I have the same problem with my couch. It makes you wonder why manufacturers put such short feet on them in the first place! Thanks for the informative video!
Exactly. This fouton is almost on the ground where I was sleeping lol it's the height of the sponge..
Great video and thanks for the info! The easier way to find the center of the square template is to just draw a straight line from corner to corner and the center is where they intersect :)
Don't you just love a handy man around the house ;)
This just changed my whole life! I never knew this existed. I need my roomba to get underneath the couch so I don’t have to do it manually. Thanks.
I trust it will work for you. thanks for watching
cool. I didn't know that they had taller feet. I ended up making platforms for my furniture to sit on. I am 6 ft tall and older and getting up from low places is difficult.
I just got a sofer from wayfarer it's like seating on the floor should be for the liveroom not the bedroom
@@julieling1212 Go on Etsy.com. They have all kinds of legs...different heights & styles. They're beautiful.
@@julieling1212 hahaha, I agree. Same here. I'm 5/9 and it's ridiculous how they make this sofas this days.
Thanks for walking us through the process. I realize now that I will need those metal brackets, so I can order them at the same time as the legs and not have to make that frustrating trip to the hardware store mid-project!
This was a great video. Now I have confidence to you my DIY project. I'm going to use three sets of 4x4 or wider to raise my sofa. Hopefully 8 inches, 4x4's on each end and one set in the center of the sofa. To support the weight of my family members. I'll paint them black and place rubber feet in three sections for all three supports. Michael Jordan and a 600 pound person will be able to sit in this sofa. Also, I'm going to use furniture glue or some type of super glue to hold everything in place. I don't have a drill and don't know how to use one. And won't need for anything else. Wish me the best.
How’d it go??!
Thank you so much! Did this today with my son. You really helped make the project easy!
The sliders your wife put on the bottom of the feet are for carpeted surfaces. The moment a piece of sand or grit gets under the foot, it will scratch up your beautiful floor. Use a felt or carpet base slider for hardwood or tile floors, for a smooth glide without the worries of scratching the floor.
Great Job. I need to do the same thing my knees hurt trying to get up from my sofa. 😎
Thank you so much for sharing this info. This is the first time we have seen legs like this and wanted to confirm that we were doing them correctly. Very much appreciated!
You’re welcome. I hope it works for you.
Great video! My sectional doesn’t have feet, I think the previous owner, forgot to give ‘em to us. It’s very low and I need to add feet. Your video is the first I find adding feet to a couch/seat, so thank you so much!
You’re welcome I think you’ll find the feet of your choice on Amazon and good luck with your project
Googled 'how to add legs to a couch' and whataya know! Great DIY tutorial. 1st thought I had 'I need to show my guy this video'. 2nd was 'i could probably do this'. Then, immediately following that thought was 'I wish you were here to do it' 🙋 (not kidding) those were my instant reactions watching this. I do however wanna add those legs that kinda stick out. Ya know, the ones w/ an angle. Do they screw in- at an angle? Ugh, so much I need to know😩
Kay Also, You can do it just follow the steps steps and you’ll have A taller couch
i have a lovely couch but it isn't easy to clean under so I was hoping it would be easy to put taller legs on it. Thanks for this tutorial!
You are welcome
Yesssss....I knew I saved my old sofa feet for a reason! Hopefully I wont have to do all that drilling th
🤞🏾...Thank you!!
Awesome!! Trying to do diy projects all the way from Mauritius. Finding all the parts is a task
Can you order from Amazon, I have links below in the Show Notes
I need to do this however I don't think it's gonna be this simple for me considering that 2 out of the 4 holes seem to be Stripped I know it's not the couch legs because it did the same thing with the 1st set
Super helpful and straightforward. Thank you!
My couch doesn’t have feet at all and I’m thinking about adding them. It sits lower than my coffee table and recliners in my living room. Thanks for the tutorial!
You’re welcome and thanks for watching and good luck with your couch.
Well done, the health benefits of a higher sofa are huge, little aches and pains we put down to age and our lifestyle could be improved by this simple little tip (raise your sofa), ALL 8 homes of my friends have/ad way to low sofas (very similar to when you started your video) after letting them know of the benefits 3 have raised theirs, with books to start then proper longer feet/legs and they LOVE the comfort and long term benefits, 2 in particular miraculously stopped having occasional hip and back pain...True story.
Thanks for such a touching story
I have a bad spine and hips. Thanks for this idea
You are welcome, I trust it will work for you.
Love this, this is what I need. Also could feet be added in middle of couch (six total) for added support? Thks.
Laverne Newton You can add additional feet if it’s needed to support couch I would recommend it.
Awesome tutorial! Where can those legs be purchased?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for watching.
Thank you for this! I want to go grab some wood and cut/stain some taller feet so that I can store canned goods laying down in cardboard trays under the couches! I got the trays at Aldi & Costco. Just cardboard that canned goods come in.
This was a nice video! Thanks, for posting
I have the opposite problem. I bought a sofa/ love seat set because it was just the right height for my petite frame. I got it delivered my feet are dangling. No one at the showroom said the floor model would be very different. I've got brand new living room furniture I don't wanna sit in.
Change out the feet put smaller ones in
@@DIYHGP I've already sourced the replacements. This video gave me the courage to attempt it. Thank you.
Thank you, sir.❤
Usually when you raise the sofa/chair height, I believe you need to add center legs for frame support. The sofa’s weight baring structure changes from original design..
True, initially we just put an unopened can of vegetables with a few table coaster to get the right height in place of the middle supporting smaller leg (we only got a 4 pack of the longer feet), as the long sofa was against a wall it never really moved so we just stuck with the can, still there, no problems.
yeah the only trouble with adding extra feet in the centre at front & back, as i..m gonna have to do,( so alltogether there,ll be 6 or maybe 8 feet) is there isen.t anywhere to fasten the metal plates to.. so i.gm having to take the material off the bottom.. So i can add extra timber & somewhere to hold extra feet fixing plates, then re-upholster underneith with hessian
Will be doing this asap as just had a baby! Thank you for the video :)
Just sent this to my husband so he can install the spindles I purchased from Etsy. They’’re mahogany and I’m painting them red to go with our grey-blue sofa. Wish me luck! No, not the husband. The luck is for how long I may have to wait for him to finish this! Ha ha. Thanks for sharing. :)
Cheryl, good luck a little encouragement he should be able to do it just fine.
Great job sir
Great Job Mr DIY
Glad you liked it!
This helped me out a bunch. Thanks
You are welcome
Nice show man. I was curious if that hardware really worked. I plan on an 8 inch installation. I think my cushions sank some!!!
Yes, the hardware works.
Mine too. Also my arms got shorter and my knees can predict the weather now. I blame some of it on gravity, some on the daily box of Little Debbies, but most of it on the calendar. I think that raising the legs on my chairs 4" will certainly accomodate some of the damage.
Need to do the same for my recliner! Thank you.
Newly subbed. Great stuff!
I'm getting ideas to go about raising our 3 seater lounger that was once a pull out sofa. I want to raise it 20cms and then I'll have to make an inner frame to support the weight of 2 elephants.
Great video! My sofa sits way too low and this seems like an easy fix…that being said, the back legs of my sofa are shorter than the front ones. Can I replace all four legs with 6”? Or do I have to get shorter ones again for the back legs? Thanks!
That’s a difficult question for me to answer without seeing the couch. assume your couch sits level. seems you might want to order two pair of different sizes
Excellent video. Thanks 😊
You’re welcome and thanks for watching
Hi. Thanks for this video. It's really useful. We're planning on raising our sofa up as my parents have mobility issues and struggle when they visit us. Just one question, we have a leg in the centre of the sofa as it's a long sofa. What would you do with that/how would you raise it? It's not a foot, just a cylindrical piece of plastic. Thankss
You should add length to the middle leg as well. Should be done in the same fashion as the others.
LOOKS 💯Better!
Maybe a dumb question but did that kit come with the sample threaded shank? I somehow ordered ther exact same ones you did befire I watched the video (they'll be here tomorrow) and im wondering if ill need to make a trip to the hardware store as well
Mark with the pencil corner to corner on the cardboard template . This will make an X. X marks the spot.
Any problem keeping the straight edge of the legs flush with sofa... im guessing theres a possibilty of them being on some sort of an angle ?
what size drill bit is this?
Watch the metal plate one is for straight legs and one is for angled legs
Thank you so great!!!
This was really helpful, what type of feet, where from? Amazon?
The link to the feet are in the notes below
@@DIYHGP thnx
Thanks💜💜
Suzette Booker you are welcome.
That jump from 6:05 to 6:06 how did you get that screw in there like that?
It was a placeholder for just centering the middle foot plate
Very detailed video but my husband drill too big of a hole not they want screw in how do I fix it
Fill the hole with a dowel plug and then re-drill a smaller hole
Do you know how to remove legs from an antique wing back chair?
Carefully... sorry I can't give you advice without seeing it.
Does anyone know is he made the legs or brought them
I bought the legs if you look at my comments there is a link to Amazon for the legs.
I have the opposite problem. I need to lower my sofa. My feet dangle, which is uncomfortable and I like a lower profile sofa. Is it possible to shave the feet an inch or two?
While it is possible to cut feet down I’d recommend you buy a shorter leg for yourself just click on the link in the video show notes, then select A shorter leg.
So I can go buy those at Home Depot right!
No, but you can get them on Amazon here amzn.to/2pkOouD
Hi brother! Could u tell me where can I buy the legs for the sofa?
Here is a link to them on Amazon amzn.to/3iB5UES
my couch has slant legs in the back and square legs in front I want to replace with higher legs....can I replace all legs with the same new ones...since the original legs look different (slant back ...square front)
Yes, my couch had the same leg configuration, it worked for me. try these amzn.to/2Hk4huA
whay not draw a line from cornet to corner on the templete to find the dead centre?
I like your video. Your website is hard to navigate and there wasn’t much listed except for a link to the feet. I have feet with threads already but can’t seem to find the brackets with the 4 screws in the corner you threaded the feet into to hold them in place. Could you post a link to those?
Here is the link to the brackets. amzn.to/2HjJvvt
Nice!!
I have an ashey couch with triangle feet. I want to raise the couch 3 - 4 inches. where do I go to get bigger couch feet?
If you will look in the video description, you will find a link to Amazon website to buy feet
Helped me install tall feet to my sofa months ago. Now I need help adding tall feet to a low bed. I have back problem and low beds isn't for me...please tell me how I can do that?? The feet on this bed are small 1 inch circles kind of...can tall feet be adjusted to it the same way??
I’d like to be able to help you but there’s no way I can evaluate that without seeing the structure of your bed
I did this but the couch leg is not flush with the bottom of couch. Is that ok?
That’s impossible for me to tell you if I can’t see it. but if it works for you then it’s good to go.
Awesome
What type of screw is inside the old foot? I need to buy a long screwdriver for my drill to reach. Flat, phillips, hex?
Typically it’s a screw that’s already into the foot and you just grab the foot and turn it counterclockwise to unscrew it
You moved plate in second foot replacement right?
Plate is centered on the mounting brackets, the wood portion of the frame of the sofa. The screws are off center but the leg is centered.
Where did you buy the feet at
I bought the feet from Amazon there’s a link in my comments you can click on that and take you right to of them
Where do you go to buy sofa feet?
I have links to sew for feet in my comments below
Why I am here, I am a female who is trying to do it herself because everyone else is busy… I took the legs off to get the couch in the attic now I cnt get them back on. I cnt find the holes and when I do the screw only goes half way. So frustrated.
Sounds like the fabric is covering the hole for the screw try taking a pair of scissors or a utility knife and cutting away some of the fabric so you can see the hole.
please come fix mine....my knees hurt
I feel you man. Thanks for watching
Where can I buy the feet?
You can buy them here, amzn.to/2Ce2jue
Bravo! I need to do this!
😢 the music is too loud. Cant hear the instructions.
Where can I buy the sifa feet?
I have a link for you in the show notes on where to buy the feet
Great job. Can you make the legs?
I can now, but at the time of this video, I did not have the equipment.
is there a reason you could not mount the plate w/out the shank and drill a hole through the hole in the middle of the plate then just screw in the leg? I don't see the purpose of the middle shank in the plate thing
Tracy, yes, there is a reason... the mounting plate is threaded to receive the shank. If you mounted the plate then drilled the hole, you would have to use a drill bit smaller than the hole size, so not to drill out the threads in the plate. This would make the hole too small to receive the shank on the legs.
For more support🤓
Sure, You could do that, but the legs come with the shank in it.
to find center of that square....just make an X corner to corner middle of x is center....duh
SAVE ME IM STUCK IN ONE OF THEM AAA
Where can you buy those legs?
You can get them here, on amazon amzn.to/2S8TUA4
I am wooden sofa legs manufacturer , Can we work together to sell the wooden sofa legs ?
You can contact me at diyhgp@gmail.com
Hello, i sent email to you
Plate looks crooked.
I see wifey feet as she monitoring the project.
❤ Awesome please come to my house
A+++++++
So to replace sofa legs we need a workshop? I hate DIY!
You can just buy legs off Amazon and slap them on
Alot of work. Why not get a set of $4 risers at Walmart and put them under existing legs in seconds. Same affect.
Dude, just ask your wife if the Walmart risers would match the other furniture. Then, duck.
+DIY Home & Garden Projects Lol right!
Robert Clark. The risers are not a clean look.
We used the risers for years...but every time you move the couch it falls off the risers. Pain in the butt. Our sofa is really heavy.
That's it!
