I think the soft polymer causes it to overpressure, though it’s hard to know other than the gas that blows out the primer pocket. Sorry you had bad experience. I think it’s just not for direct consumer use.

I’d be happy with 1.5 inch 40 shot group out of any rifle be it a bone stock or a Precision built rifle . X-Ring has always said that a 5 Shot 1 inch grouping rifle is plenty good for 1000 yard shooting .

First, I think 308 is a great cartridge with a lot of uses. Modern precision rifle competitions tend to shoot between 400 and 1200 yards and the 308 doesn't perform as well in the second half of that spectrum as well as many other cartridges. I think that .30 cal can perform along side some with more velocity but in the range you can crank a 308 round in terms of speed it can't keep up in changing conditions. Hit percentages not only fall off because of velocity but in terms of wind movement the competitive cartridges have half of the wind deflection so what you see is much higher hit percentages across the board due to not needing as accurate of a wind call to be able to hit the targets you're shooting at. The problem with just adding velocity is that the recoil increases as well. The caveat is that competitions are designed to favor the smaller cartridges and calibers at this time.. but that can change easily as match design falls to the MD and people wanting to compete in that particular arena. Perhaps that will change down the road. Theres no real reason that matches and stages are run the way they are other than it favors certain products and gear - if those changed so would the competitions. For example, if you started to add movement and physical components to matches you better believe things would lighten up.. if that was the case then polymer cases would look even more attractive. the way it tends to run now are people lugging around 30 pound rifles in baby strollers haha.

interesting, so basically shoots about as good as S&B match for a 3X premium.
