I always take a rubber band with me for my evening walk and do this shoulder mobility exercise that you did with the rubber band. After just 5 days, my shoulder problems were significantly reduced. greetings from germany 😊
Thanks for sharing what you went through. It gives validity to know you understand the struggle of the pain and not just jumping into push-ups or hanging.
Absolutely! Your shoulders are the most mobile joints you have! Far too many exercises are just partial ranges of motion, shoulders need big stuff! Just start off super light! It’s called the dumbbell shoulder rotation 💪🏼
Thanks for this. Dealing with shoulder/back/bicep stuff at the moment. Looking forward to healing and getting strong again. Thanks for the message of hope - if you could heal, I can too. ❤
I think this is exactly my issue. I had a partially torn supraspinatus, it was agony. Tried loads of exercises but nothing worked. Only thing that actually helped was injections. I still get a twinge if I raise my arm overhead and my shoulder is so weak now I struggle to press 6kgs overhead. Need to sort out my back posture so that the rotator cuff exercises have a chance of actually working. Up to now they simply have not worked and now I know why. Tom you are actually the 1st person I've seen who has said to sort out upper back and shoulder posture before trying to fix a rotator cuff issue, no-one else has told me to do this, they just give you the usual exercises to do. I can just about do them but I feel the pain of impingement every time so obviously something isn't right. If you have poor upper back posture, rounded shoulders etc there simply isn't enough room in the shoulder joint to allow those movements to work without getting pinching. I guess I have to open up the joint to create room before I try to fix the supraspinatus issue, does that sound about right? It's been 8 years btw since I damaged that supraspinatus tendon, it's taken ages to heal to this level but it's definitely not fixed properly yet
Absolutely yes, it’s frightening how often I meet people in your position, get yourself stuck into upper back rotations and pulling exercises daily and then full range joint stuff and band work and you’ll be shocked at how much improvement you can make in a few months! And it will actually stick too!
So funny how are body’s can be so different, but the same. I had the exact same deal! brutally trying to fix my shoulder when in reality it was everything around it!!😅
Hey, I love your videos! The way you described the progression in this video was very neat, but there is one thing i am unsure about. I have been experiencing similar limitations, and I was wondering, how do you know when your upper back is ready to move on to the shoulder band exercises?
I am having a very similar problem and don’t know where to start. I don’t think I am able to do any of these two exercises you show here so what would be another way to work on this?
Do you have any videos or programs to fix the tight upper back causing shoulder issues? I’m pretty sure poor thoracic mobility is at the root of my shoulder issues.
The Simplistic Mobility Method is always the best one to start with in our programmes, after 8 weeks then I would add the stability builder workouts and that will cover everything from this whole channel really with all the thinking done for you 😄💪🏼
It has the most important stuff that needs addressed first yes, anything else done before SMM can potentially be a waste of time as your upper back and shoulders literally cannot get into good positions 💪🏼
@@TomMorrison my shoulders have been getting heaps better over the past year of just working light weights. But to be honest, it’s sleeping that screws them up for me. I wake up and I’ve shifted onto my side and the shoulder has stayed overnight in an impinged position. It takes at least a week after that to recover. It’s sucks!!!
I have a Lotta. Good luck with your exercises. You need to try the one where you lay on your back and when you stretch your arms and move them around in different directions, you find out where the pool is in your shoulder or if it’s in some of your bicep.
Your outfit makes me smile. Digging the drip sir
Thankyou 😎 it’s surprisingly comfy!!
A colorful suit when I poop, encourages me to get up and moop…or move your pick.
I'm confused. Damn this the first time i seen you so serious yet your outift didn't match the mood here 😂
😂😂😂 I was thinking that too! Came up with the serious talk idea on the day I was filming a funny one and just didn’t change 🤣
@@TomMorrison should stick with that theme from now on. Serious vids must include funny outfits without ever mentioning why your wearing them 😂

Yes some “simple” exercises are way too much sometimes, have to respect how the joint wants to move first off!
Wow... wait
That dumbbell move, is it healthy for the shoulders?! I've never seen it before!

always makes sense … which jars so with the doofus clothes and antics….. anyway, great advice

So many suggestions, it's hard to know where to start. Guess it depends on the situation/ individual.
If you’re really in doubt and not sure, in person guidance is always best with a good physio

When you can comfortably do this one you’re pretty much good to go for everything 💪🏼

@@TomMorrison Thank you!
The couse of shoulder impingement is compresson of m. Supraspinatus
Can be, but a lot of the symptoms can just come from limitation in the upper back or not enough regular full joint movement
I am having a very similar problem and don’t know where to start. I don’t think I am able to do any of these two exercises you show here so what would be another way to work on this?
Start fully with your upper back and pulling, our banded push pull exercise would be ideal to start with
Your ‘shorts’ are always excellent. Thank you!

What you do for upper back? :)
This is the best thing to start with!

Does it have to be a band? Can I do a broom stick over the head and then back. Or does that force it too much?
I like a mix of both, stick checks/improves range, band is nice for activation
