Dear Emma - Of course I had no doubts that I would love this video with your dad, I've been looking forward to it since you posted your "which pattern" question. But I have to say that I was so happy and cheered by the whole conversation and exploration with you and your Dad. What a wonderful conversation for you to have together. What a joy to see you working and learning together. He seems like a wonderfully sweet and loving dad. Thank you both for being willing to share your quilting adventures with us all. xo
What a lovely comment! Thank you so much, I really appreciate that 🌸
Thank you for sharing. It’s wonderful that your Dad is interested in different hobbies. Looking forward to seeing his quilt.

Rustic cabins are just as beautiful as fancy ones. Great job.

Hi Emma, I really enjoyed watching your Father and yourself working together to make the log cabin mini quilt. Your Father is a gem to learn to do that with you. Sew Lovely. Looking forward to seeing the next video.

Great job Dad!! Keep up the good work! You are well on you’re way!
Emma-what precious memories y’all are creating together. Something to cherish forever for sure! Reminded me of my dad. (He passed right before the pandemic) he used to sew and embroider as well. It was a common thread that he, my mom and I could share together. I miss him everyday.
Oh I’m so sorry you lost your dad, sounds like you have some very special memories x
This video came up today and it’s been one year today since I lost my dad. This warmed my heart so much because this is something he would’ve enjoyed doing with me before dementia overcame him. What a wonderful memory for you both to have and to be able to look back on. And well done dad, you did a wonderful job ❤
Oh I am so so sorry for your loss. Sending you lots of love 🌸

Ahh Emma that is just beautiful that your dad enjoys all you do. How wonderful
Thank you Kelly! I had so much fun with him
I cannot believe how laid back your Dad was in front of the camera. A true natural. It was just so cute when he decided that he wanted the little cat to be a feature of his block and I think he made a really good job of his first block. Much better than when I first started out! Looking forward to seeing his ideas in the next “Dad” episode. X. Oh - and I loved his cross stitch too. X
Aww thanks so much Lesley, I had so much fun doing this with him 😊🌸

I just remembered that I has this to watch... Your dad did great for his first time! 🐈⬛
That is so beautiful that you and your dad can quilt together. You will treasure those memories!!!
Absolutely, thank you
Oh Emma, this brought back memories! My dad was born in 1917 and watched his mom and aunts quilt, knit and sew. Though he didnt do it himself he taught me how. He was great at seeing what I could do to make it better, just by remembering how his mom did things. My first quilt was at his suggestion (I was 16 and had lots of scraps from sewing clothes). Dad told me how his mom used old blankets and worn out clothes as batting during the depression. My dad was one of my best friends. Enjoy your dad and cherish these times with him. ❤ Loved this episode.
Oh what a lovely memory, thank you for sharing that with me 🤗
I think we can see where you get your creativity from. It's great to see your Dad is loving his crafting. 👏
😊 thank you, it’s funny how similar we are and this process really showed me that

I will do! Since the video was made there’s been no stopping him!
Hug your dad really tight. ❤❤
Hi Emma, your dad is lovely, my dad died 8 years ago, I miss him so much. He used to do a lot of cross stitch and he was a brilliant wood turner. It’s lovely that he wants to make a quilt ❤️❤️❤️
Oh I’m so sorry you lost your dad Jane, he sounds like a very talented man x
What a precious memory. And boy that's a good looking block. My first log cabin block looked like it went through a hurricane 😮 .
Oh thank you!
Awe how sweet to teach your dad quilting ❤ what a great bonding time.
It really is! I enjoyed this so much
He did a great job for first time. Keep it up.😊
How special to have a crafty dad! And he did better than he gives himself credit for - he used “fussy cutting” in his very first try lol! I hope to see his next block, and also his finished cross stitch. ❤
Thank you! I think he did really well. Lots more to come from him, he can’t stop making!
Lovely video, Emma. How nice to have your Dad join in on your quilting journey. I think he did a fabulous job for his first time! ❤😊

Yay for Dad!!!
Yay for not crowding him & just giving one instruction at a time!!!
Thank you!
Lovely to see your Dad trying new things Emma. I think his log cabin block was really well done and hopefully he enjoyed the process enough to make a small quilt of them. Such a fun video Emma that brightened my day. xx
Thank you! I’m so happy you enjoyed it

Glad you enjoyed it, thank you for watching Julie
What an absolute awesome video…….so so special to watch you and your Dad and for you to share it to us all ……thank you Emma 🌸🦋💕
Glad you enjoyed it
Love this. Well done. Your dad is on his way to quilting. It is fascinating to piece fabric and watch it develop.
Do I detect a hint of a Liverpool accent? Nice that your Dad is willing to have a go at quilting, my husband won’t touch anything that isn’t oily😂 well done Dad. My husband can’t understand the appeal of as he puts it “ cutting up a good piece of fabric to sew it back together again”😂❤
Haha, yes! My dad is from Liverpool. Thanks so much for watching
Hi Emma. How lovely that your dad and you share the same crafts, in what is probably thought of as predominantly female crafts.
I had an uncle and two brothers who all used a sewing machine and one brother used to use a knitting machine, also a male cousin in Australia in his 80s now and does lots of needlework, cross stitch etc. My parents are now deceased, but I'm sure mum told me years ago that my dad used to knit when I was very young. I'm in my very late 70s and still miss my dad so much 😥 especially while watching you both. I've always knitted, crocheted and sewed, but new to quilting as from last month. Love your video's and loved seeing you chat together 💞
Thank you for watching Sandra. So sorry for your losses 🌸
No longer have my dad but this is precious
So sorry to hear that
What a lovely gentle man your dad is. I think he's caught the quilting bug already what with his idea about pattern placement & "other ideas" for another quilt block. We'll be watching this space. xxxx
He absolutely has! Lots more to come from him, he’s amazed me with what he’s done since we made this video. Thanks for watching
What a lovely dad. I think he would find it easier using 21/2” strips rather than 1”. Well done finishing a block. Perfect as a coaster. ❤️🌺
True! I think we were trying to recreate the one we saw. He actually made it into a coaster after we finished the video, will show it soon
Perfect. 👏👏👏❤️🌺
Yes, the log cabin is a simple, fun, and interesting block for a beginner. I would suggest 2 inch strips or even 2.5 inch strips. The block comes together more quickly, less sewing, and the blocks can be bigger to make a whole quilt top with less sewing. What a fun project for you and your creative Dad. His imagination is working....❤
Yes that’s so true. I think we lost sight of that trying to recreate the one we saw but we got there in the end
Absolute joy to watch. Your whole approach to introducing him to quilting is brilliant. So engaging. Love his first block and with those tiny 1 inch strips! Well done both of you. Very much looking forward to the next episode. ❤️🇭🇲
Thank you ever so much Yvonne 🌸
How lovely….filled my heart with joy. Xx😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh Emma, the gears turn in your dad’s head! You’ve got him hooked on quilting, love it! Quilt-as-you-go might be a good match for him and would turn his little block into a hot pad or part of a placemat or table runner. Finishing things is motivating. What a nice reminder of beginner’s mind, a lovely video in every way.❤
Oh thank you! Yes that’s a good idea
I love this so much, your dad is gorgeous, how lucky you are to have him ❤❤
Thank you. I’m definitely very lucky
DELIGHTFUL!!!! What a priceless video!
Thank you Norma!
Fun fact: One thing you hinted at but really say was that there are whole cloth quilts, where the quilt top and the back are both single pieces of cloth not pieced. 💖🌞🌵😷
You're so lucky..how I miss my Daddy now...came out so cute..
I’m so sorry you are missing your dad
❤ Treasure the time together. Beautiful.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching
Aww I just loved this so much and your dad did so very well!! I love his block! Looks terrific! Can’t wait to see what he makes with it! ❤
Thank you!
Absolutely love this video
So nice to see your father do this
Glad you enjoyed it!
Can’t wait for part 2❤🎉 it’s a brilliant video. Absolutely love every bit of it
Thank you! I’m so happy you enjoyed it
Super video and Sir your block was great. Even though my Dad passed when I was ten I remember him teaching me to sew, how to work the thread into a start knot and finish with a secure loop, watching you both was so special, Thank you.
Aww thank you Alison, sounds like you have lovely memories of your dad x
He did sooooo well! Thanks for this video, very lovely x
Glad you enjoyed it! He’s a natural I think 😊
Hi Emma and Happy Easter.
It’s so refreshing to see you and your dad making a quilt block. ❤
Thank you Helen, it was a lot of fun. Happy Easter 🐣
Great video! Love watching your father with his first block. At the rate he’s learning I’m sure he’ll have his first quilt done soon!
Funny you should say that… watch this space!
What a sweet video. A great memory was made!
Thank you
Your dad did a great job!!
I think so too!
How nice to see you & your Dad sewing together! He did a great job! I was most impressed, to see him close up the blade, when he was done using the rotary cutter!! I loved his Log Cabin block!! What will be next??
All will be revealed soon! But I can tell you now he’s gone on to make a quilt all by himself pretty much!
What a really enjoyable video to watch. Thank you for sharing. I remember my very first quilt was a disappearing 9 patch design. I gifted it to my daughter and it is still going strong 9 years later :) T x
What a lovely memory, you never forget your first quilt
@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox Absolutely and I won't forget the story of the Christmas day I gifted it to my daughter. She was unwell on Christmas day and used my quilt to wrap up on the couch with. From that day forth it became known as the unwell quilt, you get priority to use it if you are unwell in her house lol So my gift comforts my family whenever they are sick. That is a good legacy for sure T x
lovely!
Aaaaawwwww how sweet . I haven't even tried a log cabin yet , so congrates . Keep up the good work . Take care .
Thanks 👍
THIS is such a nice video love how you and your dad connect you look like you dad this is such a good video loved it
Aww thank you!🤗
Nice to hear a man's perspective. He might enjoy the story of when I was first married my husband watched me cut out a quilt and said with a quizical look on his face "so you take big pieces of fabric, cut them into small ones and sew them back into big ones?" Yep, that's what I do, crazy isn't it?
Haha yes! I will tell him. Thanks for watching
Oh my gosh! So sweet! Thanks for sharing the video Emma.
You are so welcome!
Your dad is adorable, so gentle and kind, as was my father.. I love that you are able to share this with him. I hope that block makes it's way into a frame 💕Please be sure to share his progress with us! (PS When I teach first-timers to make a block, I use larger pieces. With log cabins, I start them with a 2 1/2" center square. It tends to help with accuracy and gives my students more confidence :)
Will definitely share the progress! And yes, we should have used wider strips, we got caught up with trying to make it the same as the one we saw in the exhibition
