Two, Caitlin had played already in FIBA tournaments for team USA, both in under 16 and under 19 FIBA world championship. Every time gold. On her last under 19 Caitlin made tournament MVP. Those tournaments are the usual venue were young players are groomed for the main team.
Three, Diana Taurasi made the Olympic team as a rookie, based on her college performance.
My opinion is, that Caitlin was left out for WNBA internal political reasons.
