I've met Alex Chalk and admired him as a lawyer. What a shame that he's using his considerable skills in this way, defending barbaric policies instead of simply getting on and processing claims efficiently, so that those with a right to be here can start contributing (we have a LOT of job vacancies they could help to fill) and those with no right to be here can be sent home. It seems his ambition to climb the slippery pole outweighs his humanity.
Self before party, party before country. It's a common theme.
So they process the claims quicker.....and get refused...where do you suggest we deport them to????....there is a country ready and waiting to take them....I am so glad you think we should speed up the process so we can deport them!!!
In what way do they contribute ?
@@trytellingthetruth.2068 If you'd bothered to read what I wrote, they can contribute by taking some of the jobs employers are desperate to fill. That means they will pay taxes. In fact, they will pay more taxes than natives doing the same jobs as them because of the NHS surcharge. An immigrant doing the same job as you will actually be contributing more to this country than you do.
@@andreasstavrinides6980
Oh, the old "they'll pay more in tax than they take in benefits" argument.
If you think anyone that isn't sending their children to private schools or has private health insurance is paying more in tax and contributing to the governments coffers just because they're at work then you obviously have no understanding of how the tax system works.

If a tory ever tries to say their party should be taken seriously 10, 20, 50 years from now, we should play them this clip.
Corbyn was NOT the "most spectacularly unpopular leader of the Labour party". He came very close to winning a GE in 2017 with a massive increase in the Labour vote. I think among socialists you'll find Starmer is far less popular. JOB you decry the Tories but you helped undermine the genuine alternative to the Tories and now champion Starmer. Its a very disingenuous comment designed to make people think being a refugee is like being on holiday. How many people would like to go on holiday then spend most of their time in a their hotel room with no money, few possessions and no idea of when they'll ever get to leave.
I agree. When hate is focussed, it's a very dangerous thing.
Absolutely it just serves to demonise them. Like the assumption that they are uneducated and looking for economic advantage. Among the refugees there are doctors, lawyers, academics who have been forced to flee their country. Certainly the numbers seem to some as unacceptable but are well below in comparison with the numbers that Turkey, Germany, Spain and France accept. Last year in total in the EU 965,665 people claimed asylum. Instead of empathy they are happily blamed for underinvestment by successive governments going back to the 1980’s in areas such as housing, Healthcare, Infrastructure, education. The fact that people actually believe it is staggering

The other thing I point out with the hotels thing is that you'd think these asylum seekers were taking rooms that local people would have taken. As if they were wanting to stay in a hotel in a town where they live during the week...

These hotels havent taken government contracts out of the goodness of their hearts. They have clearly signed up to deals which GUARANTEE them more than they were making in the normal commercial market. Its another con. These hotels would all have been failing businesses because of Brexit, Covid and the cost of living crisis so a wee government bail out to house asylum seekers is lovely all round.
