This song. This song is my favorite Bright Eyes song. I cry every time I hear it. Everyone needs someone in their life that they can tell that they're glad they didn't die before they met them.
This song is my wedding song with my wife.. we are going on 18 years and I am only 41... so its been a lifetime for me. I think it really is about recognizing that this person has changed your life and you want to keep building with them. I love it. If you have time, please check out "the silence" by Manchester Orchestra.
Great recommendations! But make sure to listen to the originals from 2005 rather than the companion versions that came out this year (actually love the Arc of Time companion version, but nothing beats the originals! Lol)
@@thecaitlinator4035 You know it! I got each original album on vinyl and just started collecting the companion versions, starting with Digital Ash and Lifted. One thing I wish they did was make a companion for _"Cassadaga"_
@@knightscroftsquire-muldoon I’m not sure where I read this and now can’t find it so maybe it was a rumor, but somewhere I read that a Cassadaga companion is also planned in the future. Wherever I saw this had said they were doing Cassadaga, The People’s Key, and then an EP highlights companion with songs from their EPs they’ve had over the years. I think the only one that wasn’t going to get a companion was Down In The Weeds since the original album was released so recently… so fingers crossed that wasn’t just a rumor! Lol
Love the reaction! Bright Eyes is a great band. I recommend checking out Easy/Lucky/Free… the band released 2 albums on the same day in 2005 with very different sounds. First Day Of My Life is from the folksier of the 2 albums, and Easy/Lucky/Free is from the more rock/electronic-y album. Would live to see more Bright Eyes reactions!
I was about to say this was the second Easy/Lucky/Free suggestion before realising they were both from you 😅 Its so cool that they released two contrasting albums on the same day. After checking out Easy/Lucky/Free, I'd be tempted to listen to both I'm Wide Awake and Digital Ash back to back!
@@alsvinylcollection haha yeah sorry for the double comment! And I yes! Listening to the 2 back to back would be great! I’m Wide Awake was definitely the larger success in terms of reception but I’ve always loved Digital Ash a ton as well :)
oh i love bright eyes so much! First Day of My Life is a really good entry point to Conor Oberst's wide range of emotionally raw songs, if you want some more recommendations i got some for ya :] -Laura Laurent from the album Lifted (Probably their most fleshed out conceptual album) -Down in a Rabbit Hole from the album Digital Ash in a Digital Urn (Album with the most digital production) -At the Bottom of Everything from the album I'm Wide Awake (First Day of My Life is also from here! Fully acoustic album released together with Digital Ash) -Padraic My Prince from the album Letting Off the Happiness (Their second album, very uncomfortable music production used to great effect) -Hot Car in the Sun from the album Down in the Weeds (Their latest album, very orchestral and cinematic production) -Sunrise, Sunset from the album Fevers & Mirrors (Their breakout album, super angsty!)
I don't get how anyone can hear this and not cry...
"Brakeman" is easily my favorite song. You're listening to a future legendary songwriter.

Bright eyes, lime tree track
Connor obersts solo upside down mountain album, common knowldge track
I sing them in my head almost every night.
Check out I believe in symmetry or arc of time from bright eyes! Those two are so beautiful and deep.
