I was eating a lot of fortified nutritional yeast in recipes such as "cheeze sauce" when I went vegan and after a month or so I developed an itchy rash on my neck that was constant. I never connected it until I stopped eating it for a while and the rash cleared up. I was curious so tested my theory by adding it to my diet and - presto - the rash came back. I can't prove it but I believe it was the synthetic B vitamins. I now eat it almost daily, but I consume only unfortified.
There are no synthetic B vitamins in it? If you mean B12, its not synthetic. It would be way too expensive to synthesis B12, its made by fermentation. But high B12 consumption has been linked to acne. As the p.acne produces B12, but when there is a lot of B12 in its environment.. its stops producing B12 and start producing inflammatory substances.
My feeling is that it was the artificial form of folate, folic acid, that may have been causing the skin problems, but I can't be sure. I have been following the latest info on B12 and as you say, it seems all the medical gurus are now cutting back their recommendations of B12 from what was considered ideal before. It's not sold where I live, seems to cost a lot online, and I'm not really bothered about the 'cheese' taste anyway. I'm not missing it yet (newly-converted vegan) and think I could do without it quite happily. I can't eat this. Everytime I eat this I get headaches... STRONG headaches. I tried non fortified products (foods alive), but I get the same headeaches. Some people on the internet says it is the glutamine amino acid. Does anyone have the same?
Hi Lucas this product is part of msg. My son in law cannot use msg he gets bad headache, after getting headaches from this yeast he did a lot of research in which he told it comes from MSG I don't know the research information, but may be you can check it out. I think it's just as bad as MSG. I would never use it, I see it to be as bad as junk food
I am the same. Body aches and splitting headaches. Yeast has gluten and someone said there's msg in the nooch. Regardless, it's awful for me in any amount. In searching for a substitute recipe to make my own I came upon the "Gourmet Vegetarian Kitchen" on You Tube. I tried her way. After all was said and done, I now just buy plain dried chick peas, white miso powder and mix them together. What ratio? I forgot, but it's close to 2:1 chkpea/miso. It's NOT nooch, but ok for subbing. I've recently acquired a dehydrator and I'm going to experiment with dehydrating shredded plant cheese to get a cheese taste. I'm also looking at drying some cashews and blending them up too. Hope this helps. If there's a will, there's a way! By the way Chef Jana also has a recipe on You Tube for a sub of nooch, but it has dried active yeast.
I have only tried this on popcorn. I rarely eat popcorn b/c most microwaveable plain popcorn contains a lot of palm kernal oil & salt. Also bagless popcorn is too much work.

6:57 this part confused me. Are the only organic nutritional yeasts grown on grain? I have an organic non-fortified nutritional yeast. It only has 15%of daily value of thiamine in one serving. The Sari foods non-fortified one has loads more. Is the difference because mine is organic?
When I opened my first container of nutritional yeast it smelled like peanuts or peanut butter to me. But it didn't taste like peanuts or peanut butter it tasted cheesy in food.. the process of drying nutritional yeast is it exactly the same as potato flakes or powder. I have an illness that requires a B12 injection intramuscular only at home which I do myself and it is cyanocobalamin and I could die without it. I purchase non fortified nutritional yeast. MSG has never been shown over decades and Decades of studies to cause any issues for humans including allergic reactions and headaches in quotes. My mother swore she was sensitive to MSG and they gave her a headache. Last year she broke her hip and I did all her cooking and I cook with MSG. She didn't know it and didn't get a headache. Frankly taking MSG other Chinese food has made it taste crappy. Msg's almost in everything that we eat. The vitamin that I take is all derived from natural superfoods not synthetic based. In excess means you would have to eat more of it than you possibly could. Not just on your food that is fine you would have to be eating it by the Spoonful every day.
Elizabeth Shaw The fact that you use MSG in everything shows you probably have a PROBLEM with it. Many people are addicted to it this flavor enhancer due to its excitotoxic effects. That's like an alcoholic mom slipping some rum into the baby's bottle. And the fact you purposely put in all or the majority of the meals you prepared for your mother is dishonorable. Really? This is the woman who gave you life! Ican hardly believe that anyone would be publicly boasting about having done this. The woman was apparently incapacitated & you were supposed to be their to help her. Instead, you had the nerve to adulterate her food with something she's clearly told you that she doesn't wish to consume. Some people would say what you've done is just plain evil, but I won't go that far. For all you know, she is sensitive, & she may have assumed any pain she may have experienced to be a side effect of her injury, or any pain meds she may have been taking may have effectively or partially masked it. Unfortunately, headaches aren't the only affectations that MSG causes. Or worse yet, she may have silently suffered, not wanting to worry you or critique your caregiving. You might know the saying that 'beggars can't be choosers'. For all you know, you have been actively abusing your mother. Oh so NOT funny. And you're proud of it! 5th Commandment: Honor your mother & father in order for your life to be long. The first commandment with promise.

I use a tablespoon of non-fortified nutritionally yeast mixed in my daily morning bowl of oatmeal. Also love it sprinkled on hot buttered air popped popcorn.
I used to eat that every day but my forearms started to form an itch rash which left scars on both arms. Be careful what you put in your body. The yeast I had was not fortified and non-GMO.
I have rash on my arm aswell
Thank you, SuperfoodEvolution, for such a well made, informative video!
Much love!
Great video! I'd love to see this for pink Himalayan salt
I tried nutritional yeast for a while and it gave me belly cramps. So bad that I've sworn off completely now.
SOME PEOPLE CROSS REACT TO IT AND SO CAN'T TAKE IT. I TOO DO NOT DO WELL ON IT.
Wheat germ makes me nauseated, but never tried yeast
@@capricornlove4816 BY ANY CHANCE DO YOU HAVE ALLERGIES TO GRASS POLLEN IN SUMMER.
@@sylviaking8866 yes I do, any connection?
@@capricornlove4816 THERE MAY BE AS WHEAT IS FROM THE GRASS FAMILY OF PLANT. I DO NOT FEEL GOOD WHEN I EAT WHEAT AND I AM SUPER ALLERGIC TO GRASS POLLEN. IT'S JUST AN OBSERVATION THOUGH.
Now if these manufacturers could all package their products in biodegradable wrappings that'd be great.
Great video, so balanced, thank you
Because ,, I've been taken BRAGGS / nutritional yeast. ( the cheezy kind.) Thank you in advance😁
TY! Very informative. I love it on popcorn and wondered what else I could use it on.
You bet!
Thank you for this information! Very informative!!
If one is allergic to brewers or bakers yeast, would that person also be unable to eat nutritional yeast?
Love it, use gobs
(2-4 tablespoons) of it in 1-2 meals per day
Full vegan
Excellent. I got at my health food store some organic N.Yeast. I wonder if actually there is such a
Thing...I will do more research. Excellente vidéo.💫
Thank you for the clarity
Interesting information- thanks! I really enjoy the flavor on my Keto diet and put it in soups, and even sprinkle it on steaks for a delicious flavor.
whats the point of eating steak if ur gonna slather it in stuff to make it taste good 😭
Excellent and very informative . I Subscribe . Thank you for sharing 🙏
Thanks for this video 🙏 very well made
I am vegan have been since 2013. I just wanted to mention I do use NOW brand nutritional yeast and I have to say since I started using it my B vitamins are now balanced. So I am not sure why he says to not use this as a b12 supplement for vegans...IT WORKS FOR ME.. but I am sure it also depends on your diet. The NOW brand is a company I trust as clean.
And do you have shares and/or are a co-owner of the brand "NOW" with the way you seem to be really pumping their name out there?
It is excellent as a B12 supplement. I have been a vegan for 52 years, and I have used Nutritional Yeast for about 20 years, but it does depend
On the individual. In that case, a B12 vitamin should be considered.
Would you mind sharing the recipes you mention at the end of your video? They look delicious! Thank you for all the information!
What a fantastic informative video. I'm saving this. I've been meaning to get some nutritional yeast for ages (as per Dr Eric Berg) but didn't know that there was so much to consider. Thank you. (New sub here.)
Welcome, glad to have you aboard! Yes Berg is great.
Just remember this, Dr Berg is not a doctor at all according to one of his family members!
@@lindamorgan3082 He's an experienced and qualified chiropractor, yes, indeed, a doctor.
I have Been ☺reading and watching, RUclips videos of nutritional yeast for over a 😰week, what a waste of time, all I had to do was watch Your 😄video, very interesting, and informative, I don't think you guys left anything 👍out. It was a good learning experience for 👍me, I thank you very much for this great information!!.😁

I can't eat this. Everytime I eat this I get headaches... STRONG headaches. I tried non fortified products (foods alive), but I get the same headeaches. Some people on the internet says it is the glutamine amino acid. Does anyone have the same?
9:20
I've recently acquired a dehydrator and I'm going to experiment with dehydrating shredded
plant cheese to get a cheese taste. I'm also looking at drying some cashews and blending them up too. Hope this helps. If there's a will, there's a way! By the way Chef Jana also has a recipe on You Tube for a sub of nooch, but it has dried active yeast.
Awesome! I will buy it tomorrow!
Thank you very much, I found this video very useful in helping me to make a personally suitable choice 🙂
Great!
Thanks for sharing your information on nutritional yeast.
That was a fun topic!
Excellent information, and a long time subscriber!
Thank you for the critical information of the lack of bio-available B-12 when "enriched." I will have to find the other source you mention.
Glad it was useful...
Thank you for your the information, I'd like to know at what temperature the yeast gets dehydrated please.
I was just thinking about nutritional yeast and this video is suggested. I see know that it is not for me. Thank you.
I have only tried this on popcorn. I rarely eat popcorn b/c most microwaveable plain popcorn contains a lot of palm kernal oil & salt. Also bagless popcorn is too much work.
Whole Food Plant-Based Man hot air popper is easy or microwave in brown lunch bag 1/4 c for about 3 mins😊
Too much work to put kernels in a paper bag and sticking it in the microwave? Wow...
We use an air popper and we love it. You get big puffy popcorn without any oil at all without putting it in the microwave.
Interesting. Thanks for doing a video on this.
We thought it was also...
The Bragg's brand is in the background of your video during the unfortified section. I'm confused. Is Bragg's a good brand?
READ healthyhomeeconomist she is expanding on Bragg what's wrong with it
Added to a potato and carrot base to make the most delicious, nutritious and healthy "cheese" sauce, it is the bomb!
Thank you very much for this important information
Thanks for watching...
This is a great video very informational. And to get the non fortified is the best for health... noticed a big difference in my nerves and even digestion
Thanks much. I really depend on your nutritional knowledge.
Thank you for that clarifying everything about yeast I bought some with all those ingredients that I wasn’t looking for and I tried just to know about the taste and I didn’t liked it it had a cheese flavor and I looking for one who doesn’t have taste o maybe lighter and thanks to you now I have the information I needed
Glad it was helpful!
Very informative!!! Thank you. :)
thanks for clearing this up for me
6:57 this part confused me. Are the only organic nutritional yeasts grown on grain? I have an organic non-fortified nutritional yeast. It only has 15%of daily value of thiamine in one serving. The Sari foods non-fortified one has loads more. Is the difference because mine is organic?
I guess just give the comment a ❤️ but don’t answer the question. Thanks anyways.
Wow this info was surprising because I 💟 Nutritional Yeast. I put that shit on everything 🤣 Looks like I need to get the unfortified though.
Get Dr. Schulze's Superfood.
Your cruel for not respecting her wishes.
@Panama Jack I cant stop laughing lol

Is Bragg nutritional yeast good?
Very informative. Thank you.
We liked producing that one since we've been consuming for a long time...
I find it increases my anxiety.
Such a thorough video! >>New sub here
Probably: nutritionfacts.org/video/is-nutritional-yeast-healthy-for-everyone/ But just the opposite is true for most; nutritionfacts.org/topics/nutritional-yeast/
we all have autoimmune dis on some level ..just try the organic NON fortified and see how your body reacts 👍🏻
Out of lack of information, I've just bought two bottles of now foods fortified nutritional yeast. Is it too bad to have this type instead of the unfortified ones?
We often resort to fortified if needed/desired...
Excellent info,,thanks a lot.
There is also a debate about how well methylcobalamin is absorbed orally compared to cyanocobalamin. (too lazy to check if I spelled it correctly)
Most useful, thank you. Blessings
And to you!
I've watched this video twice now. I still don't know what a synthetic mineral is or why or how one might synthesize one. How do you make iron? If you can make iron can you also make gold? what kind of alchemy goes into nutritional yeast? Also, if you're concerned about GMO then you're probably not putting nutritional yeast on popcorn anyway because there is no such thing as non-GMO corn.
Is Nutritional yeast basically the same as Brewer's yeast? Either one better than the other? Thank you.
NY is grown intentionally for food, while Brewers is a by product of the brewing industry...
Excellent article, thank you

You're so welcome, thanks for coming by!
Thank you for settling the very much unsettling feeling I've had about this product that I so used to love.
It is, at the end of the day, a manufactured food item, pasteurized and fortified.
Back to the drawing board for me.
Again, many thanks for this video - I'd been on the search for a while. ☆
Great info! Thanks!
Oh my goodness! At last I know why my B12 has been way too high for the past 4 years at least. My Dr kept asking why is your B12 SO high? I am 66 this is not normal. Way too high.
Is the TRADER JOE'S Nutritional Yeast okay to use. It it doesn't say it's fortified and is vegan and gluten-free ? ?
Thank you so much for making this video!!! Nutritional yeast is just one of those ingredients that I was finding hard to understand!
EXCELLENT! Thank you. It's delish, but I think I will return mine to the Health Food Store.
