My SAK Fieldmaster saw may be a "slow cutter" of Dogwood, but it's pretty much bulletproof. The thick blade is very sharp and has stayed that way for 10 years. The spine is a great scraper and ferro rod striker, also. Let's take off another branch from the dead Dogwood tree in my front yard, saw it up, process it, then use the spine of the saw to ferro rod ignite it. Please follow the LINK below and SUBSCRIBE. We’re on a journey together, one branch at a time. Your observation is spot on, I’ve already made six videos from six branches off that tree. It’s going to be a slow but steady process.
I have my Fieldmaster on me at all times. Being that it's lawnmowing season, I use the parcel hook to lift the solar lights out of my lawn. Works great every time.
Here are some things I didn't know about it... The Firefly is made from a superior custom ferrocerium misch-metal formula, which provides greater flexibility, making it less brittle and giving it double the break strength of a typical firesteel or ferrocerium formula
I don't know a lot about the firefly, but I put them in the 2 Swiss army knives I own though it was a net ideal for emergency use. I usually will take a good fire rod out with me just for emergency use 😁
Hi David! We've gotten a lot of use out of that dead dogwood. When you started mowing, it reminded me of when you had just gotten the sod laid for the yard. That was about two years ago, I think. Time really does fly.
All the folks who make fun of SAK's are the ones who've never owned one. They are excellent tools. I carry one every day. Yes, that saw is super sharp and comes in so handy.
Swiss Army Knives are akin to a good dog that just wants to be a buddy. Scalpel sharpness can be maintained by regular stropping on jeans - no need for expensive stones. Wish my dog could have outlived my SAK. Might have mentioned it before, but Victorinox will refurbish any SAK for free if the owner pays for the shipping. I like the Handyman, but it's more expensive than the SwissChamp? Either way, they are excellent values, IMHO.
@@randy-9842 - I learned about it after I gave away my damaged swiss champion that I got in 1985. I had a lot of great memories with that tool and had zero clue that a free spa treatment was an option. Big regret to botch that one. Spread the refurbishment word if you get the chance.

Thanks again. My fav SAK is the “Farmer” a little bit bigger for my fat hands and only essential tools including a saw. BTW Felix Immler shows batoning with a SAK but only with the blade at right angles to the handle to lessen damage to the hinge and spring. …Joe
@DavidWestBgood2ppl last night I was putting a paracord lanyard on a mora "light my fire"..the hole was a tad to small to thread the paracord..got the pin out..no problem..I've learned so much from you dave..thank you!
David West ❤. Tray to use latherman wave. Or latherman signal Or latherman surge ❤❤❤❤❤we like to see you handle. Latherman products ❤ it's amazing to have any knife of latherman multi tools. ❤.
Indeed, thou art correct! Mine hair hath been trimmed, and I am pleased thou hast noticed. Verily, a change in one’s visage can be as refreshing as a cool breeze on a summer’s day. I thank thee for thy keen observation! 😄
Have owned 2 SAKs, only have one now. First one was not as big as the one shown, long ago but I don’t recall a saw. Used the blade hard and found that the steel was much better than in most of my other knives. Spine didn’t burr when batonning it with a hammer (precise cross-grain cuts on small wood pieces for some project). Easy to sharpen, and and the edge lasted well for whittleling. Now I have a 2.5 inch (total length) keychain one, probably a knockoff because no branding anywhere. Still, it looks and works like I know Victorinox. Have used the scissors mostly, then the blade, and once the tweezers. Never used the toothpick, but read a comment below about swapping that out for a sparker. Interesting idea, to substitute it with something else, now the gears are a’clickin’ lol. One thing else this keychain one has, that I’ve never used, is a file. Maybe one day I’ll use it on my fingernails, maybe not, but it might make an OK double-edged augur if the symmetric pointed end spines were sharpened to scrape. Wouldn’t cut holes in leather belts, like the augur tool on my first price, but might be useful for some things. Good vid, and good comments.

Removing a dead tree from the yard one fire video at a time! 😂 Love my early model SAK Champion! As always, smokin' video!

They make a fire rod for the Swiss army knife that fits inside the toothpick slot. It's small but it works in a pinch. 😁

6 branches in as many videos. Yes, 2 years ago.
Every Swiss Army knife I own, the saw for its size is fantastic. Thank you for another great video 😊
I've been wanting to get one of those for years now, you just renewed my interest
You'll enjoy it.
Love SAK all of mine have the saw in common Forester camp Walker❤❤🔪✨🔥🇨🇱
Always enjoy watching
It’s interesting to know that all your SAKs - the Forester, Camp, and Walker - have this in common. They’re all fantastic models.
Thanks for another video. That's one impressive knife.

I agree. TY!
THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the few joys of being a man, and home owner.....just getting outside and cutting the grass.
Mowing the lawn, tending the garden, making home improvements, etc brings a sense of accomplishment and peace.
Never took that saw seriously. Guess I was wrong, lol.
It has surprised me also, over the years.
Great knife David, thanks for sharing YAH bless brother !

Thank you for mentioning the refurbishment service offered by Victorinox. This is indeed a fantastic service that not everyone might be aware of.
@clintstinkeye5607 - I agree with your "dog comparison" _(and your wish)._ I did NOT know about the refurbishment deal. THANK YOU for posting that!

I've seen others do it at right angles, tried it, and it worked well.
Dave..do you have the hole for the straight pin? I've got a huntsman that does and that is REAL handy to have! Love this channel!
Yes, no pin though.

It’s great to hear about your experiences with the SAKs. The file on your keychain could indeed come in handy someday.
