I'm a rancher and don't have the money to fix it .They wanted $99.00 just someone to come look at it. If there was a part involved the cost would've been more. THANK YOU . everyone needs to watch this.
I was convinced my dish was bad or cable was damaged from being submerged under water at my Marina, turns out idiots at marina had knocked dish out of alignment. Followed your video and fixed the problem. Can't say THANK YOU enough sir.
Had to adjust my dish after the roofers took it off and put it back on after putting my new roof on. Just had to make a couple adjustments to get signal back until the satellite guy can come back out and fine tune things. After watching the video, I had the confidence I could do it and it worked. Thanks again!
Just had Hardi-Plank installed on my house which required removal of dish. Was regretting calling AT&T ($99 service charge) to re-adjust for signal. Watched this video and started with 12%-15% signal strength. After 10-15 of adjustments, achieved 99% reception. Will probably have to do it again after new roof goes on next few weeks. But, will be easier this time. Thanks!
Thank you for identifying the location of the "new" single, lock-down bolt (1), for the azimuth fine-tuning adjustment, replacing the prior bolts (2), used on previous versions of DirecTV satellite dish, which nobody else thought to mention in many searches I made.
you rock! 2 weeks with spotty cable due to 771 signal loss...was at 85%. - fixed it with a broom (bad enough I was on the roof let alone being on a ladder on the roof). I only had one person but could hear beeping as signal strengthened - thank you!!!!
Big thanks. I'm in the middle of nowhere, would have been a week or 2 and $99 bucks to wait for a tech to come. Took me 5 minutes to make the adjustment myself. DANKE!
This video definitely helped me out! Maintenance came to my balcony today and messed up the signal on my satellite. Thankfully, your directions helped me, put that satellite back in the right direction. Thanks! 👏👏👏
Thanks! We had a new roof installed and when they put the dish back the signal was only 80%, i was able to get it to 98% in just a few minutes with my wife watching the signal meter on the tv and talking to me over the phone. ☆☆☆☆☆ 5-STARS for your help
This does WORK!!! save yourself the money as long as you can do it safely!! 10 mins and we were back with a 95% signal just in time to watch NFL Opening day 2019!!
Now that I have the system back on at 95% signal, it has recently started giving us the 771 signal loss message however, we still have a picture and can watch TV. Any tips on what I need to do now??
I had the one of first direct tv models and it came with a self installation kit that included a compass and instructions. I was surprised at how easy it was to install and align. Of course it's been replaced several times since then. We had strong winds tonight and currently getting no signal at all so in the morning I'm going to have to see If it was knocked out of alignment or if a branch did some damage. the roof was replaced a couple of months ago and I may not have tightened the bolts enough when I realigned it. It gets very windy here in west Michigan.
First get the Azimuth Compass for phone in Play Store ( if you don't have a meter.. Set to enlarged view, then hold the phone over the transponder level with the metal arm that attaches it to the satellite. I needed 186 degrees at my house, got it first try and got a 95 % signal. The elevation and tilt should be good if they were tightened all the way when tech first installed.
Some of the HD channels say searching for signal on satellite 2 always on satellite 2 standard def.channels are fine when I test the signal strength all of the transponders are are 95 or better except for #26 which is around 86. Do you think my issue is the dish needing a adjustment or a loose cable somewhere I have a multi switch that sat 1 and sat 2 come into from the dish and then out to my 7 receivers
What size pole is that - I have the same dish mount, but don't have access to measure the size of the pole I need. I hear people say 2" OD - but if I was purchasing a chain link fence top post.. What size would it be?
Mine is giving me a lot of issues. We had some strong rain storms come through with heavy wind. I’m thinking about realigning mine. My signal strength is in the gutter! A lot of 0’s and also some 42’s. Is this hard to do? I’m really terrified of doing this as I have no experience in this.
@RenovationsandRepair I'm at 97% on both tuners not on all sats. I have 2 recivers and its getting the same 771 on the same channels on both receivers . Thank you for your response
I only have one TV on one reciever. I did push the slace button it ask me to yes cancel or no don't cancel. Then it took me back to the view signal strength or repeat satellite set up. Where do I go?
I mysteriously lost all my channels to directv after att took over. First it was the higher...now it's everything. My signal strength is 76-78 on 2 satellites. The others are zero. I can only screw with it so much. (and btw, this was a GREAT tutorial) no offense but i don't wanna pay a tech after i pay over 100 a month to begin with. We haven't had tv signal in 2 weeks. I even cut my tree to see if that helped....and it didn't. I really don't think this is on my end anymore and trying to contact directv after att took over is a complete clusterfuck.
What if I have 95% signal strength and it’s still showing the 771 signal loss error code and I’ve checked all my cables and refreshed and restarted my boxes??
I was getting the 771 code seen this video so went to my dish at freaking night mind you I live in the country so I was already scared shitless lol I started with the three bolts on the post had the wife on the phone watching the TV and so I moved the dish to the right and nothing then to the left and boom I heard the beeping over the phone it was catching signal wife screaming omg 56 then I move it slightly back to the right stop right at 96 boom hit the sweet spot thank you so much saved me a service fee.
I’m connected on a commercial account and don’t have the account holders name. It’s been difficult to get my service to stay on because it’s not connected to the same dish as everyone’s in the building. I keep getting 31-12-45 or 015a. I don’t know where the dish is located at.
I have the same Genie SR44 receiver but only showing 1 tuner, when I put it to 5 and close it out then open it back up it changes back to 1? Any ideas? Thanks
treyh007 most likely just call dtv and get them to drop ship you a new dvr. If you have the HR44 try and get the hr54. If it keeps turning to one Tuner it's going to be a lnb or internal issue.
SearchingforSignalLLC ok thanks, they just sent me this box as a replacement from having signal trouble, I was able to move my dish up a lil and got a lot better signal, hurricane Harvey winds must have pushed it down some. A tech is scheduled to come over this weekend so I'll talk to him about the new model receiver and the 5 tuner issue. Thanks for the help! This stuff gets frustrating. Lol
it depends on if the dish network recievers were connected to the internet or not. if they were then dish (or Directv) can look and see which software updates the recievers were able to get. that would be really the only track record of how long those recievers were active with a signal from the satellite. if her recievers were not connected to the Internet for software there really isn't any full proof way of proving she wasn't using those recievers. sorry
l.m. Getz that means the satellite is not getting power. The l.n.b. on the dish needs 21 volts to receive signal. 775 means there is no power getting to the dish. if you have a hr54 genie dvr or a h44 genie lite reciever. those recievers power the dish from their location. if you do not have one of those 2 recievers you will need to look for a small black box with a green light (may not be plugged in so no light). that bod is usually behind another reciever in the house of in line to the satellite feed say in a basement or near the directv splitter. If the whole time the dish wasn't powered then their wouldn't be any updates. I'm pretty sure the reciever keeps track of no service. I'll for diagnostic reason. I'll look into it
It is working great now that she has a Satellite hooked up. I'm just saying that I don't get how dish could charge her for cable when she didn't even have the ONE thing Dish uses for service. I feel she got scammed and they don't want to her back the $80.00+ tax for premium channels that she never got to utilize
This is not totally true. You get 101 tuned in just like he says but then you will need to fine tune for the 99 and 98 satellites as well if you want all your hi def channels.
7 years later and this video is still saving people service calls! Thank you!
You are welcome!
I moved my dish horizontally ever so slightly.2 or 3 degrees and it fixed all my issues.cant believe how sensitive they are.thanks for the video
I'm a rancher and don't have the money to fix it .They wanted $99.00 just someone to come look at it. If there was a part involved the cost would've been more. THANK YOU . everyone needs to watch this.

I have never seen this more easily explained. Thanks, 5 minutes and I went from ~60 to 96 and saved a unnecessary service fee.
You're welcome

this is I love RUclips waiting three days for a tech, and this video fix it in 10 mins. THANK YOU
I can't say thank you enough! My daughter threw something and hit our dish and the signal was gone! Back to 99%! Thank you!
Jennifer M. no problem
Jennifer M. where u stay at I'll fix it for free
This worked. Fixed our signal after getting a new roof. Thanks so much!

Great job on the video, DIRECTV told me a week and half to get a tech to fix my tv after the hurricane. With this video fixed in 25 min
Awesome!! Thank you. I was able to realign my dish after having my roof replaced. I really appreciate your video tutorial.
This video definitely helped me out! Maintenance came to my balcony today and messed up the signal on my satellite. Thankfully, your directions helped me, put that satellite back in the right direction. Thanks! 👏👏👏

Thank you for uploading this very helpful video!!! Saved us money and we could fix it ourselves!!! Much appreciated Sir.
You're welcome
Thank you!
From storm swept northwest Texas.
Thank you for making the effort to help others, now we can watch the news .
Awesome video! We were able to fix our signal after new roof installation. Thank you so much!!
Thank you much I have waited 2 weeks for Directv to come could not wait any longer you saved me a bunch of money
Thanks for the info! I aligned mine in less than 20 minutes with your help!
Thanks! You just saved me 100 bucks! Turns out my satellite was just a bit tipped off
Thank you! You saved me god knows how long waiting on a tech and a 99 dollar service fee! If you're ever in south Mississippi I owe ya a beer!
olemissfan81 you are welcome thanks for the view
i was able to fix my issue thanks to this video. Thank you very much very helpful.

You saved Thanksgiving. Thanks so much for your help!
Bryan Hegseth no problem hope it holds up for you.
Thank you sir for your wisdom just fixed my grandparents.
Thank you so much for the dish alignment video! Very helpful!
You are welcome
Agreed, unless purposely changed, the elevation is likely OK, it's the azimuth that probably needs adjustment. TY.
Your 5 minutes plus my 3 minutes = Got it. Thanks. Simple enough.....🍀
Thanks bro! Fixed my own dish tonight!
Thanks for the info! Helped with my sl3 dish!
This is a great video. Saved me time and money. Thank you sir.
Thank you, saved a service call after having my roof redone!
Thank you so much. Roofers came so got to align my sat back!
Giant THANKS man! Sincerely appreciative.

Thank you, easy and helpful sir!
Great video man! Well explained. My signal (771) goes out when it rains hard. I'll give this a try most of my numbers are in 90s but a few are 60s
Nice explanation, but you might do another video showing an actual adjustment being done? Thank you!
Awesome thanks for the video. Huge help!
Thanks for your video! It sure helped us.
You're welcome

Adjusted mine and have 90s on most signals but there are still couple 0s popping up and it's affecting channels. Any idea?
Replace the lnb
@@RenovationsandRepair Can get those anywhere?
@@RenovationsandRepair I have an sl3 lnb. Does it have to be that exact lnb?
Thankfully I’ve never had to fix a dish with having cable from a company and not having to deal with fixing dish angles or bad weather issues .
On my dish mount there is a 0 then hashes to the left and right of it for the left/right adjustment. How is that read?
Mine is giving me a lot of issues. We had some strong rain storms come through with heavy wind. I’m thinking about realigning mine. My signal strength is in the gutter! A lot of 0’s and also some 42’s. Is this hard to do? I’m really terrified of doing this as I have no experience in this.
Im getting error code 771 on certain channels, tuner strength is 97% . What the hell is wrong with my system? Thanks for any info.
Are you at 97% on all sats and tuners? If so you may need to replace your LNB.
Is it on all receivers or just one?
@RenovationsandRepair I'm at 97% on both tuners not on all sats. I have 2 recivers and its getting the same 771 on the same channels on both receivers . Thank you for your response
It worked! Thank you so very much 💖
Good Video, fixed my error code 771
Thank you, no need for a service call now.
Thank you sir! Save me a $100 service call!!
You're welcome.
Great vid. I love youtube!

You may need a new lnb if your singles are crap and there is no line of sight issues.
Thank you thank you thank you....it really worked..!
I need 55* elevation
The elevation bolt doesn’t have a pointer I see the numbers but were does it coincide with the correct #
Thank you for this video, your a life saver
Hoped it helped
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Life saver.
How do u level the mast?
So if u live in front a school how do u get singel
What if I have 95% signal strength and it’s still showing the 771 signal loss error code and I’ve checked all my cables and refreshed and restarted my boxes??
Lnb, swap boxes, check splitters
I was getting the 771 code seen this video so went to my dish at freaking night mind you I live in the country so I was already scared shitless lol I started with the three bolts on the post had the wife on the phone watching the TV and so I moved the dish to the right and nothing then to the left and boom I heard the beeping over the phone it was catching signal wife screaming omg 56 then I move it slightly back to the right stop right at 96 boom hit the sweet spot thank you so much saved me a service fee.
Good to hear man!!
What if the pole is out of the ground though, arc hit it wasn’t bad just bumped it but the pole was sideways leaning
I’m connected on a commercial account and don’t have the account holders name. It’s been difficult to get my service to stay on because it’s not connected to the same dish as everyone’s in the building. I keep getting 31-12-45 or 015a. I don’t know where the dish is located at.
Now it jumped to 31-11-45 or 015a
so how do I know where to point it given I'm at the other end of the us? (Arizona)
Azimuth is same. ~212°
Elevation will be higher since you are further south. My guess is around 44-47°.
I have the same Genie SR44 receiver but only showing 1 tuner, when I put it to 5 and close it out then open it back up it changes back to 1? Any ideas? Thanks

So what does it mean if I have 97% connection and almost all numbers on screen before are in 90s?
I had high hopes! but it didn't work. The transponders are all zero and the tuner stayed at "not acquired" --never got any signal.
what is the status of your dish? was it hit or roofing company moved it ect?
thank you
Maybe next time try actually pointing the camera at what you're talking about when you said left right so on and so on
Which satellite are you tuning in? 101 or does it matter?
101 is in the center. The 99 and 103 are your HD programming
Awesome! Very helpful!
Thank You, Thank You
Your welcome
Thanks!
Making your dish level on a mast I believe you mean to say "plumb" which is straight up and down
Thanks.
This was literally my first video ever!
Do you work for Direct Tv or did you work for any satellite companies? I have a question if you have!
yes I do. sorry for the late response.

Have all 0’s what do I do ?
SAME!

NICE!
This is not totally true. You get 101 tuned in just like he says but then you will need to fine tune for the 99 and 98 satellites as well if you want all your hi def channels.
Thanks roofers move dish
Between ur video and a different one I got 97
Nice. That will get you some TV signal.
At least make your videos in landscape mode
Great elevation
