What a great interview with the great
Lew Tabackin. He is one of the greatest saxophonists. Lew’s honesty about how he got started as a youth, is so refreshing.

I learnt so much listening to this. It also made sense of certain musings I had in my mind. One of them is why I know many jazz musicians' presence on a track 'new to me'. It takes about 3 seconds for me to know who's playing. It's how they end the note.

Besides learning so much more about Lew this interview has been very valuable to me as a music lesson. Sure to improve my playing , both from the technical aspect as well how to listen, learn, internalize approach the music. All great stuff but love the example of hearing other great players when listening to Sonny Rollins...yet the stew/gumbo of all these influences are the original voice of Sonny.

A professional Muso is a tradesman who can play various styles. If you can't sight read & back a Show...forget it... Jazz = a luxury in interpretation. Most players are afraid to improvise their musical thoughts. HEAR it & PLAY.
