My father was born and raised nearby and I spent many summers in those mountains. Thanks for doing this and I will be riding this next year. RIP Dougie.
We've ridden the Tail twice but never the back of the dragon, Great history from the man himself. Planning on riding it this summer, if all goes well. Great interview Colin. U.S. Navy
Very nice overview and interesting to hear from the man who started it. My 91 year old Uncle Joe & I will be heading there in a couple of weeks.... :-)
That was a great place to hang out, I wish that I would have tasted some of the beer. Jawbone sounds like blast! Excellent interview. Larry thank you for your Service 🇺🇸🖤💙🖤
Dang Colin....ai really enjoyed this. Most excellent telling of the story of the who, what, and wherefores. I was really tickled to see it. Thank you for introducing us to THE MAN.
Wow, Larry should comp you some merchandise for the business this video is going to draw. Great job! You really captured the whole experience of being there.
Tremendous job 👏 with this! We had a blast down in Tazewell at the Back of the Dragon. Bummed we couldn't meet you down there. Hope to meet up with you another time Colin!
Excellent Job Colin. I’m hoping since there were 50+ motovloggers there we can give a boost to the area with our videos. Had a blast hanging with you and Jack.
Pete, it was also nice riding with you and your wife I never thought that would happen. And it was even more fun just sitting and talking for a couple hours at the Back Of The Dragon Welcome Center.
Outstanding video. Love the history and how Larry’s vision came to life. When I stopped to pick up a souvenir I had no idea how nice it was. Definitely an eye opener. Well done sir. Take care🤙
Awesome video Colin! I prefer the Back of the Dragon over the more famous Tail of the Dragon too, I feel it's just more fun for riding and much more scenic.
I had lived in Tazewell for a couple of years in the 1980s. I live far away in Maryland now. However, I drive a couple times a year along Rte. 460 to see my family in Buchanan County. I have been wondering what the Back of the Dragon was. Now, I know. This seems like a cool place commemorating the challenging ride from Tazewell to Marion across the mountains.
This was a top-notch interview from one of the most famous interviewers on RUclips. I was amazed to see interviewing equipment you brought on this trip it was like you had this in mind when you left the house. And yes the second interview was better than the first one with better camera angles and lighting. I think you should do a video on the equipment that you used so other RUclipsrs can learn from how they can also do great interviews. Larry and Ron are very great hands-on owners of the Back Of The Dragon. Ride Safe
Haha. Shhh, can’t tell people that my lens wasn’t right on first one. I just have a wireless mic set-up so two people can chat and it’s gets recorded on the GoPro. Thanks for a great weekend my friend. Did you spot the HDR cameo?
This video is proof positive that it's not just about the ride that we all love. It's the people and stories we encounter along the way! Very well done Colin and thank you! I sure wish I could have made it to VAMM21 but I can still make it up there another time.
Yes Sir it is!! I've found that bikes tend to be a catalyst for conversations even when the ones we meet don't ride. Seems I always learn something from chance encounter conversations!! Brotha, you may see me before next year. Im planning a trip to New Jersey to visit family sometime in the next couple months!!
Colin, this was a very good video and I even watched it twice. Great interview with Larry. Thank you Larry for your service and for what you have started there with the Back of the Dragon. Having lived in VA most of my life, dunno how I never did that ride. Guess next time I go up to visit I'll have to do that ride and visit the center. Thank you Larry and Colin for this video!
Very cool, none of that was there on my first visit (May '17), last time through (Oct. '19) that building was a shell (but the dragon was there). I'd like to know who does these curve counts; first time I was there it was wetter than what shows in this video, I took it rather easy, may have lost track at one point but I counted 365 curves. The Snake claims 489, haven't tried to count those, but I believe the Tail's count is rather higher than reality as well. Oh, the guy who takes the photos at the Tail is named Kill Boy, not Killroy. Similar outfit on The Snake, Country Life Photography, got some great pics from my last run through there (fortuitous timing, no other vehicles visible in the photos, just my bike).
Neither do I but at the time I'd never heard an "official" count and was curious what I'd come up with. I think the Tail's "official" number is far higher than the real number.
Orvis came down and stayed with us. The three of us had a house right in Tazewell. He is an amazing young man and a lot of fun to ride with. And yes he puts his helmet on the ground I needed to teach him to put it on his mirror?
@@HarleyDayRider Pat is a Trans-soul-ite... He accidently got an old man's soul in his young man's body..... Luckily for him, time will even things out soon enough without surgery or hormone therapy. 🤔

Cool place, cool ppl, and had a great time playing on stage there, thanks for the hospitality from a guitar player who closed the season
That’s so cool. Love that place. Appreciate the comment
That's awesome. Thank you Larry and thank you Broncoride.
Appreciate that Ken.
My father was born and raised nearby and I spent many summers in those mountains. Thanks for doing this and I will be riding this next year. RIP Dougie.
RIP to Dougie sir. I’m glad you got to experience the area with him. Enjoy your trip.

Nice on the Navy. You two will really enjoy this road.
Colin, even though I watched you producing this, it is beyond words. Superb and thank you for sharing this.
Thanks Bob and it was a pleasure talking with you.
I am not sure how to say it other than Excellent. Thank you!!
Thank you my friend
Wow! What a big difference from when we were there!! Awesome story and what a great guy! They really did thad place up right👍
The new Welcome Center is worth going back, dontcha think?
@@johngilbert1047 absolutely!
Amazing how they transformed an empty shell into this.
Great Video, we go to the area every Sept ride all over TN,NC, and VA we do all the named roads and a bunch we found by getting lost.
Those are the best. I got lost leaving the area and I’m glad I did. Tons of great riding.
Very nice overview and interesting to hear from the man who started it. My 91 year old Uncle Joe & I will be heading there in a couple of weeks.... :-)
You guys will have fun there. Their food they have there is quite tasty.
That was a great place to hang out, I wish that I would have tasted some of the beer. Jawbone sounds like blast! Excellent interview. Larry thank you for your Service 🇺🇸🖤💙🖤
The beer or beers were really tasty. Have to love the IPour system. Larry was so awesome to talk with.

Thank you Judi. What a great guy!
What a great story and interview
Thanks my friend
This is probably one of the best VLOGS you've done. Again AWESOME work.
Thank you my friend.
That is awesome! Makes me happy to see successful veterans! He's built a nice business and a great service for folks!
I didn’t know about the flags, so that was an added bonus.
Great video! That shop was so cool and I can’t wait to go back. Plus that iPour system was off the chain. Thanks for the beers sir!!!
I’ve never seen the IPour before. That was very cool.
Wow, Larry should comp you some merchandise for the business this video is going to draw. Great job! You really captured the whole experience of being there.
Haha. I just held the camera. Larry was amazing.
Fantastic story. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you John.
Awesome! Did not know of this road but now on the bucket list.
It’s a great road for sure.

There were many people I didn’t get a chance to meet either. You think it would have been easy, right? Definitely on meeting another time.

Heck of a story there Brother, it sounds like you found the right guy to talk to, 💯👊🏽😎
I just asked who could tell me about the history and they pointed me to him. 😎
Thumbs-up that was a good one. Catch you later brother

Thanks brother. Very cool to meet you too. Great place to hang out.
Man I was just next to that area on the BRP and skyline drive. Need to take that.
Not too far from the BRP. Think around 350 range from DC.

Well worth it. I like the Tail but this road is one of the better ones for sure.
Colin this was excellent! I mean this is documentary worthy! Awesome job.
Thanks Toby. I just asked some questions and he showed his passion.
Such a great place....
Absolutely it is
Glad you did that.

So cool will put it in the list just got back from the tail. DEALS GAP went down it ar nite wet rode scary lol
These roads were wet first couple days. As long as you take it easy, still very enjoyable.

Thanks for correction in name. I couldn’t recall it. I normally don’t count the curves. 😎

Nice view and neat roads someone should install like park 🗑️ trash cans hell of a lot of garbage being thrown up there
I did notice that. Good callout
Cool yes, interesting yes..... Many thanks to Larry 👍
Was that Orvis's bike parked next to yours with his helmet plopped on the wet ground????
