Wonderful idea to use a discarded/recycled computer fan grill as a grate to hold coals up off the floor of the stove. The Ikea strainer has holes int he bottom and this might not make a big difference. Every bit does help. If the stove was fabricated with a solid tin such as a countertop storage flour or sugar can, I think there will be a vast improvement. The latter has a solid metal bottom and often holes are drilled aroung the sides. That space under the coals should help to get things going.
