I feel bad for Mahut, he was absolutely exhausted after the match, fell into a kind of depression. He only mentioned this years later too. Poor guy. Still no less of an absolute beast that John Isner though. Both are studs.
Kudos to Mahut who had to serve 68 times to stay in the match in the fifth set... If he had been serving first in the last set, I wonder how far Isner would have gone under similar pressure. There were 2 winners in this match, the two players who wrote a legendary piece of tennis History.
I honestly thought this wouldn't end until it did. Such an epic game of tennis! There's Wimbledon Finals and then there's this match between Isner v Mahut.
Utterly unreal that Isner just couldnt break Nico's serve. Smh. Not so unreal that Nico was unable to break Isner's but kudos to Mahut for hanging with him for so long, despite that utterly demoralising position. Was so sorry he didnt come out the winner. And if it weren't for just this ONE bloody player, we would still have full 5-sets at Wimby. A total travesty.
Este partido cambio la historia del tenis, si no hubiera pasado nunca, probablemente wimbledon no se definiría en un tiebreak en el 12-12 del quinto set y probablemente, aunque nunca lo sabremos, federer hubiera ganado el titulo en 2019
Yeah players shouldn't be "rewarded" with a tie-break if they aren't good enough to break the other players serve. i get that it kinda ruined the 2018 final because anderson was too tired but its his own fault for not being good enough to break isners serve in the 5th or just beat him before it got to 5 sets.
@@deusexmachina9776 It doesn't matter, it's a fair result, the tiebreaker just ruined the momentum. I was hoping for Federer to collapse after he got broken but it came the other way around, he played those last games better than in any other stage in the match.
They did because of this match only. This match played over 3 days. I wonder what if this match would have over 5 days like cricket test match. People will get bore. There has to be a solution and tie break at 12-12 is good idea.
After just now watching John Isner get hurt at Wimbledon, I’m of the opinion it might just be too dangerous to play right now. We can send rovers to Mars but we can’t dry grass quickly? If many more players keep on getting injured we might have to take a pause here.
Is there a chance that marathon tennis is going to return? Or even lengthen a bit the 5th set tiebreak, like 10 all instead of 6 all and first to make 10 pts?
The only players that were constantly involved in these types of matches were Isner and Karlovic. When these long advantage set matches featured anybody else, it was a treat to watch. This whole tiebreak stuff was an overreaction to Isner playing the longest Wimbledon SF ever because he can't break serve. Nobody complained when Kevin Anderson and Roger Federer went 13-11 in the fifth in the QF. Nobody complained when Rafa played Gilles Müller, and they went 15-13 in the fifth. It was only because of Isner, again, playing a long match with his poor return game and unbreakable serve.
It cannot happen again at Wimbledon because the final set is the first to 13 if that happened in that game it would have been about a 5 hour game not 11 hour!
@@galaxytb147 It was a knee-jerk reaction to him again playing a long match that just happened to be a Wimbledon SF. Advantage set matches were rare, and when they happened, and didn't include Isner or Karlovic, they were quite special.
Glad they got rid of this idiotic rule. Final set tiebreak is way more exciting, plus gives the winner a fighting chance next match. Isner had 112 aces this match, and 0 his next match.
Took 138 games for one player to actually show as short as any rally was in this match he could actually string a few past his opponent to break serve. And Isner once pointed out he would like to be remembered as an all-rounder. No sir. Not after this performance. Really a tragedy for tennis.
Imagine playing over 11 hours of Wimbledon tennis ... and losing in the 1st round!
Well imagine losing at the final.. that would be even worse!
He did play nearly 10 hours of qualifier matches just to get to that match. He won his final qualifier 24-22 in the final set.
Typical from our French tennis squad 😂
@@Robi9944 not in term of price money
At least Mahut spent longer at Wimbledon than many players who are there for multiple rounds 😄
Me: Quarantine wont be that long

Mahut has done well for himself since this match. He recently won his 5th doubles grand slam at Roland Garros 2021 with Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
Doubles 😂😂😂😂😂 terrible standard

One of the greatest feats in sport’s history, period. Absolutely unbelievable.
Imagine being mahut when isner hit the passing shot on the match point on 68-69
Salute to Nicolas❤️🙏
I dont even think hes gonna care in the long run, it made him famous forever
@@bitanmandal977hello
Honestly surprised either of them ever played again after this match. The physical and mental endurance it must have taken.
Saw him play on thar court at this years Wimbledon. I was stood right behind him
He's a giant
Played over three days. This is like test cricket
Months after the match while on David Letterman:
John Isner: Why couldn't I played Federer would have been over in 15 minutes 🤣
I watch the match every morning to get me pumped for the day
Haha for a graveyard shift huh?
John seems like such a nice person.
John isner had to play his second round in a few hours 😂
And lost in straight sets and only won like 5 or 6 games
Sees the match fixtures realises he's gotta play in a couple hours
Ahhh *sh*t*
I still remember this 😍
If I was Mahut I probably would have quit tennis the next day. Losing that match is a bruh moment if i've ever seen one
Imagine serena wining 7 matches with 6-3,6-2 margin in 11 hours combined with her muscle power and this guy wrestling for 11 hours for first round...

Agreed. 2019 final was such an anticlimax going to a tiebreaker after 12-12. I could have watched that match all day long
Federer; novac play cannot compare with this game;this is another class
Djokovic and Nadal once played a 6 hr final. 6 hrs of play in one day.
If someone could count how much calories were burned in that match, that will be great.

Wimbledon ruined last year final with that crap of the 12-12 rule.

I hate the tie break rule in general. I still believe Djokovic would have won despite that, he did beat Fed twice before in W finals

Can’t happen now.. which is a shame. In knockout football penalties keep going until there is a result - in theory it can go on forever.
This longest game will never ever again because when 5sets will 12:12, they will do tiebreak game.
11 Hour 5 minutes match, 8 minutes 52 seconds recap

So glad they changed the rules about not having a tiebreak in the final set. Just gets ridiculous otherwise!

They should put Tie break in 15-15 at least in Wimbledon in 5th set actually
Tennis games must be shortened otherwise more of such matches will go on for four to five days.😊
