Thoughts on the call at 2:26?
At first I thought it was attack (left) parry riposte (right) : point right.
But re-watching it, it seems clear that Spiesz's arm is straight while Tori's arm is slightly bent. Therefore I agree with the call : counterattack (right) parried, riposte/contretemps (left) : point left.
Seem fine to me
What was the call exactly? I think I hear the ref say “riposte,” which seems to check out if the full sequence was attack no, counterattack (into the guard), then parry+riposte??
Counterattack parried/beat is low. It's a downwards clockwise sweep against a lefty who is in a half 5 position. No chance for a clean beat there. Good call
The ghost of Anstett!
i feel bad for the hungarian fencer spiesz as well
Great comeback. But feel bad for the Hungarian girl too

How is it not 90% "simultanée pas de touche"?
I can see that for several of then there are clear arm extensions from left for an attack in prep, buuuutt... there are definitely some head scratchers in there as well.
From what I heard the way they ref these nowadays are by looking at the center of the space between both fencers, and whoever attacks first is judged by who “intrudes” the empty space earlier. Basically looking at the timing of acceleration rather than outright speed.
So someone that lunges with arm extension at the same time could be called preparation if the opponent goes extension-lunge, even if the lunge came out visibly slower. Because the extension arm will visibly intrude the space earlier.
This also favors putting your arm down from Allez because it looks will look like the start of an extension even if you’re just bringing it back up to be ready for parries, you can see the fencers in this video being a great example. FotL’s attack starts when she’s bringing her hand back up from under to forward even when she’s still looking at what to do, but FotR’s hands being already forward will only be counted as attack when she committed. This gave FotL a massive advantage in timing.
Most notable example of doing this would be Pianfetti, he always drops his hand down low from Allez and swings it forward on advance before actually deciding to parry or transition it into a thrust.
@@EstellammaSS I've never heard of that. Can someone else confirm this? The calls seem to be made based on who first extends their arm.
why does the hungarian girl got a mask with reversed egyptian colors ???
It's red white green. Hungarian flag
why are the egyptian colours the reverse of the hungarian colours? must be a conspiracy ... to reuse colours. maybe these countries were separated at birth? and one of them is upside down?
@@the_obvious8336Egyptian colours are red white black. Hungarian is red white green
@@krunkja my bad green look like black
