Kirkcaldy to Aberdour on the Fife Coastal Path

- A coastal walk in Scotland's East Neuk of Fife offering wonderful views over the Firth of Forth. The Fife Coastal Path runs for about 114 miles between Kincardine and Newburgh, passing through little coastal villages and towns like Culross, Burntisland, Lower Largo, Anstruther, St. Andrews, and many more. Today's walk is around 9 miles long. Starting in Kirkcaldy, we head south by the ruins of Seafield Tower towards Kinghorn and have a seat by the old church. Views across the Firth of Forth towards Edinburgh, Arthur Seat and even the Pentland Hills are quite simply stunning. We pass Pettycur and make our way by a broad sandy bay into Burntisland before heading further west by Silversands Bay into Aberdour.
A truly magnificent walk that offers everything you could ever hope for in a coastal walk: pretty little fishing villages and lapping waves and ancient crumbling towers and the joy of a dander by the sea.
Thank you Eddie, a grand walk along the beautiful Fife Coastal Path. So looking forward to our next break in the fabulous East Neuk in May 2023. Brilliant piece of music and song at the end of the video Ed.
Many thanks. It's a stunningly beautiful area of the country. I always relish a visit to Fife's East Neuk. May's not far off. Take care.
Well, what can I say……this is my favourite video so far. The stunning views, the weather, the great stories, huge blueberries and basking seals. A melancholy, but lovely song, to finish……wonderful🏴
Thanks Margaret.
Thank you! Your story about the women yelling made me laugh.🇺🇸
Great video Eddie.
You brought a lot of memories back about the woman shouting up at the flats. I am 74 years old and born and brought up in Camlachie, Gallowgate, east end of Glasgow. I would shout up to my mother on the fourth flat of our tenement in Annfield St, " heh Maw, throw us doon a piece'n jam"! Doon came the piece only to be stolen by one of the McCaffertys, an Irish family who lived around the corner in Emily Place.
In the early nineties I climbed on HawkCraig, the sea cliff in Aberdour.
Cheers Lochlainn.
Very enjoyable video Ed stunning walk and a great song to finish take care until next time 🏴🏴
Thanks 👍
This video is one of my favorite Ed. The views are amazing, and a bit of a great chat. I’m going to share it with my 4 sons. I know they will enjoy it also. The perfect song for the ending. Well done 🌞
Lynn in Naples Fl
Thanks Lynn. It's was a lovely day. If I've got my videos right I think I sat on a bench by an old church. Views were out of this world. One of those moments.
Thank you
Alright Ed, I always seem to watch 1 of your videos and then get pulled into watching video after video. I think I’m just about caught up on your full library now 😂 great work as always. And your stories always have me giggling, light hearted, educational and just all around fun videos. Take it easy.
Many thanks for that. Always good to get a nice comment. Take care.
I love how those seals were able to relax without fear of molestation or predators. I think every sentient creature should be able to relax and enjoy the company of their mates just like those seals were doing. I reckon this walk is very close to where my ancestors were from because my last name is a sept of the Clan Macduff and the ruins of Macduff Castle are right around there somewhere. I think about how my genes came from there, probably evolving for thousands of years from some ancient Picts or something before one of them decided to get in a boat sometime in the 18th century and move to North Carolina. I need to take that walk.
Brilliant Eddie. 🫡🤘🏼
Well done Ed another one of ure wonderful walks lovely scenery and what a great day you had for it well done take care
Thanks, you too.
Absolutely beautiful Ed. Looking out my window here in Ohio I long for Scotland! Thank you for sharing
Thank you.
Thanks Great walk all the best from Edinburgh
Many thanks Peter.
Top Class Eddy.
Love the song.
Keep safe.
Cheers Andy.
Great wee song, enjoyed your video, cheers, hope your pint was good !
Good video. You must walk a lot of extra miles with shots into the camera and leaving it. Loved the story of your dad. Disappearing dads on family days out, must be a common strain in all our childhoods. Brings back memories.
.
Cheers. 👍
A great wee video Ed, ma faither was born and brought up in Windygates, jist ootside Kirkcaldy at the end of the staunin' stane road, so ah've spent a lot of holiday time there. Back in the auld days you could smell the linoleum factory before you saw it.
Once known as both 'The Lang Toon' and 'The Smelly Toon', Kirkcaldy is a town I will always return to for a visit. Lot of work going on just now along the Promenade. Cheers Colin.
The part from Kirkcaldy to Kinghorn is called the Easter Braes great wee walk.
Thanks for that David. A great walk indeed.
A good wee adventure Ed. I will need to give Fife Coastal Path a wee trek sometime soon and see if I can see those seals . Cheers all the best Andy
It was a great day out. I may have missed the seals if someone hadn't told me, so I was looking out for them.
Great video Ed, your film quality, music and banter are superb. just watched your previous Kirkcaldy video the other day. I lived there for 12 years and didn't go anywhere near the coastal path. Looks a lovely walk 👍
Thanks Derek. It's difficult not to love the East Neuk of Fife.
A stunning video Eddy, capped by beautiful music and lyrics at the end. You are a talented musician!
I have been binge watching the last five or six videos, and really enjoyed the lot!
On a different note, in the first week of September, I was on a flight from Doha to Edinburgh, and was convinced I saw you (or your double) upon arriving in Edinburgh!
Take care Eddy, and best regards, Rob.
Cheers Rob. I do occasionally visit Edinburgh via the airport bus from Glasgow, especially if the direct bus is packed.
Hi Ed had a conversation on the same lines about yesterday. seasons end we thought what the neanderthals and denisovans would have thought about the gathering gloom and cold. no supermarkets in those times! regards
You certainly got a brilliant day for the walk. The east coast always seems to do better than the west when it comes to the weather. The Fife coastal path has a bit of everything and some incredible scenery. Seals do seem to be getting more and more common. It's almost like foxes, they are less fearful of humans so we see them more. Enjoyed the song at the end, hope you enjoyed the pint :-)
It was a day of memories. And of clouds. Take care.
You weren't kidding Ed, the views are stunning but it takes a good photographer such as yourself to catch them perfectly.
Markel skies and Mares tails tall ships go to smaller sails. My grandfather taught me to read the sky and sea. It gives a very accurate 2 to 6 hour weather window. Weather at sea or on a hill.
You've got an eye and you've got an ear.
Yup. And one of each to spare.
Well, what can I say. You have given us so many wonderful video journeys over the years Ed. This wee 33-minute EPIC is full of character and knowledge for us to digest and hopefully lead us to travel more by shank's pony. Thank you for your latest creation Ed. The words to the music are a good addition to.
Thanks Cammy.
@@EdExploresScotland A pleasure Ed.
My grandparents lived in the big sandstone house on the seafront at Kinghorn - the first floor window on the right was their flat. A superb place to spend a childhood.
There was a lot more of Seafield Tower when I was a boy. A lot of it collapsed into the sea during a storm in the 1990s.
I'd certainly love to live in that area Dougie; it's just beautiful.
Loved this episode Eddie, and your song, wow, it is very good, surely captures the feeling you described and one that a lot of us feel. Thanks once more for a great wee episode. 👏
Cheers Brenda.
What a lovely walk and a beautiful day! I love a magical creative cloud day as well. That seal really was waving at you and the white one was so beautiful! I've never seen a white one before. Really enjoyed your song and words too. I love autumn but it goes past too quickly and the dark nights creep in affecting how we feel. Is the island at 31:19 Inchcolm?
Many thanks Dawn-Marie. Yes, that was Inchcolm Island and its abbey. 👍
Absolutely stunning, Ed 👍🏻🇦🇺👍🏻
Many thanks Kate.
Excellent work Ed. Cheers
Wonderful video Ed. You cheer me up with these beautiful views and lovely conversation. That’s a perfect song for this time of year. October is a very melancholy time for me. The lyrics touch gently on my heart. Your efforts to create these films is greatly appreciated. Lynn
Thanks Lynn.
Lovely video. As a Kirkcaldy local, I'm very familiar with this walk. Beautifully captured. I must have been down on the prom at a similar time on Tuesday, as I clearly watched the same boat moving out that you captured at the start.
These were beautiful shots, you picked some great spots to show off how beautiful this coastal path is, I walk this path twice every week to and from burntisland and always appreciate how beautiful scotland is, even if it's a horrible day. My only criticism would be the intro. It was a little amateur in comparison to the professionalism of the video, also it was way too long. On this app audience retention is important and most viewers would have clicked off before the video truly began. Hope you take this as constructive criticism and not just as another troll on the internet. Beautiful video tho regardless 😊
Many thanks. I do tend to rabbit on a bit now and then. Stunning area of the country. Take care.
What is that beautiful tune in the intro called? Where can I find it?
In the majority of cases I make my own music for the videos. I use Cubase Elements, and while most sounds are midi, guitars and vocals are generally real. Can't recall what the music was; I don't always give them names. Just something I made in the house, like a cake, I suppose.
Hi, maybe the woman in partick...... was puting her kebab order in!
I'd not thought of that. Laugh out loud job! 👍
looks good, do you think this is mountain bikeable, would get train back , would probably do abedour to kircaldy
Hi Tim. I don't have a great deal of knowledge about mountain biking. Ordnance Survey maps will give you an idea of the terrain, but I suppose they won't give you an accurate on-the-ground heads-up. My gut feeling is it may not be suitable for mountain biking, as there were very steep narrow stone steps, rocks, and very narrow paths. Sorry I can't be more positive.
As someone who has walked and cycled it, I would advise not to cycle the Kirkcaldy to Kinghorn section. Partly due to the steps requiring you to be and off, partly in deference to the many walkers and dog walkers. You really have to take care and I have been left feeling a bit of a plum on my bike previously. Narrow too. Single file in places.
Great pavement and road from Kinghorn to Burntisland for cycling along thr front. Then Burntisland to Aberdour is a fine cycle too. I would recommend Jawbanes Road leading from the same edge of Kirkcaldy, going over the hills behind Kinghorn and Burntisland. Super views. Good hills. Quiet. Considerate drivers from the odd car.
thare used to be a great wee second hand record shop in kinghorn
