Vinnie is incredibly humble about the near unattainable bar he set during the span of his career, man. This dude been the G.O.A.T. since the Dukes Of Hazzard 🏆
Honestly the GOAT in modern music. What a super smart and nice guy. Everyone who knows, knows the contribution to drumming Vinnie has made. He really is an enigma. I mean, there is no one that could play all of those styles, cotrectly, on all of those records, with all of those artists. There is only one...
Thank you for this interview! It is fascinating but also worrying, what Vinnie is saying. He notices very clearly that the world is not moving in a good direction. Only the show counts - not the hard earned skills and the quality. If this is called "old school" fine, then I am old school too! I am glad that I had the privilege of seeing and hearing Vinnie Colaiuta live on stage - and experience the depth of his increadible capabilities. And I really hope to see him again - or is this the end of his career now? I hope not!
Thanks for the interview! Unfortunately Vinnie was NOT part of the "VHS Instructional" wave. I heard that Rob Wallis approached him many times but to no avail. His performance on the Buddy Concert inspired generations. He was also in the lesser known Jeff Berlin VHS back then. That was about it. GRP Super Live with Dave Grusin. Pickins were slim back then for Vinnie video footage because he didn't really want folks to examine his playing (I suspect).
My brother had that Jeff Berlin video. His playing on the intro tune was absolute fire. I figure he didn't do a video because he was too busy doing something like 3 sessions per day to come up with a concept and write a script for an instructional video.
I’m glad he never did a video. Would have deluded the mystique behind him as a man and player. I would rather listen to the documented live bootlegs and records he is on. I actually have to go in and listen to what he is doing and figure it out. It’s not as hard either because Vinnie plays such a clear language on the kit. It can all eventually be transcribed. But I don’t even necessarily want to do that. I’m more interested in the emotion or feeling he is channeling through his playing.
In a group setting The drums are the most important instrument in every way. And I’m a keyboard player. You can also think that every instrument is a different kind of drum, but that’s another topic.
In 2019, I had the pleasure of seeing this cat take a drum solo for a whole verse of Mahavishnu’s You Know, You Know, on stage with Mr. Jeff Beck. Unbelievable drummer.
Thank you Kirkee B! Fantastic episode. Really enjoyed how natural it felt for you and Vinnie to dive into all these drumming and life topics. Cheers! Bugs
True Gods of drummer, wisdom-filled content indeed. But Kirk social media drummers...I ask one question, what music IE with other musicians have they played with or created? 95% haven't created any of the said aspects....
It would be great, at this point, for Vinnie to talk a bit about his hands and feet, meaning his technique. How exactly does he hold the sticks, did his grip change over the years? and so on...
So what are Vinnie and Kirkee trying to get at? That many of today's drummers are all about blast beats and chops, or they are aspiring to play like their heroes. I want to play with a solid groove, in the pocket, with a little bit of spice thrown in when you don't expect it (like an extra kick or ghost note). I also am NOT Peart, or Copeland, or Colaiuta, or Philips, to name a few of my heroes. They all inspire me, but I still want to put my own signature on playing, even though I play drums for fun and as a hobby.
I think a beginner drummer would have trouble telling the difference between Vinnie, Dave Weckl, and Gregg Bissonette. But seasoned players can. It’s a bit unfair to say all younger players or instagram players sound the same, if you listen enough you can separate Maison Guidry and Mike Mitchell and Brian Evans
@@thekirkeebshow i know. I love your interview style and the fact you got VC as one of your guests. This interview has alot of great insight. Its not marred by the typical questions. This interview is music philosophy being discussed by giants. I profusely thank you Mr. B.
You are the only Filipino DRUMMER who has played with a MAJOR RnB act. You broke the mold of the whole musical segregation thing . That along with those greasy grooves are why I consider you legend.

Thanks all for the wonderful comments! #Vinnieforpresident

True BUT….ANY video that he was a part of that the period became the visual study if this drumming maestro!

It seemed like the beginning of the video was very awkward.
interviews are always awkward! 😲
