Hello Carl. I was one of the members of the orchestra who played in the Grand Finals where Marcelito Pomoy won. In the first rehearsal, the orchestra literally stopped as we were looking for the female singer only to realize he was doing it. It took a while for the conductor to compose himself. A real talent. I never lose my knack to play for very very good singers and they are abound here in the Philippines. Amazingly, most do not have formal music training or coaching. It is just the passion and love for music that runs in their blood. Thanks

Awesome!! This performance is the perfect demonstration of how articulation and pitch can be controlled independently. He had poker face the whole time, if you muted the video you would never know when he was switching from high to low or visa versa. Amazing.

This is for real. Here in phil we hve contest in singing called "DOBLE KARA" which basically is singing in two voice. Contestants has to do a duet by himself/herself. They sing as a man and women at the same time.

it's experience, and the work they put their voices into that makes their voices likable.. the difference between someone who can just sing and someone who learned how to sing is obvious...sometimes it's their love for their singing that makes them different from just anybody..
Love your take on this amazing singer. You're so right that personality/soul/life experiences have so much to do with how people sing. His life story especially at such a young age not having parents to give him that moral support and protection made him fragile and at the same time conditioned him to be tough and face this hard life that, to me it comes out in his voice or voices. The first verses are just overload of tones/emotions that you have to pause it to apprehend and grasp everything. First time I've heard him sing this over a year ago I had to leave it be, since I just couldn't handle the emotion and richness of his voice. Just amazing.

Singing in both male and female registers are actually common here in the Philippines where we use the term or what we call it is "Doble kara"

Sitting down, never gasping for air, singing in two languages which are not his birth language, never a flawed note. Filipinos are famous for two-voice singing, but no one is better than Marcelito.

This is real .....man, he can perform it live on stage, i saw it already. This is one of a kind . And there are other Filipinos that sing like this, but Marcelito is in the highest quality with regards to female voice. Theres is no magic on this performance. I can bet on that.

He didnt go to any music school. Pomoy is a orphan and homeless before he auditioned to the contest to look for his family. His mom left him when he was a kid and his dad was in jailed. IN SHORT MARCELITO POMOY his TALENT IS A GIFT from GOD. It is A NATURAL AND PURE TALENT

The breath control is astounding that is for sure.
In opera you can’t release too much air coz’ you’ll ran out too soon but if you’re paying attention, he opens his mouth wider on the upper register. His natural voice is the high range! Also, that’s the song he sang when he won the “Philippines Got Talent.” The point is: he’s just gifted because he’s untrained. And lastly, that was recorded live “SITTING DOWN.” No recording tricks. 😳

Not everything in this world must be understood... you just have to relax and appreciate things like Marcelito... every1 is unique... every one is great in their own way.
So relaxed, so easy for him.
Then you need to hear him sing The Power of Love Beauty and the Beast then you understand his voice he's blessed he had a hard life growing up and he found his second voice at seventeen but he's a gift from God all the things he went through as a kid so he is very blessed and he has a beautiful voice

His native language is Tagalog. He sang in English and Italian! He’s been training for many years. He won “Philippine’s Got Talent”. He’s now around 32.
This talent actually is quite normal here in the PH. A lot of people do this esp in talent shows or contests but Marcelito, in my opinion, is the best at this.
This kind of performance is called “Doble Kara” which is roughly translated to “two-faced”.

I do believe we have some of the best singers, which is why we kind of have “higher standards” when it comes to singers bc we’re so used to those singers who belts. Lol.
Teachers would always demand methods, processes, technicality, techniques and all these fantastic things they think preludes to great output. On the other hand, educators encourage and appreciate talents and final products.

Marcelito is incredible and unique but that is because he was born with that talent ! He is simply a genius on what he is doing and that is what you are "missing" ,not the soul , not character ...a great example would be a little girl from Holland , Amira Willinghagen with " O mio babbino caro" . Just 9 years old (2014) sang like Maria Calas if not better . You get to be born like that , you cant learn that ! Great video and I liked that you know what are you talking about !!!

He had no formal training, just a talent.
He is unique and a voice so powerful and electrifying. How could somebody switched that easily from a male to female voice if he is lacking in brain? In my own opinion, Pomoy is a genius and one that is gifted to entertain and make a difference for himself and others too.
I like your honest opinion and analysis of his singing. Maybe one day, his own true singing voice doing his own thing would electrify you more to really say he is up there as a great singer.
