MTG’s time rule does not look at life in swiss. This is incorrect. MTG gives you 5 extra turns and if the game isnt over, it’s a draw. The rule you said is only for top cut where draws are not possible

I feel like most of the issues you bring up here are valid, but they really only affect tournament players (and more importantly tournament winners). What I'm seeing in my local community is that average players who don't really go to anything but locals and enjoy playing with friends are also dropping the game because it's just not fun anymore (stale meta, card availability/pricing, etc). Fixing things for high-level tournament players definitely matters, but unless big changes are made on the level of 'normal' players, more and more people are going to switch to other games.

And I HOPE, I really HOPE that there is a massive EXODUS from yugioh all together so Konami NEEDS to change something. They need to be changing sth so it gets better and i not only mean 3 months of ok-ish format better. They need to be caught with the back to the wall so we could even have a chance at yugioh becoming a good game again.

For time rules I would just straight up not count LP, if the game is not finished then it is a tie. In that case you could even give the turn player the full turn to try to win the duel. This would remove all the slowplay into burn/heal shenanigans that currently happens. It would generate more ties, that's true, but I feel it's a fair price to pay to remove the toxicity of burn/heal into slow play.
As for prizing, I have no idea why we don't have an OTS-like pack for YCS top cuts. A special pack with 3 random cards from a small pool of meta relevant cards in a special rarity similar to quarter century but instead of the 25th stamp it's the ycs logo. The higher the top you finish the more packs you get. One could sell the packs or open them and sell the cards individually, and it would cost almost nothing to konami to create those prize ots.

Some things I'd like to see done or improved upon (Not all of these are practical)
1.) Alternate Formats like legacy formats (Goat, Edison, etc), rule-bending formats (Trinity, Domain, etc), and other versions of the game (Rush)
2.) A good onboarding system/process for newer people to get into the game (Online Duel Academy)
3.) Having more and more legacy support and cutting down on pack filler and newer archetypes, save for lore decks.
    4.) Card design
    5.) Prizing
    6.) Pricing
    7.) Community relations/communication
8.) No excellent encyclopedia of rulings that the TCG and OCG share (That I know of)
    9.) Product/set design
Oh in speaking of imagine if they made Action and Turbo dueling real?

Your “time rules” section was incredibly inaccurate, MTG does not end by life in time, Pokémon only ends as you said if there is a gentleman’s’ agreement, other wise it’s decided by 3 turns. Lorcana is a bo2 in competitive environments, so everything there is wrong also. I’d recommend doing research before posting nonsense.

Very well thought out statement on all of these. I’m almost ready to say if Konami is going to keep making minimalistic engines then there should be an addiction to the limited list saying you can only have so many handtraps total and only 1 copy of each, similar to duel links where you can only have so many cards in your deck that are mark limited. Sadly to do that Konami would have to acknowledge the term hand trap which I’m not sure why they are so hesitant to do, it’s what they are.

    Here are my opinions:
    - Prizing: I think prizing should never be the reason to play a tournament. It's a problem for a select few pro players that try to earn money/their livelyhood with the tournament play. I do agree with your points on prizing though. Make cool prize cards that actually get played and not only for YCS's, Nats, WCQ's or even World's. Make reprint of meta or staple cards. Ideally with exclusive alternative artworks or an exclusive rarity for the premiere event (aka YCS rarity). Getting a playset of Ash in an exclusive artwork or rarity you can't get otherwise? Sounds like the ultimate bragging right. The same could even go for smaler events like regionals with an e.g. Ultimate Rare of a strong card from the current main set (e.g. currently Mulcharmy Perullia). I could even see this to a lesser extent for big release events. I've topped a bigger release event and got prize packs, the exodia info mat (very cool) and the limited promo Millenium Anch ... a card NOBODY plays or even wants. Sure I can have it in my binder but it's not a cool card to have. Pick a relevant card, it doesn't need to be engraver. Even the mini-goddess as a high rare would've been a good pick.
    - Card design: I wonder what the stances are on this in the OCG (aka do they like crazy 1-card starters like SE-Ash). If yes the TCG is kinda cooked and depends on fast and regular banlists. A scheduled release of the banlist (like every 3 months at the end of the month) would be a huge help. People already knew how to handle the current format and tournaments better because they knew when the list will drop. I do really hope the list hits SE hard, but that won't solve the current power creep longterm, that is a question of card design and I hope they tone it down and make new archetypes like White Forest which isn't nearly as crazy as SE, Yubel, Fiendsmith, Tenpai, ...
    - Communication: We saw how pleased players were with knowing when the next banlist drops. Keep stuff like this up. It's a relatively easy task and will do much for players. Maybe release statements on prevelant feedbacks and how you might aim to adress this in the short or longterm future. I have only returned to the game last winter but the complaints since then have been exactly the same. Adress those, explain why or why not you will change things. Easy as that.

Regarding the time rule: What if...we dont have 20 minute combos? If I watch my opponent playing with himself for 20 minutes, then I have no regrets to burn him and win the game. The time rule could be the real hard counter to overcomplicated super long combos which nobody enjoys watching (the 482th time).

With how long turns are nowadays, getting additional turns at the end of time would probably be the worst for swiss but probably fair for top cut. There wont be judges at every table, people will just think longer since the game is on the line and there would be no time pressure. You would end up with minimum 30+ minutes on top for each round. If you are playing 9 rounds, thats atleast 4,5 hours on top. Doesnt work out for tournament organizers since they have rental contracts, nor would i personally want that as a player. Longer waiting time especially when you do finish your round quickly and longer days overall.

If Konami decides to do deck count for time rules then they'd have to change the 40min-60max deck build rule to a solid state 50 for all players. Deck count punishes players that streamline their deck at 40c and rewards the players that play 41+c.

But I don't agree with your idea to time rules. It's there to end a round that's too long and Yu-Gi-Oh has too long turns to fit in an acceptable overtime. I don't have a solution for this but to add additional 30 mins to let both players play isn't an option for me

  • @lifequality

Mr. Galzo, the one card engines aren’t really the new direction of Konami in terms of mechanical innovation. They are - imo - doing this stuff because they themselves want to spend as little time and money on game testing and balancing as possible on yugioh. One card combos are so much easier to design for them, they are easier to hit, they wrap the game around them so they are easier to build new product around them. Is it better tho? Hell no. It’s probably one of the most problematic things they are doing to the game but it makes their job easier for them. That’s why I believe that we will be seeing a lot, and i mean A LOT of one card combo decks in the future. This problem isn’t just one deck that got a little bit too much power. It’s their way of giving the game a direction and an easy way to maintain it with little effort. This is not possible when you have a format with 10 viable tier 1 decks where you never be able to predict which deck survives banlists and comes out on top again even after newer decks have become a thing. That would be dope to see as a player, but as the corporation, Konami clearly prefers tier 0 or almost tier 0 formats. They are much nicer and easier to manipulate for them.

  • @scott898586
    @scott898586 2 месяца назад +1

    1. Time rules are unlikely to change. They were designed for TOs and venues to end events on time. You don't pay the judges, the TO/Konami do. It sucks for the players, but it wasn't really designed for the players to begin with. You are completely underestimating how long into time extra turns goes in this game. Stop comparing other games to yugioh. almost all of them are MTG clones and for those games turns can work. It has been proven for over a decade that turns do not work for yugioh.
    2. Prizing sucks and should be reworked. No one is contesting that point and have been complaining for decades now. We would need the reprint policies of other games to make your new rarity exclusive copies as prizes to actually hold those massive price tags.
    3. Card design and konami's lack of communication and failures with the F/L list have been brought to the light numerous times. They do not care because there hasn't been the threat of a mass exodus that was ever real. YGO players tolerate the most abuse from the designers of their game.

Fantastic video Galzo! Yeah the Circular design has to end.
On the prizing side i think has lefting some things; first lorcana is not cheap, but you have cheaper options to play, no obligation to buy one engine (now Fiendsmith, was Kashtira, Brave), it's has varience, every deck in yugioh looks almost the same, with a feel exepctions that you named, Despia, Runick combo, Tear, every deck should look like those ones. In yugioh we need to do a research, cause i feeling this is the most expensive ever yugioh, just like you i have been playing for a long time with breaks in between (since 2014), in my experience i never felt price out of meta like the SE and Fiendsmith ones, i will not play a Stun (Ritual beast and Tenpai are fancies stuns to be honest) or a ftk deck! And don't want every deck to be 150-250 USD but, 700 to 1k USD is wayyy out of hand. So if the game is more expensive (and btw life is more expensive in every corner of the world since the pandemic) the prize needs to follow. Just my thoughts.
Btw the one piece idea is really good! Love it!
PS: KeyYGO has a fantastic video about the "casual" yugioh experience, i think people should watch and comment in that. This is a huge problem that's gonna hurt yugioh more and more. Just a spoiler there's is difference between a for fun player and casual player. 👍🏽

Regarding the topic of prizes, I couldn't agree more; cash prizes would only highlight the "pay to win" mentality that everyone complains about. However, I think they should give out reprints, or directly increase the card prizes for the top placements (giving booster boxes/displays from the top 128/64 would make many people feel that their entry fee was worth it and that reaching the top yielded a "profit"). They could even highlight exclusive sleeves, mats, or alternative artworks to differentiate the top cut.
On the subject of time, I disagree. It’s not the fault of the cards that gain you life points when time is running out. If your game relies on using an absurd number of cards, a card like the little nun helps balance that. Additionally, you could use infinite combos to burn time.

A lot of players come from watching the animes, so they wanna live out the duel dream. But we get on master duel and just fight meta dog decks. We need an accepted format where you are playing a pure deck not a mix and mash of the best stuff. Like the meta decks can even be ran here as long as they stick to only their cards alone and then we can go with bans from there. I just feel the biggest breakthrough for yugioh would be to fix the formats rather than the competitive tourney scene.

F*ck handtrap and negates, balance the game by deleting and semi-limiting overpowered engine and let the game be a playable game.

My counter argument to games taking to long is if someone knows their deck inside and out it shouldn't take them more than a minute and a half to go through 10-20 cards when I play those decks and my opponent doesn't quit I have it done in less than 2 minutes. If your taking that long to play a deck you shouldn't be in a tournament yet because you're not done practicing your combos. To play at a high level thats what it takes. When I play I expect Droll, Nibiru, Ash Blossom, and if I lose to Shifter because of my deck choice I just lose. My deck choices generally don't lose to any 1 single hand trap. If I choose rouge deck I choose a deck like Vanquish Soul or Red D. Archfiend or any deck that used to be a meta deck. I'll play decks like Dark Magician but my bottom line when I play in ranked matches on Dueling Nexus is rouge decks I know I can beat any deck with.

Try changing the time rule to the player with less life points win. If you burn too much you might be susceptible to your opponent popping out some burn card. IDK.

Implementing a chess clock would solve consuming time intentionally. 20 mins each for a full round. Also. Run out of time is an automatic loss. Even if you were 1-0 winning. The set. Run out of time, lose the set

Lorcana is not cheap? I got TWO fully competitive meta decks for 350 bucks. How much can you get with that in yugioh? 5 cards. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Naw we definitely need better prizes and money prizes would definitely improved the game! Especially when u spending $900-$1,200 on cards to win and when u win! You win pretty much nothing! So yes prizing definitely matters

Please, I, i'm literally the one that started saying competitive integrity, and you go, you know that word because of me, I coined that term. And trust me, y'all don't want to talk about competitive integrity. Especially with the adderall usage and the intimidation, and how some people will force misplays. On other people, you guys have no competitive integrity. That's the one biggest problem with you.Gail in my opinion. That's all the ridiculous you know. Way the game works that you guys have issues with that's how the game works. Get over it, either, adapter, you don't.These pros are mad because they can't adapt. fast.Enough
