Thank you Curtis, an extremely helpful video. BTW with audio latency, I prefer to use the USB delay within my mixer rather than within OBS. This is because, every time OBS does an update, there is an unexpected change somewhere else within OBS. This has happened to me before with the sync delay within OBS. Moral of the story, a hardware solution is better than a software solution😂. Many thanks
What a coincidence I was looking at that convertor one hour ago. Cause few weeks ago, couldn't get clean audio from rode caster pro for a podcast. I am sure it was because balanced/unbalanced cables. Fortunately this device records internally. However my workaround at that time is to use rode wireless into headphones out 3.5mm in front. It did work. Not same quality as internal recording but definitely usable. Thank you for making this content.
Great video Curtis, what i use is XLR into a marantz PMD 602a preamp that my stationary camera sits on top on a tripod, I use four dummy AA's and a usb power adapter to power it because it sucks down AA batteries like nobody's business and then the unbalanced 3.5 mm goes to the 3.5mm camera input so the video with synced audio goes into my Atem mini pro via HDMI
Probably not the RODECaster Duo - my understanding is that it is a RODECaster Pro II with 2 inputs instead of 4 so I wouldn't expect a quality difference. I'm tempted to try Streamer X.
great video Curtis, extremely helpful! I had a question. The reason why there's two XLR cables connected to the CleanBox Pro is to achieve stereo audio on the livestream correct? If so how do l achieve stereo audio if I've got an audio interface such as a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 4th Generation?
Something worth mentioning as well when using balanced or unbalanced connections, particularly to cameras, is buzz/hum that's caused not but ground loop but by voltage differential which means even with a common ground they will still hum/buzz. Luckily a ground loop isolator will also fix this issue as it would with ground loop. I have this issue with my main camera rig in that my audio receiver (Deity connect) and my camera are both running off the same V-lock battery but at different voltages so i use an isolator. In my case I use a DC-DC converter that on the power supply line (B0505-1W) to the Deity connect as I was able to DIY something much smaller that way than a ground loop isolator but works in the same way and that is having a physical break in the chain at some point.
Hey Curtis, I have been struggling with bad audio going into my Atem, so this a huge help. I have just ordered an Art Cleanbox, but just wondering on cable configuration? Do I need 2 seperate cables to go from the 1/4in outputs of my Rodecaster pro which would be balanced 1/4 to XLR Male? which would go into the Cleanbox and then a single 3.5mm TRS stereo Unbalanced cable to go from the 'Unbalanced' output to the Atem mini? Also if i run this configuration, do i still need to set the Mic Input on the Atem to 'Line' Level? Big thumbs up for your videos, always very well explained. Thanks
Great review Curtis. I was particularly interested in how noisy the DLZ monitor outs are. I’m thinking of replacing my RCP2 with a DLZ for live streaming. Primarily because the prominent clock noise (not 60 cycle hum) on it’s monitor outs. I've followed all your suggestions with no improvement, got a ART CLEANBoxPro on the way to see if that helps.
I use the monitor outs on the DLZ to feed audio to camera for my livestreams and am happy with the results - no noise issues. I have not scientifically measured the outputs so I don’t have any numbers to share.
Curtis I would love to see your review of the Mackie - M Caster Studio. This device is avaialble in black & white. Rode only has black products, so the Mackie M-Caster Studio in White looks like a good alterantive to the Rode Streamer X.
Good day Curtis, apologies if this is off topic but I noticed you were using the CleanBox pro and I was wondering: can you power the Clean Box pro with a USB power bank and a DC 5V to DC 12V step up converter / adapter? (For a more mobile setup)
Does your camera have balanced XLR inputs or a 3.5mm mic input? If the latter, it is a way. (Not sure it is the BEST way as I haven’t tried a lot of other options).
I’ve used a 1/4 inch to 3.5mm cable from one of my headphone outputs directly into my camera before. Seems to work fine although eventually I’d like to upgrade my setup.
Thank Curtis. What would you suggest is the best way to get audio from a Rode streamer X to an Atem extreme. I'm streaming from the Atem. I'm using the headphone output into mic one as a line input. Problem it is stereo to mono?
Excellent vídeo Curtis! I have finally bought the DLZ Creator after seeing your videos. I tried to set up but can’t make it to hear the audio of the computer. I mean I was capable of send the sound from the mic connected to the DLZ to Streamyard, but can’t hear Streamyard sounds in the headphones connected to DLZ. With the Rodecaster it is a plug and play thing. Any ideas?
Hi, thanks for this video , I got my mackie dls creator , is there a way to choose what to output on the 1/4 L/R main output jacks ? I only need to output my microphone but I can’t find how to, hope you can help , and thanks for the great video, I’ll be waiting for the upcoming ones
Curtis, I have a Rodecaster 2 and have enabled a pair of Rode wireless Go 2 units. I am livestreaming using a Sony FX3 and have a Y splitter coming out if the monitor outs. I'm getting w fuzzy whining sound on the livestream. What could the problem be? Thanks
Hi Curtis. I am here just to thank you for you accurate, reliable reviews. It's an out of the blue comment just to say " thank you very much." It's very important to have serious people such as yourself on RUclips. I've been watching lots of reviews about gear for iPhone 14 Pro and am utterly shocked with the inaccuracy when not downright dishonesty in many reviews. One review, for example, has a fake test with a case for iPhone 14 Pro. And the reviewer has 3.3 million subscribers! So he is lying to all of them. He should go into politics. Another reviewer is enthusiastically praising Polar Pro cage for the iPhone 14 Pro . I posted a detailed comment explaining why I would not recommend that cage to anyone. They deleted my comment! I guess it was by request from the reviewer. I learned about the Sennheiser MKE 600 in one of your reviews where you praised the mic. I bought it and have no doubt that it is the best on-camera shotgun for iPhone Pro . The sound is so much better than anything else. I will alternate its use with a Mackie EM 98 MS. Obviously, the sound is not as good as the 600 but the mic has a built in gain and iPhones need a lot of gain. The Mackie also has a headphone port which is so important when shooting with iPhones. I use the 600 when using a Beachtek mixer and use the Mackie if I need or just want to carry less equipment. The important thing is that I can trust you. Thank you.
My mackie mixer has TRS R&L out. My atem constellation switcher has 2 separate TRS inputs. Do I use a dual to single TRS cable and just run into 1 input on my switcher? Or do I run R&L into separate inputs on the switcher? Thanks!
Is the cable from the rodecaster a y cable? As in 1/4 inch Left and right to a single xlr male into the converter or is it 2 separate, 1/4 inch to xlr cables? I’m sorry if isn’t worded correctly I’m not well versed in sound
It is two 1/4 inch to a single 3.5mm stereo cable, but a very specific cable that is wired to intentionally defeat the balanced outputs. See the link in the description to get to the exact cable.
@@ob_juankenobi2289 Ok, thanks. The cable from the RODECaster Pro is NOT a Y cable. It is two separate cables from the monitor outputs to the combination jacks on the ART Cleanbox. Then the cable from the other side of the Cleanbox to the ATEM is 3.5mm stereo.

Sending audio to MILC type stuff: what about those cams that expect mic level signal? Will that ART hardware you mentioned take care of that too?
Yes

I'd run two TRS cables from mixer to ATEM, especially if you'll have any music in your program.
You don't find the ART gear noisy? I have a couple of units in that same ART form factor that add noise (a tube preamp, and an old audio interface).
