I was at the Emirates when Pellegrini was in charge and I went to his last Arsenal vs City game with an Arsenal fan. When my friend heard how the Man City fans were jeering Yaya, he asked me "Are they watching the same game as me?" Yaya had moved up the pitch in the last fifteen minutes of the game and was giving the Arsenal defense a torrid time. Yaya's job under Pellegrini was to link defense to attack. Kompany would pass the ball to Yaya and the opposition would wait for him to pass to the attack before they started to press

Yaya Toure was that player for City that is almost impossible to shut him down. You can't press him because he'll just overwhelm you with his strength even if you gang up on him and he can carry a ball from deep into goal by either setting up Aguero, Dzeko, Tevez and Balotelli to score or he'll score himself. Yes everyone talks about De Bruyne and David Silva as the greatest players to play for Manchester City but hardly anyone gives Yaya Toure the respect he earned by helping City from mid table mediocrity to challenging with the elites in every competition. Yaya Toure laid the foundation of success for City and I as a Manchester United fan acknowledge Yaya Toure.

I've said this so many times and because the media bias says David Silva and KDB are better most sheep believe what they are told. Yaya Toure is the best player Manchester City ever had. If you watch all the games back to back that he played in for us, and count every time he lost the ball, KDB loses the ball more in one game than Yaya did in his Man City career. People reading this will scoff until they watch him without putting that rubbish about him being lazy in their head. He probably lost the ball in single figures throughout his City career. No team tried to press him in City's half of the pitch as it was a waste of time. Wait for him to pass the ball then press who he passed it to. The only time I saw a press on him was Liverpool in the Carling Cup final. Even then he had four players on him physically dragging him down and he still managed to toe poke it to a City player and take out the four Liverpool players. Fans don't show the appreciation he deserved but professionals all know. KDB, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, ask any of them off the air and they will wax lyrical about Yaya.

There should be a statue of Yaya alongside Kompany, Sliva and Aguero. A vital link in the spine is missing with those statues. It is so unfortunate that sometime agents effect brilliant players in such a way. The thing I couldn't believe when watching Yaya in his Man City days was how influential he was on both ends of the pitch. He was a destroyer when he needed to be, he was in the right spot to intercept when he needed to be, he made the right pass when he needed to, he seemed to score when his team needed to. He was like a custom player on Fifa that you gave all 99s in the stats and played on semi-pro difficulty.

Yaya is to me the best player our club has ever employed and we’ve since done a lot of experimenting with midfielders and wingers to replace a one in a century kinda guy. KDB is a great successor, the best possible really. but looking at Doku, and Foden, and Bobb and even Josko, whether Pep likes it or not Yaya’s fingerprints are all over the DNA of MCFC and i, as a blue, am so grateful for that.

@@Bruce4lmighty It works for him though, no? Without Guardiola, City would have been another PSG. Every manager has their pros and cons, Pep's pros far outweigh his cons. The players who do fit his style and regimen see great improvement in their overall ability too. Out of all the players who played under him you have less than a handful who complain about the way he conducts himself. Eto'o might love Mourinho, but his best ever season as a footballer was under Pep, who's still at the top of the food chain, meanwhile Mou keeps jumping from league to league taking on smaller teams each time.

Yaya Toure-what a player who could easily excel in any outfield position on the pitch at the highest level and dismantle opposition like save for goal keeping. played champions league final for Barcelona as a central defender against Wyne Rooney and Christiano Ronaldo man united and came out on top. His set pieces were a joy to watch. pressing ability, ball winning ability and passing ability. I haven't talked about goals yet. the most complete player offensively and defensively according to the special one Jose Mourinho. Yaya was robbed a ballon d' Or or even a FIFA men's player of the year award same as Eto and Drogba in my opinion.

few months before leaving city he was considered a retired player, nobody had seen him for ages and he had gave up gaining weight accepting the fact that his career is over... some injuries made pep using him one more time in a crucial match and when we saw him he was a different player (fat). However not only he played well but he earned the motm award and everyone including him believed that he will get more chances so he started working again losing weight and become a beast again but pep told him that its over so he went depressed, regaining weight and then turning back to olympiacos as he promised when he left. fans workship him to this day hes a club legend and everyone was excited seeing him back, he obviously wasnt in a good shape and it took him some time to play but he went in against OFI Crete, he was decent considering that OFI was very energetic and yaya was overweight but he talked with the president saying that he wasnt feeling well with his body and wouldnt want to be a burden to the club so he left to play in a weaker league and club... Yaya had 4-5 quality years but Pep literally destroyed his career, its not about his agend he had his problems ofc but after all he was protecting Yaya the truth is that pep humiliated him but yaya was never creating a problem himself and when things got out of hand even with him being left out of the team seeing pep destroying him he still apologised for his agent instead of complaining about his treatment... As Zlatan said, Pep has no self respect he followed orders from players all his career until he decided to build his teams so that he could act like a jkss.

Obviously 2014 Toure was a GOAT midfielder but this is just stats being misinterpreted completely regarding their meaning. Obviously a midfielder isn’t just going to take potshots all game-he’d get sacked. Strikers miss lots of chances because it’s their job to take shots-loads of them, so only 10% or so go in. Whereas midfielders only take higher value shots on fewer occasions when they present themselves

Agreed, but that still doesn't make it not impressive. Imagine scoring 20 goals in a season while not missing a chance. I know he's a midfielder and taking less shots but it still seems so superhuman.
