I won’t miss short form content at all and haven’t ever participated in creating any, but I do like the quick hits of inspiration they provide. Recipes, motivational, crafts, etc. I like that part of it. But yeah no money to be made there.
I SOOOO agree with this video. We don’t have Tik Tok and never will. And I’m tired of watching the same thing every other video and hearing the same song redone 15,000,000 times!
I think it all has its place. An as Etsy shop owner, I love using short form content to do quick videos of my products. I also love posting pictures. I've been toying with the idea of starting a RUclips channel, as well, but I really really like being able to make a quick video with catchy music to showcase a few things I've made and then move on with my day.
Interesting perspective! I don’t think short form is done YET but I agree that TikTok has hit “a” peak- the fact that they now offer long video is proof that long form still matters! But people’s attention spans are so short so it’s not surprising it has performed well!
I never downloaded TikTok. I really don't like shorts because I don't want to have to get out of shorts to see if there is a longer video on something that grabs my attention.
Thank you for saying this. I was caught in the FB reels making money for months and then one day it was gone. Coming back to my bread and butter on RUclips and my digital products. (Thanks to your amaze a balls advice and are selling well).
Makes sense to me. I don’t think short term content will just die off completely. Tik tok is great for quick dinner ideas and quick parenting hacks, but I think you are right on the whole.
Love your videos! I just started my channel in January and have had friends say “you NEED to get on tik tok too etc etc”. I tried to explain my logic and that it wasn’t really the route I’m going for but I think they thought I was a fool. Happy to see others feel likewise
I couldn’t agree more!! So happy I took the jump and did RUclips Rockstars!! I love long form content and the real connection it creates!! Thanks Jessica!!
It really depends on your niche. It's easier to digest, motivation, art tuts, crafting videos or hacks as short form opposed to long form content unless you're telling a story and making a connection in your long video.
I’ve been experimenting with short form content for a few months, doing a short video and repurposing it on YT Shorts, Insta Reels, TikTok and Pinterest Ides Pins. It’s a pain in the proverbial and yet another thing on my to-do list. It’s not making me money either. So thank you, I now feel I have permission to end this annoying, time sucking experiment lol!
This makes me happy! I really don't like short form content... Although i can see how some can be entertaining, most of them offer no value to the viewer. The odd time I've thought i'd give TikTok a try, I've addictively spent most of an evening scrolling through not realising how much time I've actually wasted. Yes that's my fault i know, but what I'm trying to say is that when I watch RUclips I feel happy and inspired afterwards and don't feel as though I've wasted my time, whereas watching TikTok/Reels I feel the total opposite and to be truthful, actually quite annoyed with myself. 😔 - Nikki x
I never use TikTok. It never fits the content I want to create. I am a DJ so I play live on Twitch and give tips on RUclips. I will play a quick mix in YT shorts but that's all the short-form content I need. I will not be sad to see it go.
This is an interesting perspective for sure. I personally love my short-form content. Although FB and IG did away with the reels bonus, you can still make a lot of money from the performance bonus. I now have ads on my Reels and I'm interested to see how this does in regards to monetization.
I would love for long form contact to come back. I hate the shorts. I listen to RUclips contact with earbuds and I don’t like looking for new videos every other minute.
I love everything about this video! I don't like short-form content either. It's cringy every time I think about creating it for my business. This is a big reason why I am strongly pursuing RUclips because I know the value in having a successful RUclips Channel so its worth the effort. Vs when me and my fiance went viral on Tiktok a few times and hit over 1.3 Million views we got paid a whopping $125. lol
I NEVER have been a fan of short content. I never understood WHAT the Dance things were. I just figured it is because I am older and it was a youth thing. I did not then and I do not now see the purpose. I am watching to learn. If I want to watch people dance, I will watch a music video when they dance for the WHOLE 3+ minutes. Shorts? drive me nuts, I get NOTHING from them. and I have found I am less likely to go to their site if they only have time to say, GO TO MY SITE! Why? Why do I need to go to your site, this short has told me NOTHING! So Jessica, I am SO with you, I will wave at it as it passes. BYE!!!! ;-)
I'm with you, I prefer long-form content, especially with my channel, and I never really liked TikTok, even during the pandemic. I don't want to just sit and scroll because it wastes time, which is why I don't go on Instagram often because I get drawn into the reels. I hope they go away and then I don't have to worry about it.
This is an interesting perspective. I believe there is an audience for both short form and long form content. As someone who's been creating content for years, lately I've been mainly focused on creating short form videos (Reels, TikTok's, Shorts) because that's what's been growing my pages. I do want to get back to making long-form content because I feel like I can better express myself in that format and provide value to my audience.
What’s great about long-form content, especially on RUclips is this- the content creator can talk to their viewers like they’re their best friends. I like hearing the RUclipsrs talk about the clothing in more detail. With long-form content, the creator doesn’t have to hurry up and talk about the pieces in the video. Long-form is the GOAT because it’s more personable, for sure.
Even though I want Instagram to return normal to posts , I enjoy my short form content cause my ADHD seems to go better on it. I collect way more information at a day, but im at the same time overstimulated with all the information.
I like short form for my own entertainment, but not for education. But as a content creator? I hate making it... It just doesn't seem worth the time it takes (which is nearly as much or MORE than a long form video). I'd rather be making something that really serves my people instead. So that's what I'll keep doing. So far, it's working for me...
WOOOHOOOO!!! GOODBYE short form content! I LOVE to consume (AND create) long form content so much more! There's so much more pride and accomplishment that comes from long form
I definitely prefer the long form! Everything about it is way better for me. :) Question though: what about the coach-y people on TT who are saying they're making a bunch of money? Is that because of what you said; the ybuild an audience and then work to get people actually off TT to another place to buy / book, etc?
Great points!! I think short form content has its place and value, but overall think it’s not good for attention spans or making money. Have a great weekend!! 🤞😊✌️😊
I enjoyed making short form on RUclips for comedy it works well but otherwise it is better to have long form. My shorts are actually more entertaining because I took the best moment from my long form - overall though it is not sustainable.
I enjoy hearing your take on this! I've been sort of doing a 100 day challenge to post a short video daily (😅) to learn the skills and possibly jump start my channel. Admittedly, my vids are less than stellar, but it's alil discouraging bc it's not going anywhere. And my own short vid scrolling sessions on any platform are definitely getting boring, so... ??
thank you for this. Tiktoks and reels can be fun sporadically, but it's not me. I can't force myself to enjoy or participate in something I don't like. I also feel fatigued of seeing excessive theatrics from short-form creators...that's why I try to only follow nature or art accounts. I seek more authenticity and simplicity in what I consume and what I create 💞
I haven't understood the tik tok craze, but I do enjoy creating the shorts on my RUclips channel and have learned so much creating them. Though, my style may be totally different than the norm. ❤
It hurts my heart to see that short form content may be on its way out. Honestly, I went into a horrible depressive episode thinking about TikTok being banned because it's given me connections and success with different niches that I just haven't seen with other platforms.
I hate short form content! I think it causes brain damage. 🤦🏼♀️ But I do occasionally make shorts for fun and audience growth like you said. C ya short form, wouldn't wanna be ya😅
Agreed, short form content sucks. Especially short form content that is less than 60 seconds long and is presented in a continuous scroll that is controlled by the algorithm. And is designed to be addictive. The intent matters and the intent behind TikTok is not good. I would add that Instagram is also bad. A photo is one frame, so it's the shortest content possible. You can scroll on Instagram forever and it's very addictive. Most photos don't contain any story and most people don't add much text below the photo to add story. The only way photos can be healthy is if there is a really good story that's at least 500+ words long and is accompanied by some great photos. Like a blog post on a website.
My husband’s channel (non-tech) has a pretty large audience with some of his shorts hitting over a million but they are not profitable. The only benefit he has seen is, as you said, is audience growth. That being said, I’ve noticed that they seem to “water” down a channel where once it was making a lot more profit, then shorts were introduced, and income decreases. This seems to be due to a short vs long video audience. I’m not sure if this is just what we noticed or if this a cause vs effect that everyone is seeing. ✌️
Damn, right when I started to become interested in shortform. I hope it just balances out. I feel like for a person like me I prefer short form for certain topics.

That, or you can use a short form content as a behind-the-scenes look at who you are as in your branding or personal character. Say, doing short form content videos of bloopers of what NOT to do… things like that to crack people up and get to know you.

Yeah, I would much rather go back to instagram being photo based and keep watching YT. First off I dread the time it takes to make reels and not have a huge payoff in views or interaction. Second, mindless scrolling on tiktok is also a waste of time. Oddly I only really like tiktok for the lives. I like to watch small business owners work.
I sure hope so! Not that I have started any form of video creation as a form of business but I don’t like editing my thoughts down and I can’t talk fast. I mean I have a TikTok but it’s just for me to start getting comfortable filming and seeing how I can make content and get comfortable on camera. I do want to make a RUclips channel because I can talk for a while and I like to have more of a conversation. I think TikTok shortens the attention span.
I needed to watch this today! 💜 I like what you said: IG and TT are there to grow an audience not to make $. Or at least you can, but down the line after you built an audience. Do you still create on TT and IG then or you’re letting them go completely?
I really only ever played with TT, it grew fast but wasn’t massively converting. I gave up on Instagram a year + ago, i really only post if i want and then use stories to connect with y’all!
Short will not go away if it is entertaining same for long form - as long as it is entertaining people will watch it but pumping stuff out there just for the sake of it is not a good strategy. One short a week may be okay - something thoughtful.
For Instagram reels, I like seeing stuff like spring jacket rotations where the creator shows the different jackets. Quick collection videos where they show their entire sneaker collection is good, too. But honestly, both of those can work for a longer RUclips video where everything is explained in detail a lot.
I enjoy watching shorts for a short time just for entertainment or a quick tip but it does not make me to follwo the creator of the short. Also, shorts do not allow the creator (including me) to provide proper info that I need to send across. Subscribers are not the king anymore. The views and the watch time are the king and the queen. Shorts may bring in subs but not a follower.
It also depends on trends and of course… Attention spans 🙃 I don’t mind short form content but what really matters is the value you get from either short form or long form content. A lot of people in my niche will create 30+ minutes. I don’t mind that, BUT I really appreciate value. If your content is just 30 minutes of disorganized and incoherent wording, I lose interest right away. It all depends on the person and their interest. I understand it’s a tool for some and a piece of junk for others, but I want to embrace both short and long form content to create something for different audiences. It’s a great tool for digital marketing though 😉 Thank you 🙏
I think short form content is here to stay. The younger generations don't have the attention span to watch long form content. They have ADD (attention deficit disorder).
That’s the point - like, if TikTok gets banned then, we’ll stop using it - ha. But also, most people who create content for the other short form platforms are only doing it because it leads to growth so once it doesn’t, they won’t
OMG yes, I'm NOT here for the short form, it's so brain dead and uninteresting and useless. I literally can't bring myself to create short form content so I'm over here hoping it dies a quick death haha
@Jessica Stansberry Hi Jessica. So after many months of procrastination, I decided to just get on with getting on with it, and begin my entrepreneurial adventure rather than just putting it off and watching/reading endless tutorials etc. SO.... now I'm confused because I've been learning that for beginner affiliate marketers, TikTok should be a place I start. Of course, I want to use all the platforms but I want to just start off with affiliate marketing, but I'm thinking that it won't be too long, relatively, that I'll be wanting to do brand sponsorships etc. I trust you, so without completely disregarding everything youve said in this video, is it a good idea for a beginner affiliate marketer who wants to later branch out to... wherever things go... to focus on tiktok like I've been seeing? lol.
I had to delete TikTok too! I was so addicted to it and fed up of not being able to do anything without a video playing.
Yessss
I would be SO happy if short form content went away!
SAMMMEEE!!!
I absolutely hate all the short form Content and I hope it goes away really soon! Not only have I never figured it out but it just drives me crazy!!!!

It all depends on the person and their interest. I understand it’s a tool for some and a piece of junk for others, but I want to embrace both short and long form content to create something for different audiences.
It’s a great tool for digital marketing though 😉
Thank you 🙏
Hate IG reels...Hate RUclips shorts....
This makes me HAPPY 💕🐛🦋
This is such a good video with some great points. 🎉
If short form content goes away, I will throw a party. Not a fan.
I think short form content is here to stay. The younger generations don't have the attention span to watch long form content. They have ADD (attention deficit disorder).
I HOPE YOU’re RIGHT !!!
The only way short form will go away is when we stop using it…. 😂
That’s the point - like, if TikTok gets banned then, we’ll stop using it - ha. But also, most people who create content for the other short form platforms are only doing it because it leads to growth so once it doesn’t, they won’t

I have never liked it, i feel free after this video LOL
Yes out with it ❤
Bye 👋 short form
SAME.. a lot of it is such low quality content. Not interested at all.
OMG yes, I'm NOT here for the short form, it's so brain dead and uninteresting and useless. I literally can't bring myself to create short form content so I'm over here hoping it dies a quick death haha
To be honest it would be so nice if it went away! 😂😮
where did you get that sub counter behind you 🤔
Amazon! It's called a Lametric WiFi clock
Wait WHATTTTTTT
I prefer short form. Hate the bla bla bla.
It depends on the content for me
This should be funny..
Berry pls I your help
@Jessica Stansberry Hi Jessica. So after many months of procrastination, I decided to just get on with getting on with it, and begin my entrepreneurial adventure rather than just putting it off and watching/reading endless tutorials etc. SO.... now I'm confused because I've been learning that for beginner affiliate marketers, TikTok should be a place I start. Of course, I want to use all the platforms but I want to just start off with affiliate marketing, but I'm thinking that it won't be too long, relatively, that I'll be wanting to do brand sponsorships etc.
I trust you, so without completely disregarding everything youve said in this video, is it a good idea for a beginner affiliate marketer who wants to later branch out to... wherever things go... to focus on tiktok like I've been seeing? lol.
Even Reels are so dead now on IG
Yes they are. i thought it was only me , over the last few weeks my reels haven't been getting any views. i used to get anywhere from 2k to 5k
@@TheAriasFam same! Now I’m going to start using carousels with photos and clips inserted as slides
Yeah, the views are not as good on reels anymore. I mean, when I look at reels its mostly reposts. I like instagram for the photos.
