It's fascinating watching two amazing actresses you grew up watching finally interviewing each other.
And you can really see how genuinely interested they are at each others' experiences.
Variety should have more of these every month.
I shouldn't be surprised by all the critical comments, but I am. I think this was an excellent interview. The woman are down-to-earth but with so much substance. Two incredibly talented and articulate women.
@KesselRunHero and the part where portman whispers about girls going into science...propaganda. this has been talked about. the media has been doing this thing in recent times where they pressure girls to go into this field, which the majority have been consistently disinterested in.

I was first introduced to Michelle Williams basically 20 years ago on a little teen show called, Dawson's Creek. It's quite amazing to see her transcend from that piece of television as a late teen into a woman who has aged very beautifully.
***** I was just being sarcastic, jeez..lol I watched DC from the first episode back in H.S. all the way till the end. But yeah because she's a good and humbled actress.

I love these two together and I can't get over it!
Not only are they two of the most gorgeous and talented women working in Hollywood, they both come across as smart and more importantly, kind. Michelle is such a great interviewer! She doesn't seem to be thinking about her answers, next questions or stories while Natalie speaks, she seems genuinely interested and dazzled by her. I love this series and this episode was especially wonderful to watch. This is how interviews should be and this is how women should speak to and treat each other!
Good on you, Variety for this series and putting these classy ladies together.
So many people are commenting that Natalie is inarticulate. As someone pursuing a PhD, people assume you speak eloquently, which is not my strong suit. I can write like no tomorrow and use $20 words. But when in person, I struggle to get the words out. And that's okay. Natalie does something similar, and is nothing for anyone to judge. We all have flaws when speaking.
Hi Sarah, I know you posted your comment several months ago but I just discovered it. I too am much better expressing myself on paper than in person. I think it is because we are introverts, don't you?

Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman are by far my favorite actresses.
Two of my favourites, they are so special, so expressive and intelligent, not speaking about beauty.
When you're bilingual and come from an academic background, you are constantly looking for the best words and phrases to explain yourself while speaking, specially with complex conversations: your range of expressions is larger. By the time you went for the one you found best (never sure of it) you already lost fluidity and unconsciusly used a blank word to gain time (like "like"). I'm sure this is Natalie's case.
Thank you! I thought the same. Those comments about "they are so inarticulate" are so annoying. I understand that it can throw someone off but it's not a reason to call someone dumb or anything like that. The use of certain words is not an ultimate sign of intelligence. Someone who did not learn certain words or a way of speaking can very well be intelligent.
I think that the reason were rather nerves / excitement caused by difficult subject (unfulfilled ambitions)

Well but's it's not like she's using the pretty words in this conversation following all the likes. Besides Natalie Portman's native language is English. She learned Hebrew afterwards.

What a relief to watch two actors talking who are for one, not speaking over one another, but who are also not consumed with weird energy. The subtle differences in conversational mannerisms in these interviews is weirdly revealing. Watching these two I am suddenly aware of how affected and self-conscious some others have come across.

It was so eerie when Natalie talked about how age 11 is a pivotal time where your career instincts kick in&you just kind of know what you want to do for the rest of your life because that's EXACTLY how old I was when I realized I wanted to be an actor. #accurate

I think it's Cuz she was tryina be sensitive to her, cuz of course she knows what happened with her, but she wanted to just stay on subject about the film and not insinuate or attempt to touch on what happened to her with Heath. But yeah... weird (again, not the right word... maybe awkward...?)
The weird thing is she seems to notice right after she started talking, so she tries to back off and not being too insensitive. She's so graceful. (Both of them)
Well similar in a sense that father of her child dies, but not like her husband, president of the US being assassinated in front of her on a public event. So its not that similar at all.

This feels like a mirror mirror episode of Jackie Kennedy & Marilyn Monroe having a normal conversation Creepy...... Theres also a sort of tension between the the two of them in the very beginning still interesting though
YES!! I noticed the tension too and mentioned it above. I feel like its coming more from Natalie, Michelle is being more laid back. Michelle always says she is shy and Natalie supposedly has a genius IQ, but ironically I find Michelle to be more socially aware. Natalie Portman was just kind of awkward honestly. She is a good actress don't get me wrong, but I don't think she is AMAZING. Michelle I do think is amazing, Brokeback, Marilynn, Manchester by the sea, take this waltz, etc.....

Tommy Siro Well Natalie originally is foreign. She was born in Israel where she lived until she was nine.
Great conversation but where's the rest? Twenty-three minutes? I would have loved to hear more from these two highly talented artists. Also, conversing is an art in itself. I hope to improve my own conversational skills and be this attentive and responsive without "over-questioning" or "over-answering".
