    ‘Articulate with my rythmn at subtle dynamics’ excellent. While back I commented on Rick Diors site ‘ technique, musicality, audience’ as the three main elements of music. His reply, there is no separation. That everything musically has an explanation in how it’s done. That everything boils down to technique.

    Such a useful lesson! The importance of the balance of each instrument is massively underestimated imo and this is so thoroughly and articulately explained here....and perfectly demonstrated with a phenomenal sound. Pure class 👌

    Hello from Kansas City, Missouri. Great Video as always Steve. One of the major complaints against drummers of all genres is that they are playing too loud because their not listening and adjusting their Dynamics. The concepts in this video and exercises based on these concepts will fix that. In other words being able to play with Intensity at any Dynamic Level. Also, what made the first two demonstrations quote unquote "bad Jazz drumming" was not only Unintentional Accents, and lack of Dynamic Range/Control, but also not enough Variety of Language on the Ride, Hat and Snare. In other words it was not only what you were playing but also how you were playing it. It sounded like either a beginner Jazz Drummer or a Caricature of Jazz Drumming. And I loved your lessons on Drumeo. Hope you can do more. Thanks.

    Isnt hitting different spots on the cymbal a matter of taste? I guess you gotta do it on purpose and not on accident. Is that what ur saying

    I’m starting to understand…
    Your not arguing against accents your saying that the accent should be there intentionally every time.
    If I’m switching from a 4/4 beat and I want to do a 7 note subdivided fill, the accents aren’t occurring as an accident of motion and transitions are consistent in velocity, height, location, of stick.
    However use accents as much as you want if it excites you but strive for each one to be an intentional execution while placing an emphasis again on your stick velocities etc.

    Hey, whats up, currently watching the video, great stuff, i also wanted to ask if you have any recommendations for left hand dexterity at tap dynamic, i find myself not being able to be precise with multiple notes at a low dynamic.
    Also, loved the phrasing between the limbs, is there anything you recommend to expand vocabulary, type of stuff to understand and struggle at to then be creative, thank you!

    Am I right to say: Homeostatic technique is developed through keeping all limbs at the same stick height/ intensity with consistent strike zones?

    • @stevelymandrums
      @stevelymandrums  Месяц назад +5

      Yes. But with one large and important caveat: change in subdivision, or addition of ornamentation or beginning or ending of note phrases as well do not contribute to creating accents that are not otherwise intended as well in addition to having all limbs the same heights with consistent strike zones as well as consistent motions up-and-down.

      @@stevelymandrums Ornamentation means things like switching between singles and paradiddles right?
      Also, when practicing intentional accents, should the velocity of accents change accordingly or only the stick height?
      Thank you for your time responding.

      No matter what you play will sound terrible. The ride cymbal sounds like the top of a trash can, very bad sounding, at least get a good sounding ride cymbal to try teaching!
