This makes me consider mutilating a bunch of Akko CS Jelly Black's I have and repurposing them for the stabilized keys - and if that works out, I will mutilate some Akko Demons. 1. Open switch 2. Rip the spring leaf out with pliers or whatever, so long as the bottom housing is not damaged. 3. Take dremmel with a cutting disk on slowest speed possible to not melt / burn the plastic OR use the smallest hand saw available on the market. 4. Cut a straight line into the center pin, so that the light from the sensor can come through. 5. ??? 6. Profit Alternative way would be to get the smallest drillbit possible, and drill a hole in the center pin, where the light beam crosses through.
apparently some dude used markers on the bottom Akko switches, removed the pins and they started working in optical PCB's, crazy stuff, if you have time then you could surely try that, especially that your videos are high quality.
@@dd-v so u can’t rly do that unless you take the spring and stem and switch them into a optical housing switch, bottom line is just buy optical switches it’ll save you a lot of time
I have a Epomaker SK71 with Gateron optical browns, it's a really good keeb and I'm digging the switches too, it's good that Gateron have started doing more optical swtiches also, think they do yellows, silvers and greens now too which is good if I ever wanna swap.
It's still just one line of switches, colors making not much of a difference beyound pressure and stem lengh. No luck if you want to don't have to frankenswitch and hope to get something as good as Inks.
Would it be possible to cut off the bottom part of the mechanical switch housings (where the optical housing has the slit) so that it could act as an optical switch?
wait so lets say if i buy banana split switches and add the optical bottoms (from my gateron optical browns) it would become an optical switch and would be used in an optical keyboard?? just wondering bc i was pretty bummed knowing that my keyboard is only hot-swappable with optical and i really wanted to use mechanical switches.
@@SomethingAzn I just realized that you have the brown optical switches, that's why is still works. I just tried this out with the optical black switches and there literally isn't a leaf in there at all!
I didn't realize the linear opticals didn't come with leaves, so it might not be possible Maybe you can use the leaves from the akko, but you'd probably have to break them
Unfortunately not, you need the optical bottoms cause they have a small cutout at the bottom so that the switch poles can break the beam of light that actuates the keyboard

Ty, I’ve been wondering abt this topic for a while cuz I recently wanted to turn the bubble gum switch into a optical switch but wasn’t rly sure
Yeah, hope it works out for you!
any update? how did it turn out?

this is great I was gonna do this myself but this video is awesome, thanks
You can order u4t stems direct from gazzew if you are in the US. You just have to contact him on Reddit

I don’t think they do greens

Possibly?
You would probably also have to make the mechanical bottom flat or else it wouldn’t fit in the optical board.

Right, it's not exactly the same, but it's better than nothing
@@SomethingAzn okay! tysm!! any recommended switches that sound good and are able to fit on the opticals?
@@shiba9058 I stopped looking at recent switches (too many), so maybe just get a couple that you might like to try out instead of buying a full set
Since you don’t move the leaf, won’t the tactile switches turn linear??
You keep the leaves from the optical switches, so not the best but definitely not linear 👌

@@piediekai Oh wow, that’s wild. I know they can technically skip it for opticals, but I thought they’d keep it in to mimic the same feel
Wait so how would you turn a 5pin switch to an optical switch?
Same thing really.
Top: Regular switch
Stem: Regular switch
Bottom: Optical switch
i think this is a crime in the r/mk rules
is this possible to make a optical yellow mixed with and akko jelly switch because the yellows don't have leaves how do i do it then?

maybe cutting the bottom of the mechanical switch and removing the pins will work on optical keyboards, no?
