In 1984, Fred Ladd and Entercolor Technologies Corp. colorized this cartoon as a test for Universal. The studio rejected this and all future plans for colorizing black and white Lantz cartoons. This is the only Oswald short that is colorized by Fred Ladd.
Loved the toon. The 1934 black and white toon looks pretty good colorized. Although the color enhances its somewhat saccharin sweetness that same sweetness works rather well for me. I love Toyland toons but was a bit surprised when the toy soldier army just folded up like that. From what I can see this was released in Feb 34 while Babes in Toyland, whose toy soldiers were much more successful at routing the villains, came 9 months later, Nov 1934.
