They do psych evals on them all. They pick at girls that have had some type of pain in their past. Lisa explained that the Tyra show picked on Corrine's traumas on a segment
Tyra tries to act insightful on matters when she knows when a girl is struggling and then pretend they have noticed it.
Because Corryn revealed her traumatic upbringing taking care of her little sister with a drug addicted mother. AND because in photos and in person, her shy reserved demeanor comes off as melancholy which isn't the best approach to securing work or going about job interviews.. This isn't rocket science, unless we are pretending to be offended here on Jessica Fox News Kobeissi's channel.

Notice in Jayla’s confession about how she’s not here to make friends, she still has her pre-makeover hair. Production definitely added that in this moment to make her the bad guy

I don't understand why they would be upset about having the same fear. If you audition for a role, everyone has the same lines. The key is in the delivery.

They didn't seem upset about having the same fear at first. It was more that Nik added something to make hers unique and then Jayla took it. It's just annoying and there was no good reason for it.

Obviously she still should've worked through it no matter what, but being caught off guard like that definitely threw her off her game. She seemed to be doing fine when she was practicing it. You can tell she just let the situation get the best of her.
yes but this is different. one girl added to it, the other stole it even tho their fears were the same. this is why the other girl has every right to be upset.
The real secret is that no modeling agencies want to hire ANTM winners. They're using these women for the reality TV drama and then discarding them when it's over.

Nik and Jayla actually made up later in the season and Nik chose her as a friend for one of her challenge wins and walked around London with her, so that's great.

Jayla may not have done it intentionally, but her reaction to being given a cold shoulder is way out of line IMO. The cold shoulder isn't the worst, and it's up to you if you're receiving it to ask why. Not try to pull it out of someone else. As soon as she admitted she was getting the cold shoulder, I think she should have asked Nik for a conversation. The anger and holier-than-thou attitude was just not necessary IMO.
I also think Nik should have found a way to not let it get to her as bad, maybe even just fake a secret.
A lot of heightened emotions controlled the way this episode went. Sucks they do this to these girls 😢
it also gave "i'm too innocent idk what y'all are talking bout" like she pulled the victim card imo. when lisa asked her what they had in common today she acted dumb / stupid like girl you knew damn well- but that's just my opinion. she was a hypocrite too bc she's complaining that nik gave her the cold shoulder yet claims she doesnt care whose friends w her bc it's a competition.
It seemed more like a trigger from rejection sensitive dysphoria to me
Jayla explains this in her interview with Oliver Twixt.
She said it was a coincidence but another contestant brought it up to her that "ohhhhhh 'you can't' have the same secret". Jayla is confused why two separate people can't be scared of the same thing.
At some point, Jayla and Nik meet up then Jay comes in. Jay is basically like "oh don't worry about it, you two can deliver it in different ways." (red flag as Jessica points out)
Jayla is doing the commercial and Jay tells her she sounds too rehearsed, change the secret. And then immediately cued production to start again.
The night light thing was the only thing in her head, so she blurted it out in the form a question. Then Jay is like "oh that sucks go back to the original." (This implies she did just one take)
Then later on she affirms that they did edit it in panel WITH THE SOUNDBITES FROM THE INTERVIEWER
I pretty much believe Jayla, she was storytelling in vivid detail for the whole interview (including Granola Gate for those that know). Watch it, it's so funny.
If not, who cares because that's probably the least malicious thing for ANTM standards and they did get a chance to patch things up on camera.
I love Jayla's interview. She was such a great storyteller.
I forgot the most crucial detail that the edited commercial in panel had soundbites from the interviewer.

It’s probably one the top best interviews for ANTM
A RUclipsr did a video on reality show prizes and said majority of the girls didn’t even receive their modeling contract and a lot of the monetary prizes and gifts from the challenges they ended up being heavily taxed for and most girls turned them down.

Rewatching this these photoshoot ideas are horrendous. Especially after getting a degree in marketing I would never associate a product with peoples deep dark secrets. Unless it’s like something to do with celebrity gossip or something with true crime

@@djanime317 Aww... Good for her. I really love her blonde hair makeover. She somewhat resembled Tyra with the blonde hair, especially the photo they chose during the hair makeover shoot. It does kinda makes me wonder if Coryn's closest resemblance to Tyra is why Tyra eliminated her just like what happened to Felicia cycles later in Cycle 8, but who knows, y'know.
Jayla was so immature with this. She knows she stole her secret. Nik had every right to be upset, and Jayla had the gall to get upset. But nice eye Jessica. I didn't even realize they let Jayla go first.
Jayla didn't intentionally steal Nik's secret. It was a set up. According to her interview with Oliver TwiXt, Mr. Jay, in the last minute, told Jayla to change her secret; so she basically said, "I sleep with a night light?", in a form of confusion and a question. Then Mr. Jay told her that it was awful and she should go back to her original secret. So, at panel, if you listen very closely, when the judges played Jayla's commercial, right after Jayla said, "I'm scared of the dark" then it cut to Jayla with a frankenbit (a sound bite) basically saying, "I sleep with a night light" in the exact same way after Mr. Jay told her to change her secret. So to sum it all up, Jayla didn't deliberately steal Nik's secret, they set Jayla by purposely making her change her secret in the last minute and then frankenbitted it in her commercial.

I still think Jayla was immature with that confessional she did. Unless she spoke to Nik about it, which I don't think she did, she should've known Nik would've reacted a certain way.
Initially the conflict here sounded so stupid, but I reckon it's not really about the fear. It's that Nik knows it's something that could be taken as a negative against her. She is clearly very aware of how petty the show is and how it could effect her. Unfortunately she missed they were pushing her into a trap of appearing negative.

I know it's scripted and heavily influenced by producers but I wish at least one of them got a bit more creative and troll-y with her secret. "I'm scared of heights", "I eat ice cream in bed", "I know the real identity of Zodiac". Something. Anything. Lol

Ok since I feel like this is a safe space to share video game “secrets” I’ll put this here: After vigorously following the strict rule of no time traveling when new horizons came out, I caved and skipped to the next day when I finally unlocked K.K. Slider 😩 I just wanted to terraform so bad, but I couldn’t fully enjoy it because I felt like I cheated and would be shunned by the AC community (which was so cutthroat at the time lmao) Looking back, it’s wild to see how much I beat myself up about it 😂
Fear of the dark is a very common phobia. THe two girls should've discussed it and agreed to use the same line!
Cycle 5 had some of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen.
That smile on Jayla’s face when Tyra was talking to Nik in the bottom 2: either they did her dirty in post and edited in a smile from another context to push a drama narrative, or she was being incredibly nasty. I honestly can’t tell which.
Lisa passive aggressively bullied Coryn, she would not leave her alone, she was relentless in this episode. I think it affected Coryns performance

Jessica the one aspect that people forget is this show has massive editing issues. I know that they told a couple females to not mention SAG as it’s a union for actors and other people who are in this industry. They did this so they didn’t have to pay them or give adequate wages and benefits. I would love to hear from anyone who has been on ANTM . I have been thinking about doing a big book about the abuse and actions of Tyra as she is not a role model for anyone. I have also heard that Tyra has always been a bully and a liar .
What a sneaky way of tripping up someone. Then prodding them for a more in-depth answer and afterward stirring the pot.
I think I would say I'm afraid of dogs. Next shoot I believe they would have me model with puppies 😅😂 (not really scared but would be funny to do or say)
Lol i love how in this show they were always saying this is real! Even watching this as a kid I didn't understand why anyone would want to be a model. Models get to pick what they do they get choices these contestants don't
models dont actually 70% of the time. their management teams do. whether it be a runway, ads, sponsorships, photoshoots etc. they dont always get to pick. they could however turn it down but that would be dumb bc they wouldn't get paid alot.
I feel like a lot of Jayla's comments seemed really pasted together and seem fake. She might not even have been talking about Nick the whole time but they made it seem like she was. That said, it was a shitty thing to do to steal someone's idea and then get mad because they're hurt.

To be honest probably a lot. The one in Germany is still on the air and a bunch of former contest have said how toxic and even made a exposed documentary on it and there was still thousands of people applying for the show.
I wanna see a model comment on here saying, "Oh yes, we do this all in one day." Not because it's part of the job, but it saves time and money. I'm curious if part of it is true or if it has changed over time.
I think both models should’ve had a conversation about who was going to use what. Like “hey is it OK if I say I’m scared of the dark and you say you use a nightlight“. And then they stick to that. Or one could’ve used being scared of the dark and then help the other come up with a different secret. But for the first girl to use both is completely wrong. However, with the way it sounded all chopped up, I don’t know if she even really said both of them while filming the commercial. Production is super sneaky like that.
I was in a group interview in Portland… it was all girls except me. They all literally copied me and they even looked like jayla lol (didn’t get it) I left that self destructing nightmare

Jayla revealed in an interview that Nicole had a full meltdown on this shoot and threatened to leave the competition (something along the lines of her feeling she was being humiliated from what I recall). It seems the meltdown happened while she was doing the interview.
I would love to see that footage but I don’t think it exists (or will never resurface).
Jayla and Nik’s situation shows me that Jayla has never had an original thought. She is so used to stealing the ideas of others it does not phase her in the least. She is one of those people at work who listen ls in on ideas for a project and then takes it to the boss as if it was her idea.

Could you please make a video about The Face UK? Specially episode 5. A black girl has to wear a metal skirt that injures her! And she has to run over and over wearing that. Naomi Campbell scolds her for not keeping composure whatsoever even when the cameras are not rolling. She constantly yells at her and humiliates her. At one point she makes fun of her saying "This is how you run? You're from Jamaica!"
It's not only psychological violence, they actually physically hurt the model for drama. People often see The Face not as toxic as ANTM but that episode proves otherwise.

Jayla was in the wrong imo. Not only did she purposely try to sabotage Nik’s shoot, she got way too upset and almost threatening in response to knowing Nik was annoyed. That seems totally unreasonable to me. If she truly didn’t mean to mess up her commercial, why wouldn’t she be fine with apologizing?
