I guess I should have mentioned that you dispose of the toilet contents by dumping it in a plastic bag (biodegradable bags are available) and put it in a dumpster like a big diaper. Nuff said.
Peat moss bought in a bail is so dry it repels water until it sits to soak up liquid, it’s great for my bucket toilet, get it in the garden area, it is cheap and lasts a long time. It’s easy to haul around because it’s compressed. Coconut coir works good too, comes in small compressed bricks but cost more. Bales of animal bedding, which is wood shavings can be bought at a feed store cheap. They sell toilet seats that snap on a 5 gallon bucket and it’s lid snaps shut, in the camping section. Have a great trip !!!
The animal bedding is a great suggestion. Made just for the purpose! Major problem with peat moss, aside from repelling moisture for too long, is that it's not a renewable resource. Sawdust, we got.
Horse-y girl here, suggesting instead of buying those expensive (by comparison) animal bedding packages for small animals, spend $6-$7 on a large, 3 cu. ft. compressed, bale of pine shavings you can buy at Agway or Tractor Supply for horse bedding. Just scoop some out in a bag or a small tub to take with you, and if you don't use it all and want it out of the way, use it to kindle a fire, as mulch, etc. On a bare stall, two bales shaken out makes a nice deep bedding, so there is a lot in one. AND - Kudos for being the first people I've seen who are smart enough to use shavings or sawdust as 'bedding'. All horse folks know that with shavings, stalls don't smell like pee. With straw, you have absorbancy, but it stinks. Great job with your videos!
Always glad to see you two making another video. No matter what a person does, you have to put the time in to see what works and what doesn’t. You two have got it down pat. You two have definitely got the spirit of adventure in your blood. Take care
Good to see that you are off to warmer climates. Like the improvements in the rear of your SUV, especially how you made it to hold your small stove. Definitely more stable and safer than those small stands they typically come with. You all be safe, soak up some Vitamin D and enjoy the warmer temps. I'll get there yet. Not this year, but I'm making plans for next winter, if the good Lord keeps me around that long.
Love your videos. Opti Idle is a smart idling system that was used in Semi trucks when I used to drive them. It was quite common. The truck would idle for heating and cooling purposes. It would also start up to protect the engine if the truck was not in use. As for the toilet I built a toilet for my truck years ago and customised it to fit in a closet space. When I moved into my cargo carrier camper I customized it again a little and it is totally hidden. No smells and easy to access. It is a wood box. It has such a strong lid it can be used as a step stool or seat. Inside the lid is another lid. Inside that is a cut down regular bucket. When the internal lid is closed there is a steel removable sheet of steel which seals the hole. The regular toilet seat with its lid holds it in place. Then the strong main lid comes down. It just looks like a box with a a carpeted lid at that point. I use a mixture of Tractor Supply wood pellets and ordinary kitty litter. Both very cheap and last a long long time. Inside the bucket I use 2 plastic supermarket shopping bags one inside the other. They then go inside the bucket. The "handles" and the tops of the bags fold over the top of the bucket. Everything is trapped by the lid and sealed with the steel plate. To empty I lift the handles up, snip the sides of the bags and tear them down a bit. They are then tied up and placed in the garbage. Been using this method for 14 years and I have never had a problem.

Sure does. It is what we use for our bucket toilet. We also line our bucket with a plastic bag prior to using it. Put the plastic bag in. A little base of kitty litter and there you go.
That's what we use. We have both the Reliance Luggable Loo and their hassock style. Had the latter for many years, used for camping and when the well pump or power fails due to storms. Well hello Christy and Brian! Yes, it would have been very nice to have spent some time visiting. We stayed one night back behind where we met and then headed for the Ajo area. We're not going back to Montana anytime soon... At least that's our plan.
I love the Galley addition. I have something similar for my tools, I cut strips of Teflon cutting boards and use them for slides. i have one drawer that's probably 150lbs and it slides like greased lightning. Also a bit of paste wax will help. just a suggestion. Regards, Bruce, from The Blue mountains Ontario Canada
Thanks again. Linda's lucky to have such a handy guy. Stayed in Bullhead City some years ago. Visited Quartzsite. Weather's a changin... but still nicer than snow and ice.
My wife and I really enjoy your videos. They are so informative. When we saw this one we were in Craggy Wash. Would have been nice to share a pot of coffee ☕ under the night sky.
We do something similar in our 6x12 but, no pun intended, we have started using pelletized horse bedding from Tractor Supply in the bucket. Works great! Come on over to Big Bend National Park about the first week in March and check out the desert bluebonnets and stuff with us...😁 We also did similar drawers in the bed of the pickup. Don't know how we did without them for all those years...
Man that drawer system is NICE! Well done. Thanks for sharing the info on what works well in the toilet as well. Stay warm We hope to be down in AZ or TX next winter.
Your kitchen setup is great. I just built a similar single drawer for my C Sharps in my truck bed.👍🏻 Your stove setup is slicker than snot on a doorknob!
i could use one of those jump start boxes, I have a van with an intermittent parasitic draw I have not figured out yet. Nice drawer setup, the natural wood looks good. The Yukons are nice trucks. Stay safe warm and healthy guys
Parasitic draws are very difficult to nail down. They are often switches (mechanical or electronic) that have started leaking-by. This could be from a number of causes, but can become a huge nuisance. Of course, some vehicle electronics remain "on" even when the engine is off and over long periods of no operation will drain the battery. I guess this doesn't help, even though I started the reply with the intention of helping. Sorry!
@@billywills4391 Usually in the rust belt were I live it turns out to be a rear wiper that tries to repark the blade when it does not register that it is parked because of rust, but since it is parked already it heats up the wiper motor and runs the battery down. I have used a thermal scanner gun to find some, this one just never does anything when you try to look for it. It also will be if it sits for a week or more before it seems to run it down. I have taken to removing fuses and leaving things like the rear wiper fuse and tow connection fuses out to see if it does it again.
@@badgerpa9 That's good info. It gives me something else to look for and I didn't think about the thermal scanner. Great idea! Well, good luck with your investigation.

Great ideas to make traveling more convenient. Your voice and intontion reminds me slightly of the late Tony Dean from South Dakota who hosted a popular oudoor program for years. Very easy to listen to.
So much good info in one video! Your new kitchen setup is great! And I just bought one of those car battery chargers...haven't used it yet so I appreciate Linda demonstrating how easy it is to use. It's nice to see and hear more of Linda, btw. Thanks for showing your toilet setup as well, it's exactly what I want to do. Just wondered though if that funnel is a big enough target for the lady of the house? Thanks for the great video!
You two are awesome 😍🤣 I shared your channel to a FB womans van dwelling group last weekish, (even tho I'm in a F150 with a shell they like me anyways😉). Its mostly, not all but mostly, 40ish 50ish & up type people's. Full and part timers. You are much liked 😃 Keep up the great vids and thanks for sharing ☮❤🕉
You and Linda are my heroes! The toilet idea is great. Love the kitchen update drawer and table.. Can you put together a video of Linda's preferences on cookware? And what you pack for a week or more kitchen and food. I bet Linda is the best cook. . This year I'm counting on a cargo trailer conversion.. What would you do different if you built another trailer? Thanks !!
Hello Gail, thank you for a great suggestion for a video on Linda's cooking kit. WE have talked about whether or not we would like a bigger cargo trailer, but because of the back roads we always travel we decided that the 6x10 was just the right size. Cargo trailers are very easy to update and modify and we've been doing that right along. I already have a "to do" list for this spring that includes improved storage and seating, curtains, better lighting, some fresh interior paint and another roof mounted solar panel. Oh, here's kind of a biggie; I want to have TWO propane bottles on the front because I'm tired of worrying about how full the single one is and if we're going to run out at an inopportune time or not. I think that's number one priority right now.
@@gonagain Yes! Having enough heat when you need it is important. I followed the link to get the battery jump device. I forgot the actual name. But the discount coupon was great! Thank you for that! Good luck with that list!
We use cedar chips with bag in it for easy clean up. We were looking into those chargers when seen on another video channel, but we may get through you now. 😄 Love your galley on the back of your vehicle. Great job 👍
Thanks for watching Lynda. Those little jump starters can save you in a pinch. I started a ladies car the other day in a grocery store parking lot. She took a picture of the power pack so she could order one. I actually have three different ones and they all work, but this one is has the best features so far.
Aloha Makalapua Megs. Look back to my earlier videos for "My Favorite Little Camp Stove" (or a title close to that) and I show the details of that stove modification.
Fun video with good tips. I get sawdust from Home Depot. Just go back to where they cut wood at the rear of the store with a couple of 12 gal garbage bags and they give it to me free. I'm sure the other box stores would accommodate too. You might consider making a top for the drawer on the left to double the countertop. Also make a hiding place behind the drawers for ammo, guns, etc.
I also made the same drawers in my truck and they slide on carpet, But, if you place those plastic disks under the drawer from home depo it will pull out so much easier. steve
I know this is an older video,,,I like the drawers In the tow vehicle,,,If you go out without trailer and need rain/bug shelter to use the kitchen look at a product call tail veil,,,as clever as you are you most likely build you own,,Best Regards

Another great video, Rick (and Linda). Looks like you are doing well. Like your drawers, if carpet works let it be... I've seen some drawer units in 4Runner videos that have the standard side rails, pull out/push in with one finger. Thanks for update on solar. I have added 2 100 watt panels on our new micro Minnie winnie but have not changed batteries to lithium or added an inverter yet. Assume you have one for 120v stuff, what did you get? We don't need a lot of 120 but some would be nice when boondocking.
For 120v I either use a small inverter (150watt) for my laptop or we use the Jackery 1000. Our needs are small. I like the carpet slider because my drawers don't bang around on rough roads. I got the idea from another off road guru.
In semi's there is a thing called opti idle, which is controlled off the steering wheel by the driver. It will start and stop according too the desired temp the driver set it at. Can use it for ac or heat. It charges the semi's battery system as well. You should be able too Google different designs of it.
Rick.....we love your videos!!!. Your voice is calming, your wife is charming, pictures and music is wonderful. I'm just a bit curious....paper plates??? We use $tree plates, cups and rinse when we clean our pots. We were just in quartzite ...yuma area. Keep the videos coming. Peace🤙🤙
Hello Kevin, it's just more convenient while traveling not to have to wash dishes, not to mention the lack of available water. My fault because I'm usually the one who gets to wash.
Great tips! I know you said there wasn't any but if anyone's worried about odors from this type of toilet just pick up a bottle of ultra-concentrate orange rv toilet deodorizer. A teaspoon sized drop is likely all you'll need. I really like the new kitchen set up. That hole for the stove is such a great idea. Takes up much less space than a big camp stove too. I think I may have to look at switching to that kind of set up. Any recommendations for a good single burner stove? That seems to be a little more substantial than the single burners I remember seeing. What did you use for the metal thimble through the counter? I always look forward to your videos. Have fun out there and stay safe!
We've used both the Coleman brand and the Walmart Ozark Trail brand stoves and they're both ok. For the sheet metal i just used some of the leftover metal from cutting holes for the windows of our trailer.
Than you for watching our videos, Carole. You must be a very capable and strong person, out there in the desert! You probably have a lot you could teach others.

Funny- your bathroom system is a lot like ours. But we use a porta potty for #1. And kitchen trash bags in the bucket are a lot easier for the clean up IMO.
_That is almost the exact same thing I do, bucket with cedar bedding and cat litter. But, I'm high class for my piss! : ) I use a transmission funnel with a 45º silicone piece that goes right into a one-gallon water jug! I agree; I'm not trying to read a novel. Do your thing and go! I might have to hook up my cargo trailer and come down to meet you two in person. : )_

Great little set up.
I love the Galley addition. I have something similar for my tools, I cut strips of Teflon cutting boards and use them for slides. i have one drawer that's probably 150lbs and it slides like greased lightning. Also a bit of paste wax will help. just a suggestion.

Thanks for those tips Bruce, the drawers are a little heavy for Linda.
Great job on the kitchen!
Thanks again. Linda's lucky to have such a handy guy. Stayed in Bullhead City some years ago. Visited Quartzsite. Weather's a changin... but still nicer than snow and ice.
That's right and at least we can get out and move around down here.
My wife and I really enjoy your videos. They are so informative. When we saw this one we were in Craggy Wash. Would have been nice to share a pot of coffee ☕ under the night sky.
Next time Chris!
Fun video Rick. Thank you for sharing and stay safe
Sure miss you guys!
@@gonagain I'm sure our paths will cross again one of these days. We will look forward to it. Have a great week and say hi to Linda for us.
We do something similar in our 6x12 but, no pun intended, we have started using pelletized horse bedding from Tractor Supply in the bucket. Works great! Come on over to Big Bend National Park about the first week in March and check out the desert bluebonnets and stuff with us...😁
We also did similar drawers in the bed of the pickup. Don't know how we did without them for all those years...
I'll look for those pellets to try. We'd love to see the bloom down there.
Man that drawer system is NICE!
Well done.
Thanks for sharing the info on what works well in the toilet as well.
Stay warm
We hope to be down in AZ or TX next winter.
You're going to love being down this way! We need to go back home soon and I'm not looking forward to it, but we'll return here in April
I like the simple toilet
Ingenious stove setup! Love it
Thanks! 👍
Your kitchen setup is great. I just built a similar single drawer for my C Sharps in my truck bed.👍🏻 Your stove setup is slicker than snot on a doorknob!
I like the idea of a special Sharps drawer!
i could use one of those jump start boxes, I have a van with an intermittent parasitic draw I have not figured out yet. Nice drawer setup, the natural wood looks good. The Yukons are nice trucks. Stay safe warm and healthy guys
Thanks Badger!
Thank you, for creativity. So glad I found you two. We want to get back on the road we have a pop-up. Move up from tenting. Ford Expedition got rear ended. Still trying to save to get another. Granddaughter still asking when are we going. Please keep making these informative videos. God Bless and Keep Safe. Trish 4/4/2021. Happy Easter.
Thank you Trish!
Thanks for sharing how you take care of your business. I also like your setup in the back of the Yukon. I'm planning something similar for my Tahoe I just can't decide if I want to remove the 3rd seat or not. Thanks again for sharing and safe travels.
Howdy Rick, Hello Linda, Ya Made It!!! Gone from the Cold Back to some Heat. Good. I Hope to see you at the Festival, Still not sure if I should break-away from 'building'?? (Many supplies Needed are 'Out of Stock') I like the Groovy Kitchen Set-Up you designed. Clever. Also, I'm going to Git Me One, That 'Jump Start Pak'. Can't Believe I haven't been carrying one. OK, Be Safe & God Bless ✌🤗 🌠
Erik, we'll be back in Quartzsite for the Big Tent sometime after the 16th.
Great ideas to make traveling more convenient. Your voice and intontion reminds me slightly of the late Tony Dean from South Dakota who hosted a popular oudoor program for years. Very easy to listen to.
I flew volcano tours in Hawaii for years and learned to speak gently so as not to get anyone alarmed.
Great Idea on the Composting Toilet!! Thanks for sharing Your idea's with Us.
Our pleasure Missouri Traveler!
Very good drawer system I think
Thanks Dutch.
We use cocoa core and cedar shavings. Works great
.
.always here to help.
She hits it most of the time, lol!
@@gonagain LOL
You two are awesome 😍🤣 I shared your channel to a FB womans van dwelling group last weekish, (even tho I'm in a F150 with a shell they like me anyways😉). Its mostly, not all but mostly, 40ish 50ish & up type people's. Full and part timers. You are much liked 😃 Keep up the great vids and thanks for sharing ☮❤🕉
Hello Macgyver Sharon, thanks for sharing our channel!
Thats a very nice design in the drawer setup, you should do a build video
Love love love the food galley!
Mahalo!
Good video, thank you, nice work on the cabinets. Looking forward for your quartsite videos.
More on the way Ken!
Linda is funny. Appreciate your vids.
Thanks Robert.
Love your stove setup. Safe Travels!
Thanks Dorai!
Nice job on the kitchen!
Thanks Glen!
Great tips. So practical.
Lots of good tips in the comment section too Geri.
sounds like an underwood generator. good idea on the pooper.
hood
It's actually a jump starter and will start your engine even if the battery is removed from the circuit. Pretty amazing for such a small device.
Good stuff, cheers on the coffee, be well out there!
Great kitchen set up!
Raised my kids in the valley. I know that area well and was hoping you would move to the overlook. Good in a pinch.
We always end up at the overlook and were just there before it got hot. Nice area. Thanks for watching Fae!
This is another excellent video! Thank you both. Hoping to meet you two one of these days!
That would be nice Marcelle.
BE BLESSED
We use cedar chips with bag in it for easy clean up.
We were looking into those chargers when seen on another video channel, but we may get through you now. 😄
Love your galley on the back of your vehicle. Great job 👍
Thanks for watching Lynda. Those little jump starters can save you in a pinch. I started a ladies car the other day in a grocery store parking lot. She took a picture of the power pack so she could order one. I actually have three different ones and they all work, but this one is has the best features so far.
Ty for sharing & much cheaper than kitty litter.
Great video and love the stove idea. Would love the spects of fittings used as have the same stove and worry about tipping.
Aloha Makalapua Megs. Look back to my earlier videos for "My Favorite Little Camp Stove" (or a title close to that) and I show the details of that stove modification.
@@gonagain mahalo😀
Fun video with good tips.
I get sawdust from Home Depot. Just go back to where they cut wood at the rear of the store with a couple of 12 gal garbage bags and they give it to me free. I'm sure the other box stores would accommodate too. You might consider making a top for the drawer on the left to double the countertop. Also make a hiding place behind the drawers for ammo, guns, etc.
Those are good ideas Jim, thank you.
Thank you!
Clever galley setup!
I also made the same drawers in my truck and they slide on carpet, But, if you place those plastic disks under the drawer from home depo it will pull out so much easier. steve
Nice idea Steve and I have room for them.
@@gonagain big difference
Great idea thank you
I know this is an older video,,,I like the drawers In the tow vehicle,,,If you go out without trailer and need rain/bug shelter to use the kitchen look at a product call tail veil,,,as clever as you are you most likely build you own,,Best Regards
Thanks for the tip! I went to their website and checked them out, pretty cool.
always another great vid thanks for info im headed to AZ next week also MT has not been bad so far but we are needing some sunshine and fresh air
I keep waiting for the sub zero spell we always get...
Well such a great idea I love what you are doing, that is what I want to do I stil have hope
I hope you can Laura.
@@gonagain well I have a small hi low travel trailer and be I have a truck but my homeless nephews showed up at my door over a year an half ago the have issues and I’m trying to get them assistance and into housing so as I said I still have hope them being with me long term is not an option I want to downsize and sell my house and get out of the city it jus gets worse every day so I’m done I’ve lived in city my whole life and the trash has just move in my neighborhood I live in St. Louis Missouri 8 miles from downtown and the Arch so I’m ready I keep it I’m my mind I want to travel while I still can
Another great video, Rick (and Linda).
Excellent video young man! You & Linda have safe & great New Year....
Thanks Karl.
Great video I’m going to steal that idea and take credit for it on your stove stay safe
Be my guest!
@@gonagain Just kidding but still a great idea
I have built a few of those cabinets with drawers for work trucks but never considered the camp kitchen add on 😃
Rick.....we love your videos!!!.
@@gonagain We understand..
Good video thank you have a great time
Thanks for the toilet tip. I've been using the cedar chips and wasn't that pleased with it.
yea me either!!!
Yeah, the sawdust absorbs the moisture better. As long as it's from dried lumber.

Funny- your bathroom system is a lot like ours. But we use a porta potty for #1. And kitchen trash bags in the bucket are a lot easier for the clean up IMO.
We tried the bags, but they don't fit around the urine diverter very well for us.
Aloha, good information, mahalo.
Good video guys.

Thanks JT!
