You did it!! What many you tubers have failed to do. To walk me thru step by step to get these freakin songs from iPod into iTunes on a Win 10 pc. Literally have been trying to do this for years, you guided me thru it in 5 min. Bravo and thank you!!!!
I have an Ipod Nano with loads of music on it and it was driving me crazy that I may have to lose teh music in order to sync other music with it. I followed your guide to the letter and including the 12 minutes it took to transfer the folders from the Ipod to my PC, it took me less than 20 minutes to complete the process! I now have all of my music in itunes and can now synch whatever I need. Thanks!
Thanks Cody, you're a life saver. I had 97GB of music on my i pod classic and thought I had lost it all when my computer crashed. It didn't transfer my playlists but at least it saved all my music. Well done.
Thanks Cody for the useful video i can say to anyone watching this does still work on Itunes version 12.6 in 2017 on a Windows 10 machine. Screw Apple for making me have to go through such a stupid process for doing it but fortunately we got people like Cody to help us workaround it.
I’ve been trying to do this for years!! Honestly I thought this wasn’t going to work since the vid is 9yo but it still works!! Try it! If it doesn’t work, rewatch coz you probably missed a step like I did the first time I tried
My computer is old and has crashed 3 or 4 times in the last few years. So this isn't the first time I've had to restore Itunes, but I could never remember all the steps involved. So thank you brother, much appreciated!
Thanks... I thought everything was gone ....I might have lost a couple of songs but a majority of them were still on my iPod even though I hadn't plugged it in to my computer for 2 weeks....OMG thanks Cody
I found an old 5th Gen Ipod Shuffle in a pair of jeans I washed. Realized I had over 8 years of music and memories stored on the thing, and freaked. Long story short I managed to save the music, followed everything on this video and it worked perfectly. I did have a question tho, half of the music now in the library is still the 4 letter combination of random letters.. any idea why or how to fix that? Thanks again dude, still helping people almost 10 years later!
This was awesome information, it worked perfectly on my ipod shuffle. I took it step by step and your instructions were very clear. Something that actually worked I am so impressed.
Thank you so much for this information. I was able to follow your instructions and it worked like a charm! Other videos with similar instructions did not work for me. Thank you for sharing this important information. I really appreciate it!
I am so grateful to you for this tutorial. I followed it and hey presto...my library was back again. Thank you so much for saving me from despair after I inadvertently deleted my library in a senior moment....Diane from Wales
For those of you with ipod touch or newer apple products there is a free program called Ifunbox. It will let you do this for those who only see "DCMI" files by using this method. You have to figure it out and learn how to use it but it will work. If you need help Im sure you can find vids on youtube to help.
thank you very much! 2016 still works for the latest itunes, only few songs still retained the coded name format after transferring, and shown on the itunes song list, a little tedious to change the name one by one but not too much of an inconvenience
My songs have managed to go into iTunes, thank you! The only problem is that the songs that I have just added to my library are named weirdly. They don't have the song title written, they're scrambled up letters like they were in the folders
If you’re still around - My son finally got around to replacing a computer that crashed about 5 years ago (think “last iPhone synced was my 5c”!). It was a computer he built. Anyway, I had hundreds of CDs saved on the HD. My son said he transferred them all over, but. They show up as “file not found” no matter how I search for them. I’ve got many backed-up on an old Nano, but I remember when a previous computer crashed, when I synced the Nano all the music files on it disappeared. Now my iPod touch is nearly full, and slow. I want to load all my music back to my new HD, but don’t want to plug in the iPod only to have all my music disappear again.
First of all, HUGE thanks for all your help. (I love your voice, very confident!) I got everything to move just the way you said, but on iTunes, the songs are presented as 4 capital letters rather than the titles. Is there any way to get titles/artist instead of the letters?
Mine only has the DCIM Folder, it doesn’t have iPod control or anything else, I turned on show hidden files. I’m using an iphone and a computer with windows 10.
Yeah, I'm having the same problem now using a 7th gen iPod. Maybe this video's technique worked a few years ago. There must have been some recent Apple update that doesn't allow this method to work anymore. ☹
Cody you have been able to help many people on here from what I see. I have an iPod something in thing hard drive went out now they are saying it's to old to maybe fix. I just want my music on my newer one same type as well. And I can't even get it to come on now. I did a couple of days ago. But am feeling like music needs to be on my computer somewhere. And found some from more than likely that year. I need HELP!! Badly!! I know they say once it's been online it's out there some where. Can you please help me?????
If u buy a new lap top. What I did was hold some button down.then your device folder will open then u can drag all the files from your iPods device to new folders on your computer then download iTunes and drag songs from those folders onto iTunes is what I did. But sadly forgot what buttons I held should connecting to make my ipod device folder open
okay so i did this and it worked for most of my songs, but i still have over 600 songs that are called HDJX and WIFB and just stuff with random letters, and they have no information like artist, title, artwork. what do i do?
I only lost about 100 songs the rest of my ITunes library is still intact. Is there a way to only add back the 100 songs from my IPad to Itunes? I'm guessing with the Apple file structure it would be difficult to identify the songs? Thank youi.
Thank you, it worked! Before I started, I changed the iTunes settings so that it wouldn't automatically synchronize with the ipod, or else it might have wiped my ipod blank(?) I have a minor issue though, most of my songs have their normal names, but some are called stuff like HCTF and the like, why didn't they get their normal names back?
Howdy Cody, This isnt working on my Ipod version 12.5.5 I'm not seeing the files on mine that I;m seeing on yours. After changing to show hidden files I did click of Apply and closed the window. I am going to reboot my computer and give it another shot. I'' come back and let ya know if it did or not. Ok, I'm back and that didnt help, it's not working on mine. So Apple may have came up with another way to lock those hidden files. All I see when I try it is, Internal Storage, DCM, 100 Apple, 100 Cloud. When I click on those all I see are photos that stored on it. So what else can I try?
I used linktunes to put all of my songs on my iPhone, I just got a new computer and I want to put them on there but this doesn’t work. Please help someone
GREAT VIDEO HOWEVER MY FILE TRANSFER FROM IPOD FOLDER TO MUSIC FOLDER IS NOT WORKING WELL. ITS TAKING A INSANE AMOUNT OF TIME AT 0% EVEN DOING 1 FILE AT A TIME ... ANY HELP??????
I have an ipod touch gen 5 and already did the show hidden folders but my ipod only shows a folder called internal storage and inside that is one called dcim and inside that is just 2 folders 823WGTMA and 860OKMZO but they only hold my pics but no other folders. ive been to literally 6 other videos and nothing. so is there something that im missing that you can help with?
I just tried a hundred different things man, I've got a 4th gen iPod touch. I guess the touch just doesn't show up unless it's got pictures. My nano will do it but not my touch. Fuckin Apple man.
Korey Easterby ya apple fucking sucks. when I my itunes updated about a year ago i lost all my songs on it but not my ipod thank god. However the only way to re download them was pay 33 cents PER SONG which i already bought for $1 each. and that was the day i never bought anything from apple again. this is my last ipod too. they are a horrible company!
You did it!! What many you tubers have failed to do. To walk me thru step by step to get these freakin songs from iPod into iTunes on a Win 10 pc. Literally have been trying to do this for years, you guided me thru it in 5 min. Bravo and thank you!!!!
December 2020 and just saved over 5500 songs from a 13 year old iPod. Thank you!!
Thanks!
7200 songs transferred! I wish I could have kept my play counts, but this will do. Great tutorial and worked like a gem.
After a week of no success your tutorial has cracked it THANKS !!!!
Thanks Cody, you're a life saver. I had 97GB of music on my i pod classic and thought I had lost it all when my computer crashed. It didn't transfer my playlists but at least it saved all my music. Well done.

Thank you. Such a straigthforward video and it still works with Win 10 in 2023!!!
Thank you so much Cody!!! I've been trying to do this for over 10 years. It was all music from my rehearsal dinner in 2007!
I found an old 5th Gen Ipod Shuffle in a pair of jeans I washed. Realized I had over 8 years of music and memories stored on the thing, and freaked. Long story short I managed to save the music, followed everything on this video and it worked perfectly. Thanks! So much easier than anything else I've tried. You're the best!!

Cody, Thanks for the video! This was so simple, but before watching your video.... I just could not get the songs to move over. THANKS AGAIN! Tim
Thank you so much! I spent so much time trying to figure it out and you saved the day!
this was the easiest way I found no music to have to listen to no guessing just follow it along and pause were you need to THANKS
YOU ARE A GENIUS!! It worked and I watched different videos and none of them worked. I love you!!!!!!!!!!
So many times so much online is a dead end. This was not and worked perfectly on win 10. Thank you!

CODY: YOU DA MAN!!! Somehow when syncing a new Iphone on my pc, I lost the Itunes Libary. You saved my ass, thanks.
thank you very much! 2016 still works for the latest itunes, only few songs still retained the coded name format after transferring, and shown on the itunes song list, a little tedious to change the name one by one but not too much of an inconvenience
