the pentatonic scale (and all the theoretical part you covered in this tutorial)....should i still attempt to learn this song or should i wait until i learn some of the music theory concepts before touching this song😅?.....Its just that I am listening to this song daily and have a tendency to play it on the guitar but I am not too confident if i should at the moment, not until i learn some theory concepts (that might save me time learning this song)
Yeah learn it but get on the scales as well buy a book not to hard to learn good luck
@@sterlingscoville8482 @sterlingscoville8482 thanks buddy! Do you have any book recommendations that you'd like to share😊?
Fantastic! So well explained and walked through at a nice pace. I'm not scared to take this one on anymore.😄🤟
Hi Kelly:
After learning your Watchtower lesson, which was great. I noticed how great you played Pride and Joy. Would love a lesson for that.
Just a thought.
Hi there Kelly! I’ve tried to leave a donation to the PayPal reference in your link but PayPal won’t recognise it. Perhaps you could post an updated Paypal link. You certainly deserve to be rewarded for your time, skill and effort put into making this video to benefit others. 🌠🕊👌
Subbed!

Fantastic job
If someone is playing Hendrix stuff then you probably know your way around the guitar a bit already. On other tutorials the teacher is showing how to play regular chords and stuff that you should already know and it takes up a lot of time. The way your showing us is so much better. I like you just slowing it down. So much easier.
Again, great job
Just stumbled across this in abit of a rush, looking forward to getting into the rest of this later great video!
Your slow, careful repetition of parts for novice Players is very admirable. But for experienced Players who can see and do songs on sight, you should start with a full run through and then break it down. Doing that will SKY ROCKET your subscriptions because the novice players will rewind to practise with the opening run through after they put the individual licks together. Cheers mate, subscribed, wishing you big success!!
Thanks Mark! To be 100 percent honest, I really don't enjoy breaking everything down fret by fret, note by note. I'd much prefer doing straight up walkthrough type tutorials at more of an intermediate to advanced level, but as I don't use or show scrolling tabs in my tutorials, I'm trying not to appeal to strictly more advanced players in everything I do. But believe me, I'd prefer to do these lessons without breaking them down so diligently.
Kelly, Thank you so much for sharing. Really like your approach 👏👏👏
too late. Does an EVH frankenstrat count? lol. Also played on a Les Paul.
Evidently Dylan now plays this much like Jimi. He owns it.
Great lesson! Ended up on the floor with a bruise on the side of my head after I finished the 4th solo with my Les Paul
awsome buddy awsome, kind regards mike in the uk.
Golden lesson! With a metronome it would become a diamond 💎
the best ever tutorial on utube thank you very much
That's a good one, the ghost of Jimi Hendrix.
Awesome! Been wanting to learn this one. Thanks!
Excellent, thank you
