I’ve been to three performances there although each occasion has always been as much about spending time in the building as whatever might be happening on the stage and I’d say it’s the same for most who go there. Watching people arrive and leave on the grand staircase is theatre in itself. It’s not an easy staircase to negotiate and it’s clear that everyone composes themselves before going up or down it. In fact it’s impossible not to!
Inside the minds of the people who own The Paris Opera House as well, it seems. There really is a Box Five. And, it really is reserved for The Phantom of the Opera! So, now we know there is possibly a Phantom of the Opera. The question is who was he when he was alive? Any thoughts?
This theater was for an emperor, he had his own private entrance. It was built for kings to attend and their court. This is where the legend the of the phantom of the opera story come from and it is the source of all the subsequent rendering of the novel, musicals , book adaptations and screen adaptations. There is an actual lake beneath it. It was the epitome of culture and art in 19th century Europe during the Napoleon dynasty when France was a world power.
I was born in Paris and for me, there is nothing more beautiful than the Sainte-Chapelle, a Rayonnant Gothic gem of the 13th century, built in 7 years and a pure architectural marvel, dazzling with light brought by its 1113 stained glass, a unique example in Europe. In 2nd position Palace of Versailles followed by Le Louvre.
I will never forget my first visit to the Palais Garnier several years ago. In my opinion the most beautiful building in Paris, and arguably in the entire world. Your video is so good, congratulations
I visited the Palais Garnier once a couple of years ago. On pictures and videos looks stunning but seeing the building live os just another experience. By far the most beautiful opera house in the world!
Captures quite well the original spirit of the baroque, dragging you out of this miserable existance into a world of wonders and aethereal beauty. Chapeau.
I was there once, some years ago. Not as a tourist but for a Rossini opera, "la Cerenentola". I did not visit the whole building of course. But it is one of my best memories. This monument has magic. Thank you for posting.
I'm not surprised why I find the exterior and interior of the Palais Garnier opera house to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. That's because it was built during the 2nd half of the 1800s, an era of relatively high prosperity and immense opulence combined with an eclectic taste in architecture. Same time period as St Pancras railway station in London. Such grand, beautiful buildings, mixing gothic, renaissance, baroque, and/or neoclassical styles--from theatres, railway stations, civic/government buildings, and even residential buildings (as is the case in Paris)--were built during that era throughout Europe and the Americas. My eyes always seems to spot architecture from that era and be drawn to it.
Magnificent building! Certainly different from the cold, straight up-and-down "architecture" of today's cities. I hope nothing ever happens to the Opéra Garnier, which in my opinion is the prettiest opera house in the world. In New York City, they don't think twice about replacing beautiful old buildings, such as the original Penn Station, with ugly modern structures. Only after a big public outcry did those who were going to demolish Grand Central Station change their minds.
Absolutely wonderful. I am glad I discovered your channel today. I have not seen anything like this. The quality and beauty of the images are unbelievable! Thank you so much!
Absolutely stunning! Thank you so much for sharing. It truly draws you in & brings this beautiful place to life. One of the most beautiful places on earth to me.
Taking my niece to Paris for her March break in 2016, she and I had a hilarious moment at the Opera Garnier. Being Canadian, my Quebecois French leaves a bit to be desired. Approaching the ticket office on the ground floor of the Opera, I asked " Deux billets de visite pour l'opéra si vous le pouvez." ..... at my request, the man behind the kiosk smiled and replied in PERFECT English "That'll be twenty Euros please....." I know my retelling doesn't do the encounter justice but, if you can imagine a Canadian and his niece, rehearsing their French BEFORE buying the tickets ONLY to have the man behind the counter speak BETTER English than us! She and I died laughing! The Opera house was amazing, if not a bit overdone. The front hall made the hall of mirrors at Versailles look 'underdone' ..... :) and yes, I thought of Gaston writing his novel, "the phantom of the opera" as we walked towards Box #5.
We are French speaking from Ontario. They always wanted to say, are you from Quebec? They really do appreciate our efforts. They just want to test their English with us.
@@rachelmartineau8102 Oh my retelling of the story doesn't do it justice. If you can imagine a 37 yr old man and his 17 yr old niece PRACTICING while on the Metro how to properly ask for a touring ticket en Français, only to have the clerk at the Opera house reply to us in PERFECT English! Ha ha ha .. "That'll be Twenty-Euros Please" .. She and I DIED laughing. Where abouts in Ontario? (Toronto here.) I visit France about every two years - if not home in Canada, France is the SECOND BEST place to be! :) My last visit (May 2020) was cancelled due to Covid sadly.
C'est une pure merveille et merci encore pour la vidéo le grand escaliers est magique et ce lieu tout entier est rempli de danse mais aussi de sacrifices et bien sur de persévérance.
Thanks so much, this was visually orgasmic. It would be wonderful to hear some of the music which would have been performed in it's infancy as a backdrop.
For me it's the most beautiful opera in the world. You must see live, and don't forget the phantom of the opera is there :-) If you go to Paris you must do 4 things : Eiffel Tower, Chateau de Versailles, Louvres and Palais Garnier.
It is very beautiful. Last April I could not visit it since it was under renovation. I saw it in Musee d’Orsay. Comparing the opera house in Budapest I think Garnier is more beautiful.
Wonderful video. Thank you. It could be twice as long, and I'd still be hanging on every frame. My only criticism is that you need to give some background to the Chagall installation. There were a couple of questioning posts below to which I replied. I LOVE that way you ended it with the buskers outside. Great touch.
Dear Alessio - so wonderful thank you. Can you tell what music you used? It makes the footage so grand and royal. What is the music you used? Thank you Everything is so clear and bright. Your equipment must be the best. Thanks
Thank you very much Russell! On my videos you can usually find the music track and title in the description section. If it's not there, it means that I have no record of it unfortunately 😊 Thanks for watching ✌🏼

I wish I could go there right now to watch The Nutcracker.
Do you list the musical background anywhere? It sounds like new age "Liquid Mind."
Most of my videos have the music title and artist listed in the description section 🙂
Iconic Residence of The Phantom! 💓
the angel of music is there
Where? Where is Erik? The place is absolutely massive! How can you be certain that he’s there?

A REAL MASTERPIECE !!! FRANCE IS SO MAGICAL COUNTRY WITH SO MANY ARTISTICAL PLACES EVERYWHERE
The most beautiful monument of Paris for me.
I must admit it has been a wonderful surprise for me! 🙂
It is “THE” monument of Paris.
This theater was for an emperor, he had his own private entrance. It was built for kings to attend and their court. As a Frenchman I think so too
I was born in Paris and for me, there is nothing more beautiful than the Sainte-Chapelle, a Rayonnant Gothic gem of the 13th century, built in 7 years and a pure architectural marvel, dazzling with light brought by its 1113 stained glass, a unique example in Europe. I could spend the rest of my life in a building like this.
I walked around inside for quite a bit, just to please my eyes 😁
Then there's high possibility that you'll become the Phantom of the Opera
I could spend the rest of my life under a building like this.
Hope you wear a black suit with a cape and a white opera mask and you're all set to go
Or, at least, meet him! I wonder if he’s still there!
When I was in Paris the last time, I was right in front of this place. What a shame I hadn't time to take a look into it. This is so beautiful!
une autre fois peut-être, you're welcome ;)
