Perfect! I have never been able to get caricature right and they just end up looking like space aliens on a bender. Followed your instructions. It's 100% better. Still looks like an alien but it's not humanoid!
Hi, you can actually do this with pretty much any modern golf ball. The old ones were filled with elastics but all the new ones have this plastic. The different brands have different colours, the one not carved in the thumb nail was a Callaway.
I cut them on a lathe, I can cut a dozen ball in about five minutes.. and they are cut much cleaner cut than with a hack saw. I did cut a few with a hack saw before I figured out how to cut them with the lathe.
Thats a great idea! I am sure cutting them on the lathe works really well. I unfortunately do not have a lathe but maybe one day. I did a weekend workshop last year...pre-COVID...to try my hand at turning and it was fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Michael, no I have never tried a layered ball...usually a surprise as I open them but I have never cracked one open that had layers. Do you know if there is a specific brand that I could try?
@@countrycarving9744 Most of the newer and more expensive ball are. Looking at the back of the box will tell you. Looking forward to seeing more videos. Thanks
I just got into golf ball carving. Really carves nice. Looks like on some of your faces you have removed more than half of the covering. Like some of your ideas. Thanks.
Thanks! You never know...practice makes perfect. Just need to start with something simple. The first golf ball carving I ever did was a very simple flower.
Unfortunately not yet! I have not been able to complete the entire video. Should be coming out shortly...hoping to have it done in the next two weeks. Stay tuned!!
Haha you might be surprised! You should give it a try. Maybe start with a basswood or cottonwood bark carving though...the golf balls can be a bit small for a first attempt.
Cool idea thanks for sharing
fantastic! can't wait to try my own. thanks for the tips :)
Your very welcome, glad you are going to give it a try! Thanks for tuning in!!

Lol Fantastic! Appreciate you letting me know...I am glad it helped! Happy Carving!
What type of golf ball is this, I need to open a golf ball and take out some of the insides to insert something. Would this be the best option?

What is the material? Strange as I cut them as a kid and it was lots of elastic bands
Great video
Thanks Richard!

Great video. Did you ever try carving a 2 or 3 layer ball? It will give you cooler colors

@@countrycarving9744 Ok no worries..im sitting here with knife and golf ball in hand ready to go 😁🏒
Cool, unfortunately this is something that requires artistic talent once you have the golf ball open . I can't draw so I sure couldn't carve.
