I have just begun to look at ignition on my 99 175 ocean pro….dies when I give it throttle under load if I hit the choke it will take off just fine. If I just go full throttle from idle it shoots off 80% of the time…I did the carbs, new VRO, new fuel lines/rectifier plugs…compressions solid runs like a beast at WOT….long story short man your videos have helped me a lot

Glad I helped! Sounds like a pickup or WOT timing issue. Is the timer base rotating freely?

@@MattsShop I have not even checked anything pertaining to timing or electrical because it just seemed like a fuel delivery issiue but I have checked all of those off the list. I’m going to investigate it soon

Great video thanks for the explanation. If you have a WOT issue is it generally a trigger issue as the cylinders aren't firing correctly. Or is it more of a fuel problem. Keep the vids coming. You have made a simple explanation.

I have a 1985 150hp, i have swapped Stator,timer, powerpacks, fuel pumps and still wont start but it cranks. Any tips vro?!!

You need to check for spark. Probably the kill switch circuit in they key.

Just had a power pack replaced and a tuneup on my 92 70hp Johnson two years ago July. There is less than 35 hrs on the new pack. I was guiding fishing with my sons just trying to hold on a rock hump at an idle. Suddenly without warning the engine just quit.
Any suggestions?

Got a question. I have a 1988 XP150 that has a miss on cyl one and five. Has spark. Has compression. Noticed with a timing light that number one timing is way out and so is number five. All others are correct. Do you think this could be the timer base

Which timing? The pickup timing or the WOT timing. The top two cylinders port/starboard are all that you care about when timing. Mainly clyinder 1.

Can I ground the safety switch out on a 1970 johnson 60hp? Not getting spark to any of the 3 cylinders. Coil tested out good

If you ground the safety switch, it'll ground the spark. I'd check the switch to. Make sure it's working right.

Have 90 model 150xp runs great on hose put in lake still sounds great but no power in forward but have full power in reverse can you please help great video very appreciated

i just boght a 1990 evinrude E120TLESB the compresion is 120 all over,,,, when put at high idle stays on but when set back to normal idle it shuts off can someone give me some advice WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM.....
