Thanks for the video...now that I have this installed, I want to take my Ryobi back to the store, because this is the trimmer head that should have come with the trimmer in the first place.
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.
First of all...the technican is speaking wayyyyyyyyyyy toooooooooo...fast. 2nd...I still cannot understand how to remove the factory installed head. Yep...I hope customer service will help. My fear is there is a VP of sales who is saying: SELL A NEW UNIT. Home Depot...are you listening????
I agree! He's speaking way to fast. Additionally,, how do you remove the factory upper housing. No instruction on how to do that. My curves shaft doesn't look like the one in the video and I m just bought last year. No customer service on the weekends.
I had to use a knife and pry it open to get the tabs pushed in not easy. Also difficult to find out how to replace the head. They say it just snap in. But I have been struggle my for 2 hours looking for a his video. Ti tak it off not sure I twist the bump counter clockwise which I did not do. Ev n my 49 year old son was stumped!!
You literally took a process that should be 5 minutes or less, and confused a lot of owners. This took me over 30 minutes to actually figure it out. Poor job guys!!
I agree with others. How the hell you take the old head off. You need a special ryobi removal tool that cost as much as the replacement head ...I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.
How do I get the upper and lower housing apart?? I press those tabs and pull and push and I’ve watched 14 different videos I can’t get past this point. Can any one advise please?
I have a slightly different easy reel, was going to use my Pro cut 2, though I thought I'd check this out first. I didn't think I was stupid until I couldn't figure out how it went on hahaha. Thanks a lot. Now to give this bad boy a run and work out which expand it parts I need
Neat, was just thinking about something similar for my P2006 while using it this morning. I would like to get the head with the two plastic blades also.
So the RY252CS Bump Head is called Reel Easy but it is different than this one. HOW do you get it apart? I guess you are not supposed to but what if the left over string is trapped inside and is blocking the holes preventing reloading new string? HELP.
First time using the trimmer, the head exploded in a bunch of pieces and flew into the bushes never to be seen again. Sent a message to Ryobi hoping they can help me with a replacement without forking over another $30+.
Doggone, I understand this is a video that I can watch as much as I want but..... THIS ISN'T A RACE!!! Customers are watching this because your written instructions are terrible. Maybe you guys should take some lesson from men and women who do RUclips videos for a living. Slow down.

I was beginning to love Ryobi and things being universal until I purchased Ryobi One battery version, and discovered none of the heads for my gas power straight weed eater are not compatible. Then, the head and spooler on my electric are not quick disconnects, as well as the small wire spool all whipped out after 2 uses. Ryobi is on the return back to Home Depot path.
But the plastic blade attachment will not fit on this head. Or is there a different blade attachment made for this head. That's why I bought it in the first place..........
thank yo very much i was actually looking up how much was the spring that's when i came across this video the manual hand one gives me and my dad the shits but installed today and was great thank you
Is there another head design that can replace this one? My line keeps breaking off at the grommets such that I have to disassemble the head, pull the line out, reassemble, and reinstall the line. This is the rule, not the exception.
A big help with keeping the line from breaking [mine did that too] is keep the distance for. Lovjest the same as your line length. Too close to rocks etc that will h a pen more frequently.
What is the part number for the reel easy trimmer head which has an arbor post as shown in the video? I had bought a used RY252CS and it appears the trimmer head is incorrect as there in no through hole for string to feed through. Currently on my trimmer head the string feeds through one side but doesn't come out the other side...it jams up.
REMOVAL OF TRIMMER HEAD SOLVED: If you head is like mine, there is no apparent screw or bolt to undo. That's because the head screws onto the gear box with an upside down nut. You can only see a small circular hole/dimple looking up at you..that's the back end of the nut. On the bottom side of the trimmer head you will find a circular plastic band that narrowly fits over the gear housing. You will notice a break in that circular band about ¼ inch wide. On the gear housing there is a notch that is hidden unless you rotate the plastic band to expose it. My notch was located at about 7 o’clock if you are looking down on it from the trimmer head side, or at about 5 o’clock if you are looking from the backside of the gear housing. Your location may differ. Slide a screwdriver into that opening in the plastic band and into the notch. This will keep the arbor from rotating. Grip the trimmer head with a thick glove (some hedges are sharp) and turn clockwise as you look down from the trimmer head side. It feels like you are screwing it in, but you are actually unscrewing it. If it doesn’t budge at first, lay a thick rod or bulky screwdriver across the base of the trimmer head (the bulk of the trimmer head has been removed, right?) and apply pressure like you're tightening a lug nut against the base of the posts that the rest of the trimmer head snaps onto. Spin the trimmer head base clockwise and it should come off. Reverse the process to install. Once I figured this out, it took mere minutes to switch out the complete trimmer head. Good luck!
This worked perfectly for mine. Too many instructions tho man. If you look at the side of the head and turn it you will see a tiny notch. Find an allen wrench or screwdriver that will fit inside the hole or notch. Once it is in grip it and start turning the head one way or another, it will loosen and come off.
Is it remotely possible, in this AFU world, to purchase a Ryobi battery powered trimmer that HAS the REEL-EASY SPEED WINDER Bump Feed Trimmer Head already installed?
I loved this video. I put the parts together like the diagram showed in the instructions (straight shaft with arbor). Everything went together perfectly. I kept trying to put the silver bolt into the shaft. Wouldn’t screw into shaft. Watched video “bam” was turning screw clockwise, should’ve been counterclockwise. Keep up the great work.
Just bought gas powered straight shaft. Line jammed took off lower housing removed line. Every trimmer I have had in 50 yrs had large tabs which locked into place. This Ryobi does not. Anyone else run into this??
Need help! I have the gas powered curved shaft C430 with arbor. Installed a new reel easy head. If the bolt is too tight, the bump feature will not work and loading is impossible. If the bolt is too loose, soon as I hit any hard surface, rock, gate post, etc., the bolt loosens and the entire head will fall off. What is the solution?
Worst trimmer head I have ever dealt with. Looking for a replacement head for my Ryobi 4 cycle trimmer. String constantly gets stuck then you have to take the whole head apart.
I took the head off where the spring is and can’t put it back on. Had to try pushing back the tabs blocking the re-entry tabs and think I may have broke it. Damn I hate weed wackers
It sure would be nice if the employees at Home Depot knew this. I have the old style and have been searching high and low for discontinued parts. The packaging on the new style says nothing about which models it fits. I like your products but your information dissemination sucks.
I’m 63 years ol and I’m trying to make my life easier. This weed eatter is the last thing anyone I’ve 60 should buy! I spent 6 hours trying to put the string head on! The parts didn’t fit right, too tight, won’t thread on the screws, I’m seriously disappointed. It’s going back!
Huge design flaw of the bump trimmer head in terms when you want the open the case !!! I had to smash it on the ground to open … it didn’t come off that easy for me
You need to first show how you take off the old one to put on the new one otherwise people may not know. Year the Ryobi Channel it is your equipment you should show how to take it apart first the old part the old real and then continue with the installation process.
Welcome to one of the most ridiculous and oversimplified instruction videos ever shot. Missing some essential aspects of the assembly and not implementing close-ups where most needed, this video has been shot to make construction look much easier than it actually is.
