Hello hello my new favorite couple, my wife and I have been watching all of your videos and we are loving the great job you two have done. We are now learning more about the city as we intend to study at NBCC, and this video was special, thank you very much. We hope that one day, we can buy a house with you, see you later.
Greetings from Kentucky! I studied electronics at NBCC from 1977-79, so this video was a trip down memory lane. It's amazing how much the campus has grown in the past 45 years!
You're welcome. It was not our favorite video to make since it's not one of the prettier areas of the city, but I know it was important to many viewers.
Yes, unfortunately with closed provincial borders, it may as well be a million miles. Here's to the reopening of the Atlantic bubble, it can't come soon enough.
I grew up in Highmeadow Park which is the Townhouse complex at the corner of McAllister and Loch Lomond and I can tell you that there was never a smell from the refinery. We moved there from the West Side because we couldn't stand the sulfur smell from the pulp mill. That has since been cleaned up as well. My husband and I love driving all over the city when we get home for a visit.
Thank you for your comments and confirmation. I think both the refinery and mill appear a lot more intimidating on the videos than they are in real life. I have heard the horror stories about smells from the past but they are long gone. When we moved here, we had a blank slate and the whole Maritimes to choose from for our home. Saint John quickly became an obvious choice and the refinery and mill were, and still are, complete non-issues.
Champlain Heights was built in the late 50's, we moved in April 1958 at the newest section at that time. The lower section was complete by then. The School had been built and was used, Champlain Drive was extended in the mid 60's and then the construction continued. It was nice to see my parents old home and I recall the houses on Champlain Drive with all the original owners names and their offspring.
Well, that's an interesting idea. I know that in many parts of the world adding GPS coordinates is pretty standard, but people here don't use them. For this video, I mentioned the the mall and the streets which if typed into Google would open up a map of the area. I think it might confuse most Canadians if I start spouting off long GPS coordinates.
We will try to do that at some point. In the meantime, check out the north end, Millidgeville, Rockwood park part two video where we at least drive by and mention where UNB is located.
I don't know if somebody mentioned it but the area you said was pretty right after you got on to Champlain drive was an old gravel pit. Lots of trails and atv paths. Also when I grew up there good shortcuts if you're on foot.
@@WeLoveSaintJohn yea I can see the difference, although, there aren't many videos of Moncton to compare. That's how I came across your channel. I'm enjoying St. John so far though. I love your conversation, feel like I'm on the back seat each time you two go for a drive.
I love your videos, I will be attending nbcc in January 2022 and I wanted to know about housing. Is it easy to get housing. Also can you please suggest how and where we can search for student housing
Hello and thank you. If you join our Facebook group there is a link to a rental site. You could also contact NBCC directly to inquire about housing. Colleges usually have their own resources for that type of thing. Rentals are not difficult to find in Saint John.
Thank you guys for the information, However, may you tell me if is possible get used to riding by motorbike at NB- Canada? Greetings from Bogota-Colombia
What's the name of the road close with the apartments close to the end of the video? I am interested in that area for next fall as an International student not sure if Wendy would be able to assist with that.
Unfortunately, realtors don't deal with rentals in this area. Do join our facebook group though: We Love Saint John. There are useful rental resources there. Ithink the street you are referring to is Heather Way.
@@WeLoveSaintJohn I am already apart of the Facebook group. I would love Wendy to find an apartment that is close to NBCC for me when the time comes. Isn't that the area where Park place apartments and Regency towers are?
@@monsieurtalent9715 we have noticed an unpleasant odor at times when we are right next to it. We did not notice any odor when making the video but we weren't really all that close, and as Wendy mentioned, it will depend on which way the wind is blowing.

So can you plz elobrate me how the ground situation is be for a student and how its majorly in nbcc st.john campus OR else i moved towards ontario in Brampton city in Sheridan college? Plz give your suggestions it will be imp for me!!
Brampton is a big city with no character, and connected to the huge city of Toronto. The cost of living is very high there, but it's also very multicultural. Saint John is a small city with a lot of character, and very friendly people. Where you should go depends on what you are looking for.
@@WeLoveSaintJohn means if i come there in st.john how would be the situation for me as student climate, part time jobs , cost of living would i survive there easily by earning $11 per hour .?
@@manav_desai05 Getting a job might be a little easier in Brampton, but surviving on minimum wage is easier in Saint John. They are very different cities. I have spent some time in Brampton and did not like it at all, while I love Saint John. But everyone is different. If you want to be near the action of Toronto, go to Brampton. If you want a peaceful lifestyle among friendly people, come to Saint John. I do think that if your goal is to immigrate to Canada, it might be easier in Saint John. However, I am no expert on immigration.
@@WeLoveSaintJohni am frankly saying i am more about nbcc coz the fees is low main thing , in Sheridan its 75% more fees .Both the cities would be new for me so in my view both are good . There are two major industries in Saint John, the refinery in the east and the pulp mill in the west. Generally, there is nothing to notice about either of them other than the big steam exhaust stacks. Unless you are living right beside one of them, you will rarely smell anything. Saint John is a city with almost constant fresh ocean and river breezes that aid in dissipating most of the odours from both of these facilities. I would be dishonest if I said I had never noticed an odour, but it is wind dependant and so rare and faint that it is a non-issue. I completely understand the question, based on the way these places appear in the videos but they have little to no effect on the air quality or smell of the city. You will likely smell the ocean far more than you smell either of these industries.

You should take a trip out to Loch Lomond, second lake and third lake up by Baxter’s corner great fishing and wonderful views

Is it true that because of the refinery some days there will be a bad odour in our Saint John?
