@@The4MusketeersYT That’s really too bad. Sometimes, I think corporations don’t know what the people really want. Ahhh... Mom's checking us all in at the airport for our summer vacation to Florida. This plays in the background as Mom lights up a Now Menthol 100 in the smokers section in the plane...I fiddled with the other arm-rest/ashtray waiting for the pretty lady with the carts to bring us Pepsi and airplane peanuts....1977'd
I can tell this is a fake "memory" because in 1977 *every* section of the plane was a smoking section. The same was true in grocery stores and most hospitals' waiting rooms.
This reminds me of a time when things just didn't suck in general and people were nicer to each other. When people actually wore decent clothes to the grocery store and shopping and eating out was an event. I thought listening to a "muzak" video would be a laugh but did not expect how emotional it would make me..
When they played tapes locally, in the 70s, you could call the office and they'd ID the song for ya! There was a snappy one called "Howdy Pardner", which I'd kill to hear again....Another played late one nite, called "Team From The Sky" had a Pink Floyd kinda sound.
After seeing so many Muzak tapes uploaded to YT and all the positive comments accompanying those posts, I have just one thing to say... Why are there no more "Easy Listening" stations around anymore?...NOW, before you answer that, know this: I've checked ALL the subcarrier feeds on every FM station in the Tampa Bay area and there are no EL streams, not one. I can, on occasion, pickup WAVV-FM out of Naples, FL, about 120 miles away, which happens to be one of the few EL stations left in the country. But then some crummy low power FM in Tampa was authorized to use the same freq as WAVV, stupid FCC!
Similar thing happened here in Fort Worth. KNCT Killeen, TX could be picked up in Fort Worth until a religious station in Denton wiped it out. Luckily, listening to KNCT I became aware of their stream which is still up. I list easy streams on my Internet Jukebox website sites.google.com/site/inetjukebox/ Unfortunately Jones College Radio from Jacksonville, FL recently terminated their stream. KNCT, KLUX and KHOY still broadcast as well as stream. WAVV used to stream.
@@CV2200A Thanks for your comment. I always looked forward to listening to Jones College radio while on my way to visit my folks in SC. While working for the U of Wis, River Falls, we always had KNXR-FM, from Rochester, MN on for background music in our TV engineering shop. The station has since been sold, I don't know what they broadcast now. Sure do miss the big "easy" stations in the Twin Cities from the 70's: KEEY, WLOL, KTWN, WAYL, and KSTP (KS95). In fact, I worked for KSTP-TV for some years and their FM station studios were in the same blg we were, was fun to visit them. Even podunk KABG in Cambridge, MN was fun to listen to with their scratchy and skippy records. Oh for the good ol' days when vinyl and tape ruled. While attending college in Minneapolis, I would often rifle thru KEEY's dumpster and found many great old tapes they threw away, still have them. One day their Chief Engineer caught me and invited me into the station for the nickel tour. Very nice man, I can't remember his name, but he gave me an Eimac 4-400 tetrode power tube from their AM station's Collins transmitter, still have that, too, yep, I'm a pack rat ;-)
@@JRNipper The reason - well, there are several... The music itself was harder to find as it wasn't selling as well as it once did. As far as radio was concerned, the audience "aged out." We began to see this in the mid-1980's.
Beautiful/EZ Listening Music aired on radio stations such as KABL 960 AM and 98.1 FM in San Francisco just to name one out of other radio stations alike across the country . This music was also heard in stores, elevators, offices, restaurants, shopping malls etc.
I wish one of the big radio conglomerates would bring up at least one station with this music format in every market. I’m certain people would tune in and listen. Businesses (retail, healthcare, etc.), students cracking away on homework, malls, etc. I’m sure it would make a comeback.
I'm guessing this music ran on endless loop for Southern Airlines Flights during a particular month / year? In this case, if your flight was more than 2 hrs, you'd hear it loop back to the same music if you had your headphones on the whole time.
QUE PRECIOSA MUSICA ,YO LA PONGO EN EL TRABAJO Y ES UN DELEITE PARA MIS OIDOS , A TRAVES DE MI VIDA LA HE ESCUCHADO , EN COMERCIALES, PELICULAS, SUPERMERCADOS RESTAURANTES ETC. ETC. PERO AQUI ESTA REUNIDA TODA, Y QUE PADRE PODER ESCUCHARLA , MUY BUENA , LOS ESCUCHO Y VEO DESDE MEXICO CITY 👍🇲🇽👍🇲🇽👍
i noticed the description said 1960s, but i think all 4 of these were actually from 1970. this one actually says 1/28/70, but the other three aren’t marked. they all have repeats from demo albums, and the same few at that, and they all come from 69/70.
That is the only reel with a red (or pink) label that says on it: "LEASE PERIOD REMOVED 973 1/28/70". Therefore, I would expect that that tape was in service for more than one month (but who knows how long they stay in use). The other tapes may be older or newer. The fact it was removed at the beginning of 1970 confirms that they were in use in the late 1960s early 1970s. The fact that these were being sold at all may even mean that they were phasing the whole system out at that time. Forensic speculation.
@@CV2200A i thought the 973 was september of ‘73 meaning it was removed in 73 but this would imply that it was before january of 70, which is a contradiction because son of a preacher man wasn’t until 1970. but then again this is muzak, who on multiple occasions has misdated things
The Mamas & The Papas" recorded "Monday, Monday" which is a different melody. I vaguely remember a song something like "Monday Morning" other parts of the lyric go "Monday, Monday, I love Monday" but I can't remember what artist recorded such a song. It could be that instead of Monday the song is about Sunday, or some other day of the week, but Monday or Sunday sound better. Perhaps someone else can confirm the original artist that melody goes with. I don't get a match with Sound Hound.
CORRECTION: The song title is "Sunday Morning" (not Monday Morning). Here is the Glen Campbell and Bobbie Gentry version ruclips.net/video/FISBPT2lE_A/видео.html
2B23 Irresistiblement (Irresistibly) is the name of the melody as recorded by Paul Muriat. Since it is a Muzak recording, we don't know the artist in this Muzak instrumental. Riccardo Del Turco is a vocalist so it can't be him on this Muzak instrumental unless he composed the melody.
@@CV2200A not sure how much this helps, but listening to some archives from london and another UK record label, i was able to find some pieces with a similar sound, and i believe this may have been arranged by Earl Sheldon.
Yes the Muzak fans would love to hear that in full, not many of Muzak’s 14 inch radio station/public reels have been sold online or in public and it is possible about 1/3 of half of those tapes were thrown out or destroyed after places didn’t find a use for them. So any of these reel that make it into the consumers hands are a sight to behold
If that is the song "Call Me", I heard NO glitching of the sound. Maybe you ran into a streaming glitch while playing from RUclips. Or maybe you heard a glitch on some other song?
I really don't know. How likely would these play at several terminals or gates as opposed to be playing on dozens of airplanes? Maybe someone will leave a comment stating how they were actually used.
from what i found, there was a tape deck in the back of the airliner, from which headphones for each seat were connected so that passengers could choose between listening or not, which begs the question… why were they so bothered by its presence?
Just wondering what tape speed these reels were set at. Is the reel 4 track/double sided. Suprised at how good of a selection there is. Some of the Muzak selections are so sachrine laced. Unlike Seeburg, which remained constinent and up to date with the decades.
Muzak at that time was mono. They were recorded 1/2 track at 3 3/4 ips. On this tape is is about 1 hour each side of the 7" reel. So almost 2 hours on this RUclips.
just wondering, is it possible for you to do timestamps in the description so this video has chapters. you can copy and paste the ones from my comment if you want to.
Individuals may still place timestamps in the comments. However, I do not feel Muzak was intended to be listened to one song at a time. Therefore, I will not attempt to include timestamps in the my main comments for any of the Muzak or other music videos I have posted. Also, RUclips limits the number of characters in a video description. I think it more important to list the song titles in order, as best as we can figure them out. Everyone, thanks for filling in song titles.
Sorry about that. Social media is increasing commercials as the years go by. If RUclips detects Copyright material, it puts ads in the video to compensate the Copyright owner. I do not monetize. If I did they would blank out the sound of the Copyright song or block my video entirely. WHAT YOU CAN DO: 1-There should be a "Skip Ad" button, but you have to be at your PC to press it. 2-You can download the entire video with "Download Helper" or other similar plug-in. Commercials don't get inserted into downloads.
If this music wasn't weaponized against employees, it's actually pretty damn good. Its purpose may have been sinister, but hey, it works. I listen to it when I work from home and work better.

I list easy streams on my Internet Jukebox website sites.google.com/site/inetjukebox/
Unfortunately Jones College Radio from Jacksonville, FL recently terminated their stream.
Probably because that demographic who used to listen to it is dead and they think people today want the garbage they peddle
@@JRNipper The reason - well, there are several... The music itself was harder to find as it wasn't selling as well as it once did. As far as radio was concerned, the audience "aged out." We began to see this in the mid-1980's.
Unfortunately, you can only find instrumental EL music on Sirius XM.
WJIB Boston is one of the few remaining- it’s a great station.
Several of the songs reminds me of the Partridge Family.
Keep thinking I have heard this recently while I was on hold . Pretty certain of it 🙂
there’s only 5 tunes left to identify on this tape. i think we very well may get all of them some time in the near future :)
Wow, this takes me back to the dentist's office! Awesome times
i wish my dentist would play this time of music. you’re lucky to have been alive in a time when this still existed .
🤣
2B01 (at 57:13) is California Soul. Thanks for posting this!
I have identified 2B07 as "Yes, My Darling Daughter".
Wish there was not an ad every other song 😢
Im like 98% sure My Way was arranged by Mel Davis

24:16 is happy together, an old school favorite of mine
bro heck yes
Thanks for the uplaod....awesome!!
[2A17] (0:38:13) is Tony Benett’s “Yesterday I Heard the Rain (Esta Tarde vi Llover)” in which “Whispering your name…” is one of the opening lines
Thanks for the song title correction.
@@CV2200A you’re welcome
It's all great, but that version of Son of a Preacher Man at 36:11 is outrageous!
Cab Driver, oNCE MORE 'ROUND THE BLOCK!
tbh cab driver slaps lol
That is the only reel with a red (or pink) label that says on it:
"LEASE PERIOD
REMOVED
973
1/28/70".
@@CV2200A but your point is still valid, that they would have used these around that time. i just wish these things were more clear and consistent
@@The4MusketeersYT This sounds ca. 1969-'70 based on the hit tunes covered, and the arrangements don't sound much later.
2B16 almost sounds like A Day In The Life of a Fool
groovy!
here before 1k?
Does anyone know what the name of the song is at 13:56? This whole recording is Great!
where did 2B22 Monday Morning come from. i thought it was by the mamas and the papas but they don’t sound the same
The Mamas & The Papas" recorded "Monday, Monday" which is a different melody.
[24A] 54:50 is a cover of Paper Cup by the fifth Dimension. i misnamed it as the theme from the partridge family
Thanks!
Dreams of the everyday housewife by Glen Campbell is from the late 1960s
20 A 46:07 is “25 Miles” by Edwin Starr

2A17 Esta Tardi Vi Llover by Armando Manzanero
2B23 1:52:28 is "Uno Tranquillo" by Riccardo Del Turco
2B23 Irresistiblement (Irresistibly) is the name of the melody as recorded by Paul Muriat. Since it is a Muzak recording, we don't know the artist in this Muzak instrumental. Riccardo Del Turco is a vocalist so it can't be him on this Muzak instrumental unless he composed the melody.
@@CV2200A looks like we have another case of honolulu baby/sweet little 16…
@@CV2200A not sure how much this helps, but listening to some archives from london and another UK record label, i was able to find some pieces with a similar sound, and i believe this may have been arranged by Earl Sheldon.
@@The4MusketeersYT Yeah, it definitely sounds like one of Sheldon's arrangements.

Similar selections like the ones that I have on the 14 inch Muzak tape reels I own.
id like to hear the ones you have on your 14” reel
Yes the Muzak fans would love to hear that in full, not many of Muzak’s 14 inch radio station/public reels have been sold online or in public and it is possible about 1/3 of half of those tapes were thrown out or destroyed after places didn’t find a use for them. So any of these reel that make it into the consumers hands are a sight to behold

why is the audio glitching out? 35:41
nevermind its coming out wrong on my end
If that is the song "Call Me", I heard NO glitching of the sound. Maybe you ran into a streaming glitch while playing from RUclips. Or maybe you heard a glitch on some other song?
So was this played on the plane, or when you were on hold?
I really don't know. How likely would these play at several terminals or gates as opposed to be playing on dozens of airplanes? Maybe someone will leave a comment stating how they were actually used.
On further thought, airport terminal would be able to receive the over the air background music. To play on a plane, you would have needed a tape.
from what i found, there was a tape deck in the back of the airliner, from which headphones for each seat were connected so that passengers could choose between listening or not, which begs the question… why were they so bothered by its presence?
Pump it into shopping malls and watch the savages leave.
don’t mind if i do
I wish they'd play this music in supermarkets here in the UK, as they used to years ago.
I beg your pardon?
Just wondering what tape speed these reels were set at. Is the reel 4 track/double sided. Suprised at how good of a selection there is. Some of the Muzak selections are so sachrine laced. Unlike Seeburg, which remained constinent and up to date with the decades.
Muzak at that time was mono. They were recorded 1/2 track at 3 3/4 ips. On this tape is is about 1 hour each side of the 7" reel. So almost 2 hours on this RUclips.
1:37:44 build me up buttercup
just wondering, is it possible for you to do timestamps in the description so this video has chapters. you can copy and paste the ones from my comment if you want to.
@@CV2200A i see, they allow up to 50 which the 47 tracks here fit within, but i understand why you wouldn’t want to divide these.
Ads??? Sorry that defeats the purpose of a relaxing muzak upload
Adblocker if on desktop/laptop.

If this music wasn't weaponized against employees, it's actually pretty damn good. Its purpose may have been sinister, but hey, it works. I listen to it when I work from home and work better.
3:35 - What a lousy arrangement of an otherwise beautiful, melancholy song, "I Started a Joke." I guess these versions can't all be gems.
yea i noticed they took a lot of the original energy and changed it into something more upbeat. its very different from the original
It is so God awful I like it.
It's better than 99% of modern "music".
Ladies and Gentlemen, please stand for the Greek National Anthem.
I prefer the muzak without eclectic guitars! This sounds awful.
1:11:52 - 2B07 - The tune is the Ukranian song, "Minka". Spike Jones & His City Slickers did a great cover of it.
