For years I would get flashbacks of things that my father had done, but as I couldn’t remember properly, I thought I was a dirty, disgusting person for having those thoughts. It was only when I had my first child that I remembered everything that happened to me and I became deeply depressed, even more than usual, abuse destroys you.

But, it is necessary, because this behavior must come in from the darkness into the light and be exposed so those who are enduring abuse now may find help. This is not the will of G-d for people to be abused. Respected religious and civic leaders are not exempt from being pedophiles and child abusers, nor are relatives. It's so important to remember that it's not the survivors fault, they have not sinned, the Lord is not angry with them nor are they dirty. The Lord wants the abuse to stop because He ❤ you. Good on all you people for your strength in coming forward and exposing these crimes against children. The whole world needs to wake up. 7 out out of 10 people I'm close too, have been abused and I'm sure at least 1 of the other 3 is hiding it.
Absolutely have so much respect and admiration for what you are doing, the help, support and justice you are achieving for those who have been abused and also the ones who are in the situation still. Thank heavens you are there. Realising the incredible stress and responsibilities placed on your shoulders, without doubt, you are a star, a beautiful brilliant star.
Religion doesn’t justify abuse. Those who cannot practice or observe their religions properly cannot continue to do so. I’ve seen people abusing their religions only to take advantage of others.
My family wasn’t ultra orthodox, but still Jewish. It’s not the religion or the culture. It’s just that we have a tendency to be extremely insular and not want to disrespect esteemed community figures. I think it also comes from a fear of the children being unmarriable when it comes time, because of the familial shame. This is such a disgusting mindset. We’ve come a long way in America, but we’re still so far behind. As someone who was sexually abused, primarily by my grandfather on my mom’s side, there really still is no one to turn to. I can’t even look people in the eyes because of the great shame. I know people feel my soul is corrupted, you hear that said a lot. Honestly, that crushes me, though I know they’re trying to be empathetic. To think people think there’s something irreparably damaged about our souls is a killer.
My heart breaks for all of you. There’s a special place of judgement for spiritual and biological fathers who abuse children. It’s better they had never been born. When I was about 13 I was sexually abused by a friend. The shame was profound. I always avoided eye contact after that. I only summoned the strength to start making eye contact in my late forties. But that does not compare to what this brave woman went through. Shame on any community that ostracises victims of abuse and shields perpetrators. Such communities aren’t worth belonging to.
