The fact that Atom was a sparring bot not meant for professional fights is cool because it shows that technique and tenacity is more important than pure power.
Apparently that mf is meant for professional fights, since he lasted way longer than most competitors against Zeus. Whoever created Atom was an absolute genius, for a bot not just meant for sparring but is also a 2’nd gen bot and holding its own against Zeus.
@@theretarbconsultant5469 atom is like that one account in MMORPG game where you literally fkin focus raising the defense stats and not offense, although with shadow boxing technique and combine it with Charlie's being a boxer it became much stronger in terms of offense.

ive heard alot of people say they didnt really like the movie, and for me it wasn't the fancy cgi it was how fluid and smooth the fighting looked and how natural it felt, and the sound design really helps nail the gutteral punches and impact of each punch.

The only thing I really hated was the voice control, I mean you would lose seconds on reaction time in a sport that is all about quick reflexes :D Who even thought that was a good idea is beyond me

I like how much sense it makes that Atom performs so well. As a sparring bot it was built to take punishment and yet it’s not used because professionals in such a sport overvalue their robots being powerful and advanced and so think less about technique, but with a small and weak bot like Atom, its controller is forced to play more skillfully if they want to keep up, meaning they have a combination of
A) knowing what windows of opportunity to take and how to take them
B) having the durability to survive until that point
Robot "boxing" became less about the sport and more of a tech demo. Atom and Charlie probably revitalized the sport with their near-win.
You can see in the movie [mostly in the metro fight] atom took alot of hits and didn't actually hurt him physically like in the metro fight he got hit alot of times with the hammer and took it but when he uppercutted metro one time it made his jaw break and made him hit himself.
My head cannon is that robot boxing went through phases. Like how boxing (English boxing to be precise) first had their hands lowered to protect the body due to hitting the head being a rare move due to the lack of gloves in those days. I imagine that Atom was from a phase of robot boxing where defense was seen as more important so his creators used "real steel" unlike the other bots who use lighter materials to keep their bots agile and make their punches faster
I went to theater to watch this movie, with 0 expectation and only because it was about boxing and Huge Jackman was there. Came out from the theater with a huge grin on my face. I loved every second of this movie.

Atom is basically the robot version of Rocky. He's the underdog, came out of nowhere to challenge the champ... and his fighting style is apparently to let the other guy beat on him until they get tired and slow down.
There's actually a name for that tactic in boxing, though it's obviously rarely used: it's called "Rope-a-Dope."

@@frostjira3261 i think that it is because Noisyboy in the lore was the world champion, even defeating zeus, even so that zeus got upgraded just to defeat noisyboy, after that happened, it was decomisioned and removed the titanium armour to replace it with cheap metal

my personal favorite was definitely metro, despite being probably the weakest of them considering he couldnt survive a single uppercut. But he would definitely scare his opponent. He also really gives that junkyard vibe

Legally speaking Zeus won since he knocked down Atom various times, but when that tiny guy took down the giant who never kissed the floor.....just WOAH.

The story was inspired from an episode of the twilight zone, same setting, poor dudes tryna compete using an old bot but since the bot was too broken to actually fight, one of the guys decided to fight in the bot's place since he was a boxer
@@Tom-su4tc Both the movie and that episode are most likely based on a novel with the same name, Real Steel, where a human veteran boxer signs up in the robot boxing competition, in the novel robots were very humanlike, to the point it was hard to tell the difference from a regular human fighter. The novel is pretty much the last fight against Zeus, where the human attempts to outlast and overcome the machine, though I don't remember much of it since it's been years since I last read it.

It was kinda weird, cus the movie almost made it seem like Atom was semi-alive, and had feelings, and had a bond with the boy, but than it never went anywhere
Because it never did. The bot only ever copied either of them. It was never an AI or developed emotions, just a kid getting attached to a fighting robot, like I'm sure the rest of us did as well.

I think that was on purpose, Atom's only as alive as they believed him to be. In the beginning Jack only saw Atom as a rusty has been of a machine only being kept around for the kid and the pay. But by the end he's talking to Atom like a coach to his boxer. He saw himself in that robot and it seemed alive to him once he realized that.
So it was supposed to make you think he had a soul. That he was more than he actually was. Of course we all know he didn’t. But it was supposed to make you feel like he did. We met the bot by it first saving the kid. Like it reached out for him
I read an in article that at one point that was the idea and that it was supposed to be revealed that Atom was "alive" but they decided against it as it would seem too much like a fairy tale.
The fact that Atom almost won against Zeus is not just because he is a sparring bot but also the efforts, the souls Max and Charlie have put into it.
On the other hand, the riches just poured money into building an advanced robot, gave it a God name, but then almost left it to itself. It was Zeus versus Atom + Max + Charlie.
He _did_ win against Zeus. Atom was beating him into the dirt and the only reason he didn’t finish him off was because the bell rang out. If the match kept going though, I guarantee Atom would’ve rocked his shit

I imagine outside of manual mode it has a sort of safety threshold to ensure they can always have the bot leave under its own power to save everyone the nightmare of trying to move it.

its sometihng seen in modern tech, he was running low on battery so he was moving slower to conserve energy due to the AI, like how a phone lowers brightness to conserve energy, but putting it on manual is like turning the brightness up anyway
because the reason it slowed down was to conserve energy and manual mode overrides that because speed and movement is in the control of the user not the a.i or whatever

I know its a movie, but Charlie has quite an impressive sense of reaction in order to tell Atom to react the opposite way he's facing. So he not only has to tell Atom to attack correctly but understand how to make him react to Zues attacks and counter.
Watched the film a while ago, but I think Charlie used to be a great boxer, meaning that he could predict what the bots would do and what would be the best choice. It's one of the reasons Atom lasted that long, he had near-perfect execution of moves in the fights.
sligen charlie was a boxer for quite a few years in the movie,so i guess that gives him a plus when it comes to this.
You pick it up with enough practice. I remember flying RC planes and when they are flying towards you, everything was reversed and I had to concentrate to turn; after a while, I didn't even notice and I flew without thinking about it.

You can feel the tension when Atom lands that first uppercut
This movie was a diamond in the rough. It’s one of my top 3 movies of all time and honestly, I’m glad it never got a sequel because it would ruin the specialness of the film. It could ruin the fighting, the robots, the characters, etc. and I don’t think it could ever recover. It’s a 1 in a million film
Those final seconds of the Zeus fight seeing both Atom and Hugh Jackman tear that fucker up was so satisfying.

I dont even like boxing, but this is one of my favorite movies all time because of nostalgia mixed with epic ass fighting. You camt forget the story tho

One of my fav films ever, I got hit by a wave of nostalgia when this showed up in my recommendation
What’s weird is that Charlie Kenton is like the only competitor with such a boxing experience so like with atom,it suited him a lot making atom a shadow to Charlie Kenton,while other competitors just have bots that look cool and just smash smash smash,especially Zeus since he had special mechanical works and upgrades.

FANTASTIC editing, really smooth and it's more focused on the combat rather than the whole scene.
I member I saw this movie in the theater and it was so unreal. The CGI in this movie was ahead of its time.

Why is this movie more high-tech than the future
I feel like the only reason why atom can take so many punches is because he is a training bot, built to be super heavy in durability so that the other bot users can train against a boxing champ and get better while not having to fix a bot over and over again
This needs a sequel
What I like, and part of why I think there should not be a sequel, is that Atom somewhat symbolizes the relationship between the father and son. The more their relationship deepens and improves, the better Atom fights and more lifelike it appears. If they were going to make a sequel, (which as Real Steel is just Robot Rocky, is possible) they’d have to back track on the development of the characters in some way, which makes for a shitty movie.
*This has to be one of the most underrated movies ever!*

i remembered i was looking through an album of dvd discs when i was still young. eventually, i stumbled on to this movie and was interested then cus i played the game on my phone. i had a dvd player and watched it there. so nostalgic thinking about watching it on my dvd player and that now i can just watch on my phone 🙂
