    With music like this,it's no surprise to me that the Old Guard fought with such audacity! A great song from an even greater nation,vive la France from Great Britain! :-)

    The middle Guard broke, the units of the old Imperial Guard either retreated in good order or stood and died. "The Guard dies but does not surrender".

    "The ideas that underpin our modern world-meritocracy, equality before the law, property rights, religious toleration, modern secular education, sound finances, and so on-were championed, consolidated, codified and geographically extended by Napoleon. To them he added a rational and efficient local administration, an end to rural banditry, the encouragement of science and the arts, the abolition of feudalism and the greatest codification of laws since the fall of the Roman Empire.
    " -Andrew Roberts, British historian.

      Yes, we know Andrew Roberts! This begs the question why did French women not get suffrage until 1945? Roberts is typical of upper class, white, male orientated historian. Nauseating little man.

    the Chant du Départ was interdised by Napoleon at the end of the Consulate, like La Marseillaise

  • @IuniusPalladius
    @IuniusPalladius 16 лет назад

    C'est vrai, mon ami, le Chant du départ était le hymne de l'empire.
    You're right, Napoleon did not ban la Marseillaise, though he did not encourage it either. Davout's troops played it as they entered Berlin in 1806.

    For the "Chant du départ", in the contrary it was even regarded under the Empire as its Anthem
    It's true that during 25 years (between the Revolution of 1789 at the end of the Empire in 1815) with all these wars to be made against the kingdoms which attacked France, the French citizen left much at his home ^^

  • @clio2rsminicup

    For the Marseillaise, Napoleon never prohibits it officially, but he did not like it's true Especially not for political reasons but for sentimental reasons ^^ (on the contrary even the 1st time that he hears it in the presence of Rouget of Lisle his creator, he thanks it for the song)
    It's only later when he learned that Rouget of Lisle was the lover of Joséphine the great love of Napoleon, that it have evil has to hear the Marseillaise ^^

    Il est vrai que pendant prés de 30 ans (de la Révolution de 1789 à la fin de l'Empire en 1815) avec toutes ces guerres à mener contre les royaumes qui nous attaquaient, le citoyen français partait beaucoup de chez lui ^^

    Vive Napoleon! He was a megalomanic, ruthless, gambled and frittered away his soldiers, refused the counsel of his subordinates, created puppet governments, installing his kin. Failed in Spain and Russian (where there he squandered 600,000 of the best soldiers in Europe. The age of Napoleon is fascinating; but it is also an abject lesson about not following demigods to ruination.

    the music & guard, like Macron, Sarkozy, & Napolon short, little men, the personification of the Frenchman- the strutting cock crowing pretentiously upon his dungheap at bears, eagles and lions. Even Mali threw out the French as they were useless at fighting the Islamic State. The Mali hired real men- Russians: Cossacks and Chechens. The self same that destroyed Napoleon at Borodino and harried them from Moskow.
    When Hitler conquered France in 6 weeks, the world cheered, especially Ho Chin Minh, a hearty Victor Victoria Deutschland! Blowing up the Versailles train carriage was the Kirsche upon the Schwarzburg torte. Blücher would have cheered.
