    People don’t seem to appreciate exactly how big it actually was to record this back then , it was very risky, and it’s horrifying to hear how relevant it still is🥺I’m incredibly privileged, no doubt about it!

    Elvis’s manager and record label said if he released this song it would ruin his career .. Elvis grew up in the ghetto going across the tracks .. he wanted to shine a light on it so people would wake up !! He said release it or I will find another label that will .. honey they had to release it .. he was the biggest star in the world .. and yes Elvis was swagged out and pimp’in way before we knew anything about it .. thank u 🙏 Elvis !!

    My first crush was Mac Davis who wrote this. Plenty of folks turned this song down but not Elvis ❤️ I'm from Tennessee and remember being at school when our principal came over the PA system and told us he had passed away. We were inconsolable!

    Elvis oozed charisma and was born with the voice, talent and looks to go with it.

    • @sunshynff
      @sunshynff 7 месяцев назад

      Yeah, that was about it, barely played guitar, and out of all the songs he released, never played a single note in studio, or wrote an original lyric himself. Also does that charisma excuse his pedophilia, rape, spousal abuse, racism by proxy and massive drug addiction??

    Elvis' manager told him recording and performing this song would ruin his career because back in the '60s the civil rights movement was in full force. Here's another song that Elvis went against his manager's advice to perform: Elvis Presley - If I Can Dream ('68 Comeback Special) (3:12). I hope you'll also react to this one.

    Love seeing people reaction to Elvis. He was so amazing. My grandma and mom was HUGE Elvis fans. My grandma told me stories of standing outside the record stores in 1956 waiting to buy his records. I went down the Elvis rabbit hole in 1996 I was 12. So so glad his music still lives. Thank you for a great reaction

    I am a 65 year old woman from the same section of Tupelo, Mississippi where ELVIS is from! I am very proud of him! I Love him! He had B B BLING and he was B B BAD! Please play for me "I CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU" and "CRYING IN THE CHAPEL"! I could rattle off 500 songs for you now but the fun is discovering him by yourself! Thanks so much for your wonderful reaction and for bringing his genius to the younger generations!!! Your discovery will be your reward but I do have a documentary that you should watch. It is "ELVIS and THE BLACK COMMUNITY". IT IS SPECTACULAR. THERE ARE 2 PARTS. GOOD LUCK AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY!!!

    If I Can Dream...was the closing song on the '68 Comeback Special...this was a tribute to Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Elvis was devastated by the news of Dr Martin Luther King's assassinated. Dr King was murdered just 9 miles from Elvis's home in Memphis Tennessee. Mr Earl Brown knowing about Elvis's love for Dr King wrote this song with Elvis and mine. Using Dr King's I have a Dream speech, as inspiration. Elvis was originally going to close his special with a Christmas song. He fought with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker and insisted on performing this song. Mr. Brown noticed during rehearsal that one of the background singers had tears running down her cheeks. He asked if she was okay and her response was that she had never seen Elvis sing a song with so much passion. She said it was so obvious to her, that he met every word.

    Here is a funny story about Elvis. When he was in music class in middle school; his music teacher gave him a C- and told him that he wouldn't go anywhere with his singing and the music he played on the guitar. I guess that teacher didn't know anything when it came to different genres of music. Long live the King of Rock and Roll!

    I agree that with artists like Elvis, there is so much out there that makes him look cartoonish that the diamonds can be difficult to find. Roy Clark would be another, although he was more of a comedic performer. But his tenure on Hee-Haw kind of makes a person forget he was a virtuoso on multiple stringed instruments.

    Elvis was born and raised in a Mississippi getto, this song is from experience of being poor with no money. His father borrowed 200 dollars to build a bungalow and couldn't pay it back He went to jail for a couple of years.

    • @greenthumbmary5970
      @greenthumbmary5970 2 года назад

      That is incorrect. Vernon Presley sold a pig to a man who wrote him a check for four dollars. Vernon altered the check to say forty dollars. When the man found out he pressed charges against Vernon. It was NOT because he borrowed money for the 'bungalow'.

    By this point he could pretty much say anything he wanted but it's great that he brought some of this awareness to mostly white audiences although a lot of black people liked him at that point. As others have said he was born into poverty. He grew up in a black community that was actually better off than his family because it family was never very well off to start with and then his dad went to jail for some stuff and so the black community actually helped him. He went to Black Pentecostal church and so forth. Where he got his moves in his attitude. It's such a shame. Hits bloated by a rage 19 and there was a lot of positive reception but there was so much racist backlash and they used the n-word all the time to describe what he was doing. But I remember seeing an interview where he was quite shy but always honest and respectful. And they said why do you think it's okay to do this kind of thing? And he said, I honestly don't think I'm doing anything wrong. He was just a very young man expressing himself and he changed the face of music and pop culture.

      @@6li8storm40 The only expression he showed in this was when he got mad about the technical difficulties. He paused the video to talk about Elvis, in general. Why not talk about the song? You're right, a reaction doesn't have to be speech, but it does have to be noticeable to compete in a worldwide market of people selling reactions.
