This video is so correct on the vocal bit. I have one and she is the MOST vocal cat I've ever ever ever met. Her midnight zoomies are SO loud and destructive. She is rambunctious and just loves exploring (this means anytime you open the door she WILL try her best to dart out, but she is perfectly content with being picked up and dragged back just as long as she got ANY experience of new stimulus (seeing new floor, glass, sitting on a new chair or playing with a brand new kind of toy) She is also the sweetest, dearest cat I've ever had. She is so funny and precious. She hates being left alone and loves being around me. We found her on the side of the road at 6mo
Also she loves feet so much more than any other cat I've met, I think it's new smells as ANYTHING new intrigues her. New people? That just means new feet and socks to rub on to her. She loves people.
My male bobtail Corleone is also very vocal ( often when he's calling the other cat when he wants to chase her ) and gets the zoomies big time too. He has alot of energy, he's 10 but his biggest hobby is playing lions and gazelles with the other cat. Seems our bobtails have very similar personalities, Corleone is a total sweetheart, loves belly rubs and always likes to sleep on his human ( and he weights more than some of my neighbors dogs ) at night.
I have a Bobtail & it's a wonderful cat..Wants to stay close & is very trainable..I can give him a bath & he don't move..I can " toss " him upside down & he loves it..He shows no fear of ANYTHING..He's a short-haired but very thick coat...Coolest critter I have ever known.
We have an American Bobtail cat that adopted us. She's been around our area for a couple years. She now spends a great deal of time in our den, goes outside a couple times a day, has seen a vet, vaccinated and is an absolute joy She LOVES the laser light and I can't imagine her not being around. She doesn't shed much but I'm sure in spring I might say something different. As for her being vocal, she's vocal in a good way.
I can attest to the shedding! But I adore my cat! He also talks a lot too! And as he has gotten older( he's13 now) he has definitely developed more separation anxiety. So this video is spot on!
The separation anxiety is so valid! I thought it was because he's a COVID kitten but he really doesn't like being alone. He's clingy when our other cat visits the vet. He never stops talking and he sits everywhere I do just like a person would.
I have big male. He's awesome. They play hard lol. Vocal but he's super cool to have a conversation with lol. Extremely loving and cuddly, very stubborn, gets along great with my other cat, loves to jump on the highest stuff, great with kids too. Awesome cat all around. Got him at a shelter, didn't know what he was till a couple months ago 🤷♂️
I have had mine for 11 years now and he is the most loyal cat I have ever owned but he is not very vocal and didn't really purr loud enough to hear until about a year ago . I was gone for 42 days and he licked his fur completely off of the majority of his belly even though the wife was home with him. He is very in tune with how you are doing emotionally and can sense your mood your in and act towards you accordingly. The best emotionally beneficial pet I have owned to date. He will demand affection from you and also want his space so he is the owner of you in a sense lol. He also can sense if a person can be trusted or if there is just something not right about them, if he doesn't get near you then I know I should be cautious about befriending or trusting you especially if you have been around a few times and he still stays his distance. He has proven to have been correct every time . I don't know if this particular trait is just in bobtail but he gets a case of the butt goblins before and after dropping a duece, he just starts running around the house like he is bat shit 🤪 crazy before going to the bathroom and immediately following but only when he 💩 . Does your furry feline have the same affliction??but in all seriousness I find no reasons to not own one because they are a great addition to any family with the exception that mine is super territorial and will not tolerate any other cat. He also has balance issues and don't like yelling only because when he was a kitten he was thrown against a wall by a p.o.s and suffered brain swelling. The individual saw him on the counter and used that as the reason for his actions. Well I found that most disgraceful and he was immediately regretful for his actions and took 3 weeks for his face to heal and 8 weeks of his arm in a cast with 11 pins permanently in his hands keeping his fingers together. Animal cruelty is one step above child molesters and rapists and need to be dealt with accordingly and not by the justice system they are to easy on them and house them in protective custody saving them from being a target for abuse if given any prison sentence which we as the tax payer get the bill for. Sorry but I feel there is no place in society for people who prey on women and children or any defenseless human being or animal . I think we have a right to not have our hard earned money be used to house despicable, degenerate, sadistic human scumbags who commit such offenses plus it would be great for the environment by reducing their carbon footprint if it helps liberals who think that these individuals can be rehabilitated and deserve to be treated humanely . This will help change thier minds cause the environment is much more important to them than any others suffering by the hands of another person. This only applies to the majority of the population and not them ,they are exempt from flying commercial, driving suv's, or any gas powered vehicles, having gas stoves ,using plastic straws, eating kobe beef, caviar and all other expensive foods, as the rest of us are preached to about our failings and insatiable consumption of meats, gas and other everyday necessities. Implementing destructive and ridiculous policies
Agreed.....thank you for rescuing this previous sweetie! I also share my home with a bobtail cat named Corleone, It was love at first sight since I saw him wagging his little tail at a rescue 10 years ago, he knows i have insomnia and every night, the minute I go to bed, he jumps in and cuddles up and purrs me to sleep. He does get along great with my other cat but the rescue I adopted her from recommended I paired him up with a female kitten. They were right, he was so gentle with her when she was little, he's not so gentle with her now, she likes to pretend he's a wild animal and pounce on him and it usually ends up in a big wrestling match. However, I would be worried about him having separation anxiety when I'm at work but when he's not rough playing with the other cat, they are usually cuddling up together during the daytime.
I have an American Bobtail cat and she is so wonderful.smart and very vocal.and she is quite the huntress.she waits for us to come home .just like a dog.love her.
My American Bobtail (Winston) turns 5 in March, and we’ve had him since he was 8 weeks old. He’s never been very vocal or active. He does shed a ton and has horrible separation anxiety though. He waits for us at the door any time we’re gone for more than a couple of hours. But honestly, I wouldn’t trade him for any other cat. I’ve had several American shorthairs throughout my life, but the bobtail is more suitable for me. I can’t get over his fur color either. He’s a muted orange, almost identical to the lighter orange one in the video!
We found our Luka, grey tabby bobtail looking cat on the street in our neighborhood. We took him to the local animal shelter, and adopted. He started suddenly showing symptoms of Ataxia - a loss of coordination and balance causing involuntary falling. We took him to a vet and also neurologist. Estimate for just a brain MRI is $4,027.14 → $5,590.05. This video mentioned possible spine problems with bobtail cats. We have been treating him for possible inner ear infection. We keep trying everything to find the cause of his symptoms and to help him. Please comment with any suggestions that might assist.
Honestly, I watched this whole video with my two American bobtails in my lap watching with me. As most of these are right you just have to deal with them. My cats meow and it’s the cutest thing ever. But if you get one, DONT BOB THEIR TAILS. It can lead to spinal issues and your cats talk through their tails. It’s just better if you leave them alone. ❤❤
I have an American bob tail. Got him from a local lady. He has the most personality out of any cat Ive had or seen. Hes great. he does get separation anxiety though, i cant leave him for more then a few hours. I have left on short vacation a few times and always feel so guilty when i come home. its obvious he gets lonely
We took an American Bobtail orange tabby kitten that people were desperate to get rid of. They did not mention that she was incontinent (urine and feces) and has no control. She was abt 10 weeks old and came into the house with three other (in and out) cats that are non-reproductive and three dogs (we have a 35 acre farm). For a few weeks, she had her own big Condo inside the living room (3 x 3 with three floors for lounging, cat box on bottom floor and food/ water on second floor). The condo makes it very easy for new-comers to feel very safe and protected away from the other animals so they can get used to the house and the smells of the other animals and the sounds, etc. at first, I thought the incontinence was due to her being in a new place, but we discovered that she just had this problem and though there are cat boxes in every room, she would get in them and jump out again and just running and playing would have accidents everywhere. So I made a bodysuit type of diaper thing utilizing feminine pads that could easily be taken in and out and that’s the way it is now. Research led to the discovery that some of these animals that don’t have a tail or only have a little short stubby tail, also can have what is called Manx syndrome, which means they are in continent. But when she goes outside to mouse hunt all day long, she doesn’t wear her diaper out there and she’s as happy as can be and everybody always comes in before dark so that no one is outside exposed to wildlife or the dark ever. Only animals I am Barnes at night and the dogs and cats are in the house. We have never lost an animal to a predator yet.
We had a Himalayan cat like that. Moved to Florida and she lived out in the yard. Came in to eat. Was a rescue doomed to be put to sleep so ended up being happy and we could cope with her problems.
my loaf cat likes attention don’t want me but will follow you everywhere and play time(most of the time) never goes out and is the sweetest devious cat i have
Had one of these guys move onto my porch and now he is mine I guess lol. Amazing cat who comes when called and brings rodents to the porch often. He is the alpha of the local cat community and runs off any other cat who comes in the yard.
Ours is soooooo vocal. Drives my husband crazy but I don’t mind. I do think it’s one of those situations of the cat training me bc I probably cave too much and give snacks when he is being needy. Ours seems dumb compared to our other cat
Where do you get the idea that a shelter cat is free. They charge you for spay shots health check . Up to 499.00 at the humane society in st Augustine FL. By all means get a shelter cat but go to a town where it cost 30.00 and that should be complete with chip
I was grocery shopping at Wal Mart and a family was giving away kittens, they had one left no one had picked. Her name is Nubs and she is black and white, long hair and fluffy with a bob tail. I've never raised a bobtail cat breed and I gotta say she is quite different than your typical domestic cat. It's nothing I say is negative but compared to other kittens I've raised in the past she's a lot more active and needs significantly more play time and attention. I highly recommend getting a stuffed animal about the kittens size to play with them like it was another kitten. It is by far her favorite activity to wrestle, stalk and play fight with. It also really has helped keep her from attacking my hands or feet trying to play fight with them which is not something you want your cat to start doing for obvious reasons. Kitten formula milk is a great way to bond as well. Slow blinking, and if you've heard mother cats meow at their kittens emulating this I'm able to call her to me, or if she wants food, attention, wakes up not knowing where I am, that mom cat meow stops her crying and brings her right to me.
good video, people should know what they might need to expect with these super smart sweethearts......, BUT the part about spinal problems being common is simply not true. Being that the American Bobtail is indeed a rare breed, it seems that most vetrinarians and plenty of other folk are unaware that their skeletal structure is different from all other domestic breeds. The rear legs are longer which compensates for the lack of tail. This design of nature allows the kitty to balance out their gait while on the prowl. Spinal problems in this breed are usually either from injury or overfeeding and lack of exercise. Therefore on average, with a healthy diet and plenty of exercise, your outspoken American bobtail buddies should most likely have normal healthy spines. ........that is unless you strangle them for the nonstop meow meows, lol
I do not agree with this video. My cat is the sweetest cat in the world. She hardly ever meows. I wouldn't trade her for any other cat in the world. My cat does not shed like that man said. She's doesn't suffer from anxiety when at home by herself. I am retired and stay home most of the time. I love on her before I leave and tell her I will be back soon. No problems at my house.
Have one that will be 10. If I sit down she is on my lap. Go to bed she lays beside me. Will meow until you go watch her eat. Always alerts when someone pulls in drive just like a watchdog. Yes she sheds. Hair all over. Thats why they make lint rollers.
May of these I personally think are false my family has one and it is talkitive and energetic but the other reasons I have not seen or heard of but I don’t know about it’s spine
I also disagree with this video. They are perfect for families with kids and other pets. They have dog like personalities, so are great for dog lovers who dont wanna have to walk dogs 😆 kiddin
Had no idea they were rare. I had a bobtail kitten that we assumed got dumped showed up on our back porch on morning. He’s been the perfect barn cat

I like whoever typed this comment
I don’t agree with much of the video- however, it now makes sense why mine is so active. I didn’t realize they had all that extra energy

my bobtail isn't very vocal he wants attention he just tapps my arm or leg and brings me toys so we play fetch.
Me as a bobtail cat owner can give you a million reasons you should get a bobtail cat. They are awesome and lovely cats 🐈💝💕

1, your cat isn't every cat, 2, most studies on most bobtail cats rely on more then one cat, also I have 2 of these cats, this video is spot on

If you get a bobtail cat a companion, they’ll both be happier.
May of these I personally think are false my family has one and it is talkitive and energetic but the other reasons I have not seen or heard of but I don’t know about it’s spine
I got mine 2 years ago. Personally I disagree
So you like vocal Bobtail cats?
Yeah don’t get them cats ….more for me 😈
I got my female bob tail from the shelter that came from a large litter. So you can go to the shelters and find an American bobtail cat
All bullsh*t...we have one,and she is the best cat we have ever had
Maybe number 5 otherwise I could handle the rest
Then you'll need plenty of hairbrushes.
I also disagree with this video. They are perfect for families with kids and other pets. They have dog like personalities, so are great for dog lovers who dont wanna have to walk dogs 😆 kiddin
Don't ever buy prepaid tasks !!! It's a scam
Also they mean as hell.
They play too damn much and bite also
I just got a kitten and it's the most vocal little thing I've ever seen.
