China is truly awesome of the ancient rich histories in so many parts of the country. The citizens are lucky to have the luxury of infrastructure super connectivity of roads and rails to tour within the country itself. With convenience and management of well-maintained parks and roads, hats off.
Kaifeng is a great town to historically visit though many are rebuilds. I know the Confucian temple in the east part is because it was torn down during the Cultural Revolution. The theme park was fun. Always enjoy the shadow puppets.
There's nothing wrong with rebuilding. Our culture wasn't really too keen on the idea of a building something permanent and everlasting; What's important is that the structure existed in the past, or at least adhering to the original style of architecture in the past. It's our own architecture and we deserve to build it.
A scooter/electric bike, together with the high speed train is the best way to travel in China,. It's very difficult to find a parking place for a car in many cities but you can always squeeze in a bike. Asking for good luck in difficult times is common in ALL religions by the way. There's a reason that religion often becomes more popular in difficult (war)times because people need a spirtual helping hand.
I’m trying to get info about the Jewish community in Kaifeng, do you know anything about it? I know that there was a Jewish synagogue/ temple there and many historical artifacts that indicate Jews living there for centuries but the government doesn’t seem to want to preserve this.
Very interesting. I think as an outsider looking in, aspects still remains in China today as far as politics go, its just done a bit different in a so called "modern way". .
