Thank you so much for this gracefully conducted interview with this deep and thoughtful man -- who just happens to play music. When all the dust and grime settles after the ravage of our civilization, what we will be left with of value will be this beauty.

Charles McPherson got to sit in with his friend Lonnie Hillyer at a Barry Harris gig in Detroit when they were 15 years old. Barry invited Charles to come to his home to get an education in music and life. "He said let me see your report card ... I see you've got a bunch of Cs. You're really quite ordinary, aren't you? Well I'm going to tell you, the guys you like, your heroes, your musical heroes are anything but ordinary. If you want to learn how to play this music, you can't be a "C" anything!"

Thank you very much sir. For this intelligent discussion. Try to interview Barry one day, even though he is not a horn player:)
    Respect!

How and where can I get in touch with Charles Mcpherson ? I am 83 years old been a musician and artistpainter all my life and have now retired from orchestre and highschool . I dont play classical music on my flute anymore, but have taking my old instrument the altosax up again. I played as a teen-ager in a jazzquintet and to day I miss it.
    Sincerely yours Ole Birger Pedersen.

Georgie Auld-great tenor player with Artie Shaw and many other swing bands. He played all of the tenor solos on the film New York, New York starring Liza Minelli & Robert DiNero.

Auld's version of Harlem Nocturne is one of the most enchanting there is. It's up there with the renditions by Sam Taylor and Illinois Jacquet: ruclips.net/video/tanFCDqtFUs/видео.html&ab_channel=YJD67
