Awesome as ever! I think all new bikes should come with that new CDI system......a real leap forward in terms of reliability and simplicity.Much better than the old system that needs constant adjustment and replacing every five minutes.Where can I get your test light.... that really is BAD ASS!
no, but it is much easier to diagnose & repair. with points, you can see every part of the system and make adjustments or troubleshoot individual parts. This also gives you the ability to repair your bike's ignition on the side of the road with only a minimal set of tools. it kind of sucks when your motorcycle breaks down in the middle of the night when your on some dark country road in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone reception and creepy, foggy cornfields on both sides.. this is the type of mod that will save your ass from being stranded!!! and yes, I know that sounded suspiciously specific. :) and I know this is a old thread. but his question needed to be answered.
I have a brand new aftermarket CDI for my 1980 Suzuki GS450. I put on new coils as well. Engine ain’t even running yet and the CDI is getting hot. Any ideas? Regular was replaced with a new one probably 15 years ago but has seen very little mileage since.
Holding the spark plug is a fine way to get a nice shock. You were lucky this time, Ichiban. On the bright side, the shock tells you it's working. Heck, you don't even need a spark plug when you test it that way. :) Yesterday I realized there are a couple of sets of points in my electrical box. They're going to stay there too. You never know. Also it is kind of an old times' sake thing.
Next time you need to remove black epoxy, don't fight it with a match and cutting tool, just wait for a sunny day and use a fresnel lens from an old projection TV to burn it off. It takes badass to a whole new level!
I came here because i got honda rebel 125cc and it has no spark. Couldnt solve it myself. Sent it to shop they fixed it and it cost like 100 euros. In Latvia quite expensive since monthly AVG wage is about 500 eur. Then i run it for 1 day and it died again. Basically i turn it on it runs great and while warming up after 1 minute it died. And no spark. Then i took it to another shop and spent another 150 euros and it ran again. For a few days. Until same happened. I came in the morning to warm it up then it died. It's like it ate all the fuel from carb and died. But there is fuel. Thought it's cdi, but if cdi dies it stays dead. As much as i understand i took apart some stuff and checked wires and fuses. All good. (not 100% sure about wires) I am lost. Maybe you can help. P.S. Good luck with your channel! Subbed :)
